“Give it a miss!”

Punta Negra
We've been struggling for some time to find a good reasonably priced hotel in this area of South West Mallorca and this ain't it!
We stayed here before it became part of the H10 group and it has definitely improved, but not enough to warrant a third stay.
The rooms have been improved from the last time we stayed and are reasonable, at least they are of this century! But the television only offered BBC1 - no sky, so that could be improved, also there was no tea making facility in the room, just a small coffee machine with even smaller cups!
The wifi sucks! it was free for the first 2 devices! (Why do hotels limit the wifi like this it makes no sense and then to password protect it with obscure computer generated passwords is just a pain, it should be free and total access!) Anyway it didn't matter because the quality of the connection was really poor. It took ages to download the simplest of information and was so frustrating it may as well have been restricted to the flippin reception desk! But at least the room was clean and the electrics all worked. Although (and I know it's only 4 star) but the bathroom towels were only changed once per day.
Where this hotel really scores is its location, it is only a 5 Euro's taxi to Porta Portals marina and 15 minutes from Palma. But the location just isn't enough to swing it, I doubt we would go back.
The rest of the hotel is quite dated and needs major work, just calling it 'boutique' isn't enough to justify the crappy pool area that has so many large trees you need a sun bed on wheels to try to catch the sun. There must be a preservation order on the trees otherwise it just doesn't make sense to screen the hotel from the sun or the guests from the view. On our last morning there we managed to put 2 sun beds in a gap where the sun actually got though (although if we had stayed we would have had to move to somewhere else as the trees only offered a limited time frame for this spot!) anyway that many pine needles fell onto us from trees above, i could have wove a basket! and we spent the whole time picking bits of tree off us.
This is a smallish hotel spread over quite a wide area, (there are 2 outdoor pools) access to the sun is as bad at both! But if you have a room in the grounds and not part of the main block and it rains you are going to get soaked before you get to reception! Plus points are it has a nice small beach and...I can't think of anything else.
By the way the staff are useless. It's probably not their fault, but they don't seem to have been trained to engage with their guests. You don't get served tea for breakfast, you don't get pool service, it was a nightmare getting them to get a taxi, they never say anything other than hola! on the way in or out. They need some work!
Strangely it's the only hotel I've been to that didn't sell water in plastic bottles for around the pool, I asked and was told they only had nice child friendly glass bottles!
Anyway the baseline is I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.
If you just want a base or bed the Marina Portals is cheaper and closer to the port, (although their pool area is overlooked by the crappiest set of apartments you've ever seen,) but at least it's cheap! Or if you want quality there is the Hospice Maricel which is very 5 Star but expensive! (And if you get a room on the other side of the road - which you invariably will, you have to access the pool and reception via an underpass), you get wet getting back to reception in the rain and you can't use the room balconies due to the traffic noise! But it is still a nice hotel - but overpriced. We have even stayed at the Mardaval (which is right next door to the Punta Negra) when it opened which is the absolute best in the area but is a crazy price! it was expensive when we stayed but now it's ridiculous. However, as it is just next door to the Punta Negra, it shows the potential of this hotel, what it needs is major investment, (actually it needs pulling down and just making use of the land and location), the least it needs is a major update of all the public areas, the owners are missing a trick here, they could improve it and charge more to stay, whereas at the moment it is actually overpriced for what they offer. Don't waste your time booking here, there has to be somewhere better for the money... But I'm still looking!
Just as a final note, we hired a car from Gold Star at the airport, don't do it! When we arrived every car hire desk was empty of customers but Gold Star had a massive queue!! We queued an hour to get to the desk, (there was the same situation at their desk when we returned to the airport) so it may be slightly cheaper than the reset but its not worth the hassle, book with one of the others and save yourself a major wait.

The staff in this Hotel need customer service training. We were checked in by a very helpful receptionist. He was charming and helpful. It's a pity his colleagues don't behave like him. On one occasion I asked to see one of the cottages which have beautiful views overlooking the bay only to be told in a very abrupt manner to come back later as they were very busy. I didn't bother going back....... We had a beautiful refurbished superior double duplex room and was thinking of booking one of these cottages if they were decorated as lovely for a return trip. The service by the pool was also disappointing. The waiter brought over the starter and main course at the same time and when I asked him why, he told me , again in an abrupt tone that I should have told him that I didn't want the starter and main course at the same time! He was so rude that his colleague came over to apologise for his manner. When one is spending money eating and staying as a Hotel guest I don't expect this behaviour. We will not be returning and would not recommend this Hotel!

We arrived at the hotel shortly after 10pm and after checking in was told that the restaurant was closed and that no food was available after 10pm, not even room service. I asked if it would be possible to have something, even a bread roll, as we hadn't eaten since breakfast! We were offered nothing at all as a solution.
Other small issues were that there was no hair conditioner, the WIFI didn't work very well and 2 out of 3 of the machines in the gym didn't work.
On a positive note, the superior room we had booked was very pleasant, had a decent view, the beds were very comfortable and the hotel was situated in a beautiful spot. I would return to this hotel regardless of the negatives mentioned above but if these issues were corrected it would make the experience rather excellent.

Room Tip: It's worth the extra money booking a superior room, which my travel agent recommended as they ha...

The hotel is in a great location with exclusive access to two pools and two beach coves; it is also pleasant to walk out of the secure gate to other small coves and pontoons for swimming in the sea and snorkelling as well as a popular beach bar of the same name and the marina PuertaPortals where you can relax and enjoy a drink or variety of meals at the various bars and restaurants there watching the wide range of boats coming and going. The restaurant Wellies was our favourite - great food and very friendly atmosphere and service. The hotel offers a wonderful evening meal that was competively priced to other high quality restaurants - the inbetween free courses were a surprise and delight and the restaurant staff were really friendly. The reception staff were always friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and the room was always cleaned immaculately and daily also by friendly staff who welcomed us each day with a "hola"! The breakfast was excellent regarding choice, service and cleanliness - the chef was always happy to cook fried eggs to individual order and bring them to your table - always with a smile and the panoramic views from the breakfast restaurant were an added bonus. If you missed early breakfast or preferred to eat al fresco you could always catch a later one outside by the pool. What we liked about the hotel was that you were left to your own peace and quiet but if you needed anything staff were only too happy to help. There is not much available for entertainment especially for children, compared to the H10 hotel we used to use in Lanzarote when our children were with us but this did not bother us as we like to go out in the evenings for a walk and during the day just relax and swim/snorkell. Peter offers the opportunity to sample diving if you wish and he is extremely knowledgeable, accommodating and friendly but not pushy. The hotel also provided free and comfortable sun loungers and pool towels (changed daily) so no need to pack your own. We sampled two rooms in the main and annex accommodation - both of which were spacious, extremely well furnished and equipped with welcome air conditioning for the August heat. Access to Palma Nova and Palma was easy with regular buses 104 and 106 at the end of the access road to the hotel - price 4-5 euros for two singles, as well as easy access to taxis. You need to be aware though that the last bus from Palma back to the hotel is 2145, so check when you plan an evening trip there - taxi fare would be around 20 euros. Taxi fare from the airport was around 35 euros. All in all a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday and I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Request pool view, sea view or quiet zone when booking room - all are choices that are available as...

I write further to my last review and the manager response. I still stand by my summary of the hotel with one qualification, because it was written on the eve before check out. As we headed for breakfast before an early departure we were told that the terrace was not open and to go to the breakfast room upstairs. Breakfast room upstairs???? Too bad that the reception staff did not tell us about it when we arrived. For the duration of our visit we therefore dined from the spartan selection offered in the terrace bar. In fairness the breakfast buffet in the main room is very good - but we still had to make our own coffee!!!!! An investment in some signage and staff training might improve the situation.

Dear Guest,

I am sorry if you did not notice we have two breakfast rooms. To avoid this matter, during all the breakfast service time downstairs, we have a 50 inches TV with this information on it. I apologize if this was not enough information.
I will keep thinking about something else to make it even more clear.

Best regards ,

This hotel is in a great location but unfortunately it is group owned with no attention to detail and all eye on profit - instead of customer experience. You can stay in other hotels in the area at a fraction of the price for the same experience/ service. It is generally below standard for the price charged. Breakfast is a good example - you even have to go and make your own coffee from the Nespresso machine!! There is no manager presence and it needs to be sharpened up - for the customer - not the shareholders!!!

Room Tip: This is not British 4 star standard. However, the rooms are functional and served our purpose. We we...

Dear Madell,

Thanks for taking your time to post a review about the hotel. I just wanted to say that we do serve coffee at the table and the Nespresso Machine is an extra service we offer for those who prefer Nespresso. I am sorry if that was not clear for you. It is a pity as, checking many other reviews, breakfast is one of our highlights.

Best regards

The hotel is in a lovely area of Mallorca with splendid views. It is rather rambling and we ( a mixed family party, 13 to 49 in ages) all had to find our way around with little help. The 2 pools are pleasant but with not enough sun beds for everyone. Unfortunately, even at 8.30am the main pools sun beds were all un occupied but covered in towels, consequently we had to either sit in the shaded grass and get bitten by ants or circle like sharks and pounce on any person we suspected of leaving. All a bit stressful!! The lunch food is basic but very good. Sandwiches and salads. Breakfasts upstairs were amazing. Rooms clean and tidy without being luxurious. Staff were all pleasant and friendly. The hotel could have been so much more but just somehow missed the mark.

Dear Karen J,

Just a few lines to thank you for your comments. It is nice to know that your holiday was OK. I am sorry about the item of the sunbeds. We always try to inform guests that it is not permitted to reserve sunbeds but sometimes it is impossible. I promise I will keep working on that but I must say that we have nearly 1 sun bed for each guest so this is a very rare problem.

In any case I apologize for that and I hope to see you back at H10 Punta Negra soon

Best wishes,
