“ideal base to explore milano and surroundings”
Reviewed 9 September 2012

We spent a week at the beginning of September and considered it a great choice. Cusago is a little village near the western "tangentiale" motorway, but very quiet and surrounded by fields. Thus you can quickly enter the motorway system to explore tha many pleasant little towns around Milano. And it also takes just 10 minutes drive (not 3 min. as on the website) to the park and ride of Besceglie, the first (or last) stop of the M1 metro line. You can leave your car there for just EUR 2.10 for the day and take the metro, which has stops at the castello and the duomo.

The hotel itself is nice and pleasant, the rooms as well as the public spaces. There are tables and chairs under an overhanging roof, to spend the late afternoon in the shadow or sheltered from rain with an Aperol or some other drink. the staff is very friendly and the manager (or owner?), a very nice lady, speaks perfect English.

In the junior suite the shower is more form than function, as it is a huge bowl on top of a pedestal and it is rather tricky to enter and leave from a wet bowl-shape about half a metre high without much to hold on. Try to book another room.

Breakfast is the only (relatively) weak point. There is no breakfast-tradition in Italy and they certainly feed their guests, but the choice is rather limited. There was one sort each of cooked ham, cheese, cream cheese, hard broiled eggs, plain yoghurt, some fruit (three kinds of berries, the next day just grapes), cereals, apple and orange juice, jam, white bread, croissants and cakes and cookies. They will prepare scambled eggs on demand. Thus you will find something for every "course" but there is not much further choice.

The restaurant is very good but we had dinner most of the time at the osteria della piazza, ten minutes walk from the hotel at the village square, right across the (delapidated) castle. The staff there is also very friendly and they prepare excellent and typical regional food.

There is sufficient parking space within the enclosed compund. There is also a spa which was frequented by other guests but we did not find the time to try it. There is no pool.

Got a room on the first floor, in a corner of the building. My room was a large, rectangular one. Through the entrance door, it is possible to see the whole room (hopefully, there are curtains to hide). The bed is behind a wooden panel. No real window, just a small view down on the garden through a moucharaby made of brick, in front of the bed. There again, curtains permit to hide the room to external viewers. The bathroom feature a bathtub, but no shower. It is not possible to lock the door between the bedroom and the bathroom (toilets are in the bathroom). A door exists between the two rooms; a very heavy door, made of metal, but you cannot lock it. Air conditioning works fine, although the air stream seems to be channeled to the bathroom... The restaurant is of good quality, prices are not cheap but many hotels in the same category are more expensive. Great wine list. The service may be slow sometimes. It is possible to park your car for free in the parking lot of the hotel. The internet connection is ok. Haven't tested the spa. Although I was a bit surprised by the strange room design; it turns out to be fine in practice. I would recommend this hotel for people who would like to avoid Milan downtown but want to remain close enough for trips there during their stay. An absolute must if you have a car and don't have to use it at peak hours.

Room Tip: Don't remember the number of the room and might be mistaken, but it seems that rooms in corners...

Stayed here for 4 nights while doing business in and around the Milano area. A beautiful hotel in a restored old mill. Rooms are huge by European standards and have a great, modern and clean design. The property is beautiful and out in the country. A short (10 minute, 20-30 Euro) cab ride to the Metro station and then 15 minutes to the center of Milano. A great country road ride alongside to go running or use the bikes provided by the hotel. I would definitely stay here if avoiding the rush of the center of MIlano is desired.
