We stayed at the hotel for 1 night on our way back to Madrid. The impression is that it's used to be an amazing hotel - well equipped rooms, cozy patios, located by the church of a small but atttactive town.

The only thing I disliked is the management. It was a challange to put a manager off the TV show he had watched when we moved in and tried to check in.

But anyway, If you need to make an overnight stop at a reasonably price, this hotel is still worth staying at.

Stayed here for one night at the beginning of May. Our fellow travellers had stayed here a couple of years ago and thought it very good at that time. There was one other family here only.

Our room was freezing cold - when we flagged this up at reception a gentleman was summoned, presumaly the manager and our host, and he said that the boiler had broken down and that he was expecting an engineer to visit and fix it that evening. Anybody's boiler can break down, but I suspect that was not the truth, but rather that the heating had been turned off for the season. The building had once been beautiful, but was showing signs of becoming run down. There was a bad smell everywhere, of very stale cheap scent from cleaning products or air freshener or something.

When we went down to dinner our host showed us to our table - and then switched on a television set in the same room to enjoy the football match which took most of his attention. I ordered a drink. He rummaged through the various bottles on the backfitting of the bar, having to stand on something before he could locate the appropriate bottle which contained dregs only. I said I would have something else but he insisted on serving me the part measure - which he did not charge us for. By this point I had lost all confidence in the place and was wondering under what conditions our meals had been prepared. Our meal was pretty horrible, roast leg of lamb served on stone cold plates. We retired to bed. The grey bedding was cold and felt damp. I went to bed wearing my clothes, a fleece and socks and feeling very queasy from the awful smell pervading the place.

Next morning we were still freezing but my husband managed to rig up some sort of support for the hairdryer, with which we heated the bathroom. We tried to run a bath, There was banging and vibrating from the plumbing, but no hot water to the bath or shower so a minimal wash was undertaken. By now I was noticing that the bath was not very clean, that the royal blue tiles had a thick layer of grime on them and that there was an utterly disgusting loo brush on display. The only positive thing about this shambolic establishment was that it was so awful, it was hilarious!!

Breakfast was a dismal selection of the cheapest of products.

This was the most uncomfortable and bad smelling hotel I have ever experienced. Our host kindly agreed to reduce our bills by ten euros to make up for the lack of heating. He was very lucky that I am unable to speak Spanish and did not want to embarrass our fellow travellers who had recommended the place.

We stayed at the hotel in August 2010 on a trip from Spain to Portugal as a stop over. I was expecting a lovely, authentic hotel and I was not atall disappointed.
The building is beautiful, the rooms (we were 3 adults and 3 children) , the pool and restaurant area (fountain, mosaics etc) were absolutely lovely
Well worth a visit. We were sorry not to stay longer. Lovely poolside dinner, large breakfast. We had a lovely stroll through the small town in the evening.
A warm recommendation for anyone passing through... a pretty, romantic hotel!!

We decided to stop over at Santa Cruz de Mudela for a night to break the car trip from Madrid to Cordoba via Toledo. This was a good decision for a number of reasons. After leaving Madrid later than expected and sightseeing on the way, we were glad to stop at the hotel at 6pm rather than pushing on for another two hours to Cordoba. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. We were assigned a large corner room with doors onto two quiet streets and a view of the surrounding roof tops on to the countryside. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom, which was bigger than some hotel rooms, was spotlessly clean and well stocked with toiletries. After a walk around the town, we came back to find the hotel was filling up with guests and the Bodega open. The local wine, a full bodied red, was wonderful and the waiter provided a couple of dips and olives.
The dining room menu was simple but the food well cooked, nicely presented and reasonably priced. My stay in hotel was a truly memorable experience - the real essence of Spain.

Found this hotel on the www.drive-alive.com website and made booking (through Active Hotels) for an overnight stop enroute from Madrid Airport to Alfaix, Almeria. I was worried because there was no mention on extra beds for 2 grandchildren and phoned Active Hotels who checked with the hotel and came back immediately with reply that these would be supplied at no extra charge. This beautiful and charming hotel is in a small town just off the motorway and well worth the detour. It is typically Spanish, no English is spoken but the staff are charming. There is a beautiful pool in the courtyard, right next to the cathedral. The pool was really welcome after a hot drive. The down side was that dinner was not served until 9 pm which was a bit late for the children, but it was most enjoyable and we ate beside the pool. The rooms were charming, bathrooms excellent and extra beds substantial and comfortable as were the double beds. The air con was noisy, but the location was very quiet. Breakfast was buffet style with waitress service for coffee. We loved this hotel and will stay there again if we are ever that way again. The photos on the website are a true reflection of what it is like.

The price was really low. the staff was helpful. Interior was magnificent. It was really romantic. The city was sleepy. It was really hard find the way in hotel. (It is next to the church/cathedral). Had a nutritious breakfast.
