“Almost but .....”
Reviewed 12 August 2014 via mobile

On many fronts it is great:
location, interesting design; well appointed rooms with balconies, heated pool area; great golf course and an interesting use of ground floor space which includes a fantastic open terrace area.
However, a few niggling worries:
The room wasn't cleaned till 4 when many want a siesta/rest; the menu for the restaurant is limited and slightly disappointing if you go for the fixed price option-many slightly more expensive and interesting dishes not included. The cafe is short staffed and some of the over-worked staff can not hide the pressure on them. The discount I received as a guest to play the course was not as good as that of my playing partner who "had been given a name!"
I fear that a quality venue which already is very expensive is a little too profit driven and lacks the class that it believes it exudes. However, a golfer will love the course!

If you like to play golf and want to be in the middle of nowhere this might be for you! Very rude unhelpful employees on the desk. So noisy in the room. Walls are paper thin. kids running up and down the halls yelling day and night. Very So So food. It had a sea view but the beach is on the far side of the sand dunes..A healthy walk for older people. The one great thing to be said was that the bartender made the best Sangria's in Spain. For the price the condition of the hotel was dismal. The parking for the cars is down a steep hill. There was nothing pleasurable about this stay. We had planned to stay 2 night but left after one and went on into Valencia.

Perfect combination of a nice hotel with a top golf course (home of many championships). Paradors are known for their views and this is definitely one of them. I was surprised how many little flies there were (rice fields), but apparently they are not supposed to kill them. They don't bite, there were just so many of them.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a terrace view on a white wall, others on the golf course and/or the ocean. You may...

This is a great overnight stay for travelers heading along the coast who golf or use spas.

Fine golf course in surprisingly good shape with attentive and helpful staff. 53€ I think, to play such a course for Parador guests.

My wife headed for the spa and was impressed with the standard.

Ate dinner in the dining room; might have been the best of the dozen or so Paradors we've stayed in.

On the downside. Awful signage to the place. It's not in El Saler and the only sign was when you'd traipsed down a country road of last resort.

First impressions are poor too. I get the 'trying to fit in with nature' look, but sadly it's parsed into an excuse for the grounds to be scruffy to the point of unkempt.

Beyond that though, well worth a one night stay on a coastal journey.

Thank you for your comments, that say a lot about ours services, nevertheless it´s a great opinion.
I want to thank you specially for the comments about the restaurant.

Concerning the downside, the Parador is placed in the middle of a natural park, “Albufera park”, and as a result of that, we have to stand some disadvantages, for example, we can´t put as many signals as we would like to get on the road to the Parador. Anyway, last week we have finally achieved four signals more that will let our clients arrive to the hotel easier.

About ours gardens, the vegetation you can found at the Parador and all around it, is from the Albufera park, in order to protect it, we are not allowed to change anything. We agree that one of our missions is keep the Albufera as it was always. It´s true that the appearance of ours gardens and surroundings look not much well at this season, but we are suffering the most driest year in Valencia for 150 years, and that don't help us so much.

Thanks very much indeed for your comprehension.

This Parador is not only a good hotel but has an excellent golf course attached. Although it's a championship course, handicap golfers can enjoy it without too much trouble. If you telephone before arriving, the professional will find you a partner and your wife can enjoy the benefits of the health spa. The wine list is excellent too, and you will find Spanish wines here that you will not find elsewhere.

Dear client:

I thank you your comments about our resort. About the golf course, the spa, and the wines. Valencia got a lot of good wines, and we try to offer a good representation of all the spanish wine regions.
Thanks indeed.

Never even heard of the concept until we were talking over lunch in Arles, France and asked the couple at the next table about traveling and locating lodging in Spain. They told us about the paradors scattered across Spain and gave me the website. I was able to use the map with the parador locations spotted and chose two that were along our route. We thought we would be staying in an old castle or historical building, but instead this Paradores is a long, lean modern hotel nestled into the sane dunes next to the sea in a national park. The impression upon entering the large lobby is of light and space and relaxation. Our room is very nice. The air conditioning worked perfectly. The bathroom looks like a picture in a magazine. It is wonderful! Breakfast this morning was quite an experience. There was a large urn of 'all you can drink' freshly squeezed orange juice. You won't find that anywhere else! The chocolate was incredible - like drinking a melted candy bar.
The rating of four stars instead of five is based on the following: no explanation or offer of spa services upon check-in. There is a marvelous spa and it would have been nice to know about it yesterday. Also, the golf shop personnel should have told us there is no beverage or snack cart and no bathroom facilities on the course. Thank goodness I had thrown a small water bottle into my bag or we would have had nothing. Other players accustomed to the course carried their own water and snacks. After the first 9 we stopped and bought water in bottles, but we were walking and the sun was bright and no one should be allowed to go out without being told there was no water on the course.
The staff is friendly and accommodating. The pool as well as everything else is sparkling clean. I would definitely stay here again, but if I played golf I would carry water and snacks. Oh yes, they charged three euros for a small bag of tees! That was a first! Every golf course has tees at no charge!!
All in all, still an excellent stopover on our driving trip across Spain. ( directions are not good. The parador El Saler is NOT in Saler. One has to drive past the roundabout exit for Saler and continue toward the next town to get here. The location is not on google maps and that made it very difficult to find.

On arrival you view a stunning modern building which gets even better when arriving in the reception area. You can imagine the Dr No or Goldfinger movies being shot here against the spartan but stylish 1960 european architecture. Yes, the place has, as a result, a somewhat modern museum atmosphere as the reception area's and other halls and corridors are huge and long. Service is OK but remember this is still a 100% state owned parador so staff (with effective lifelong employment contracts) possibly do not feel the need to make the extra effort. The rooms are very nice with great views either over the golf course or (at extra cost) with sea view. The golf course itself (the european tour played here for the Spanish Open spring 2013) is very nice but plays long so expect to be challenged. All in all certainly worth your while to visit this place!
