“A bad turn led us to an amazingly wonderful hotel experience!”
Reviewed 30 June 2009

After hours of being lost in the middle of the countryside, we arrive at this beautifully landscaped hotel Cortijo Soto Real!
We stayed in a gorgeous suite they call their honeymoon suite. It was not our honey moon ,but would still recommend this room to any couple. You felt like you were in your own private villa with a terrace that looked out over the mountains, orange groves, and the pool. A large, all white bathroom with white marble tub and plenty of light. At night, sit on the terrace with a bottle of red wine, and a platter of ham and cheese and gaze up at the stars. You won't want to leave this room! Very peaceful and relaxing. Over all the food was good. I highly recommend trying their tapas; They are excellent and a good bottle of red wine is a bargain. Definately try any of their salads to start; very tasty. As with any hotel, the food can get expensive. There are a few restaurants ,close by car, that are good. Seville and Jerez de la frontera are both a short distance away. You do need a car and GPS is a must! The service was excellent and the staff was pleasant. The management was always around to make sure everything was fine and that your needs were being met without invading your privacy. This hotel has a laid back demeanor, yet the staff still very professional. Best for those who enjoy the countryside and just want to relax.
We got our hotel package through luxury links. It included a car rental and some excursions which was a good deal if your paying with dollars. It did not include GPS! Warning: Do not try to drive to this property with out GPS and do not drive at night or you may not arrive! We had a very bad experience trying to get to the hotel from Malaga airport. After a 7 hour flight and 1 hour line for a car rental, we end up getting lost for 4 hours! Dark outside in the middle of no where, I frantically called the hotel. The manager told us to stay where we were and he came and got us. It was around 11:00 at night. I never would have expected at that hour for the hotel manager to go out looking for us. This was clearly an act of kindness and understanding of what we were going through. Upon arrival at the hotel, they check us in quickly and took us to our suite. There was a bottle of red wine and platter of cheeses and ham and breads waiting for us. As tired as we were, we did not want to sleep ,as we were enraptured by the beauty of our surroundings! This hotel was worth the trouble to get to!
-Thanks, LS.

We booked a 4-night stay at Hotel Cortijo Soto Real in March 2008. We picked up a rental car at Seville airport and driving out to the hotel was straightforward. The hotel itself is not ‘attached’ to any town or city – it sits on a private estate in the ‘middle of nowhere’ – which might be an added benefit but without a car it was hard to imagine what we would have done. The weather was superb and we spent our time driving around the Andalusian countryside and towns. For us this was a pleasant short break that was made by good weather. The hotel itself was not the highlight of the trip.

There was nothing fundamentally wrong with the resort. It is fairly new and the architecture tries a bit too hard to be ‘rustic’. Our ‘double luxury room’ was on the ground floor with an external terrace and pleasant views across open countryside. It was also very quiet and this gave the whole place a slightly eerie atmosphere as thought we were ‘trespassing’. The staff were helpful up to a point and most spoke English. We had a few minor gripes – the hotel refused to supply us with an iron and ironing board instead insisting we use the in-house laundry service that was of course expensive. Likewise, the restaurant and the pool bar (when open) were not good value for money.

The food was fine, nothing memorable, but the prices high. The breakfast buffet was very limited with nothing to commend it. We also went out for a ‘carriage ride’ and picnic but the carriage was modern without much character and the picnic dreadful: no local specialties/dishes – just BLT sandwiches.

This is an OK, comfortable hotel but for us we felt it could have been a whole lot better. More authenticity in the food could be a good starting point.

Cortijo is set in a very peacful location. The hotel is wonderful and being at Cortijo you'd expect full relaxation. The staff are friendly and the chef is excellent. The location is excellent if you fancy visiting Seville or Cadiz but prefer staying in a more peaceful location away from the noises of the bigger cities. In the hotel you can also enjoy riding a horse in the beautiful planes of Andaluzia or perhaps you'd prefer spending the time in their small but perfectly formed spa.
Overall, this is probably one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in on holiday. But perhaps the only inconvenience is that you'd have to be prepared to hire a car during your stay.

It used to be good once, but it is amazing how much the standards have slipped. The staff are unprofessional and dishonest and promise things that couldn't possibly deliver. Terrible experience. Would never visit again and wouldn't recommend it.

We recently stayed at this Hotel and absolutely loved the experience. The staff were wonderful, attentive and couldn't do more for us. We had a car included in the package we booked, which we picked up ourselves in Seville and dropped off seven days later, all without a hitch! The hotel is in a secluded area but not far from many beautiful white villages, the coast or from Seville. As a tourist, who cares if you have to drive a little ways, after all we came to see the countryside. The hotel itself is so beautiful and luxurious, the horse riding was spectacular and my husband, who doesn't ride, went out for two tours of the farm with the farm manager, who is dedicated to returning much of the three thousand acres to its natural state. The conceirge service was a treat, we would just ask to have a tour arranged and they did everything for us. A three hour guided walking tour in Seville was one of the highlights for us. The staff in the dining rooms and sitting rooms were warm and friendly and couldn't have done more to make us comfortable. It was so much fun joking around with them and talking with them, we really felt we were leaving new friends behind when we left. After two days they up-graded us to a four room suite and we truly felt we had entered the Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous!!!! We would again like to thank everyone involved with Soto Real for a truly wonderful holdiay. We are back in Canada and remember you all very fondly.

Directions to the Hotel were limited and the Hotel signage, poor and overgrown by foliage. It is a grand Estate, up a gated driveway. The area is full of wild life, especially birds.

We checked into hotel by Jimmy. He gave us very little attention because he was speaking on his mobile phone most of the time.
As we had bought a package for four nights in a superior room with kitchen we expected to be shown to it but originally he put us in a much smaller one with no kitchen.
He never explained where things were or how they worked and there was no DVD or SKY available as promised.
We went to lunch in the swimming pool bar area. It was great but very expensive. The horse and carriage ride was excellent.
The only time the staff spoke to us they were trying to sell us all their expensive services-like horse riding, quad biking etc.
There was car hire included in the package for five days which was whipped away from us on arrival. We had planned to go to Jerez to see the Spanish Horse Show there the following day but when we got the car back it had been cleared out, with our new maps missing(that we had bought in U.K and in Seville City). Our car was not dirty as we had only come from the Airport to the Hotel, no one owned up to removing them so Jimmy gave us another touristy map which was totally useless because it was out of proportions and got us terribly lost all day.
We had one dinner and a picnic lunch included which were very dissapointing. The dinner included in the package was restricted to two choices which clearly ostracized us in the Restaurant because everyone else had the a la' carte menus. The next evening we tried the proper menu and a main course(plate of 10 clams with no veg, salad or garnish)cost 33 euros, excluding the service charge - and waiter PJ, made it very clear that Luxury Linc packages were not welcome here!
On the last evening we met a very nice Canadian couple who were also on the L.L package. They confirmed our feelings that the accommodation was good but the service poor, staff were thin on the ground and the chef needed changing.
The bar was not open during the day except for lunch or for aperitif drinks before dinner(unless you call for drinks on room service). The Hotel are trying to sell it as 'Five star' but due to lack of staff, restaurant prices and choices of cuisine and no day bar, they are not even four star!

The hotel is very pleasant and it is low build, spacious and our room was very comfortable and what I expect for 5 star. Location wise it is truly in the middle of nowhere and once at the hotel you are pretty much stuck unless you drive an hour up to Sevilla or down to Puerto Santa Maria etc.,

We were told in advance we could not book a shoot and quads. The two things my husband wanted to do. No reason was given.

The food is variable in standard and sized portions. Paella ordered 24 hours in advance consisted of rice with a few prawns on top. We did complain and they did not charge for it. At breakfast the ham was not edible, crossaints were burned and the toast was only done on one side for room service breakfast- irritating but did not complain by this stage accepted that there's not enough staff and chefs. How difficult is it to make toast?

The hotel has something special but you need the good service and food as well. The pool area is very pleasant.
