“Beautiful Perigord!”

My family of three stayed in Beynac for five nights in June. It was wonderful. The location is excellent; we walked to restaurants (La Petit Tonnelle is excellent), a boulangerie, and canoe rentals. It was great canoeing from Carsac right back to our rental in Beynac, and then walking to diner! Also, Martine was awesome; ask her about anything to do in the region!

The view from the rental is amazing. It was stocked with enough kitchen ware to cook in, and plenty of room to relax. I would definitely stay again if we return to the region.

“Spectacular view and a warm welcome”
Reviewed 4 November 2016 for a stay in October 2016

Frederique was an excellent host. She responded immediately to all of our questions before and during our trip and made sure that our arrival was an easy one. Delightful Martine was waiting for us at the arranged meeting point and guided us through the narrow and charming streets of Beynac to our home for two weeks. She was always always available by phone if we needed help. The "Tibalou" is a beautiful apartment in an ancient building overlooking the Dordogne River. The view from all windows is simply spectacular. The location is not accessible by car and we were much more fit by the end of our two weeks, since the way home was always uphill. Luggage with wheels is a must. It is a six minute walk to the bakery, butcher and grocery shops and one of our best meals was at La Petite Tonnelle, two minutes from our front door. Beynac-Cazenac is in the centre of activity in the Dordogne valley. We took a boat excursion, paddled canoes from Vitrac to Beynac and drove up to the castle which dominates the town. Most tourists walked up the steep hill past our front door. Other castles and gardens are not far away and there are markets and excellent restaurants to visit in surrounding towns . The principal sites and caves are all within easy driving distance. The "Tibalou" was comfortable, very clean and very spacious. We cooked many meals in our own kitchen using the wonderful ingredients available locally. The kitchen has a gas cooktop, a grille/microwave and a portable toaster oven - all the equipment we needed. There is also a clothes washer and dishwasher and full size refrigerator/freezer. The absence of traffic outside meant that we slept peacefully with only the calls of ducks on the river and a local owl as our lullaby. We would not hesitate to recommend this location.

“A truly wonderful place to live for a period of time.”

We have often visited Perigord Noir and know it fairly well. Every trip brings something new and magical. On our latest trip we stayed at Tibalou and that was the wonderful surprise. The house is splendid, everything is done to make guests comfortable. Martine is available to take care of any problem and Frederique, who owns it is a super person. They work together with Frederique's husband to make this the finest place we have ever stayed in Perigord. It is really special to "live" in Beynac. The house is specious, slightly up the hill climbing toward the chateau. As a result there are spectacular views of the the Dordogne. There is no parking, but one may get a permit for a reduced price to park in the lot below the town. Carrefour is just up the road so buying food is easy.

“Charming home in medievil village”
Reviewed 9 October 2016 for a stay in September 2016

Maison Tibalou is a very charming home located in Beynac et Cazenac. It is well appointed and has all the things necessary to make your stay comfortable. We especially liked the way the house had been restored to include some of the old natural features of the building. Our evenings were spent on the private garden patio having our wine and dinner while taking in the lovely views of the Dordogne River. It felt very magical!

Martine met us when we first arrived and was extremely helpful explaining all the things we needed to know about Maison Tibalou. We would definitely recommend Maison Tibalou to those wanting to stay in a centrally located area of the very picturesque Dordogne region, and who want to experience the charm of staying in a medieval village in a lovingly restored home. Merci beacoup Frederique.

“Cosy retreat in lovely medieval village”
Reviewed 3 October 2016 for a stay in September 2016

This cottage is clean, cosy and comfortable. Frederique was easy to deal with as she replied to our questions and looked after getting us help with the stovetop right away. That help came in the form of Martine, her agent who lives in Beynac. Despite some language issues we communicated quite well and both she & Frederique were most helpful. They were very solicitous of our well being. The bathroom is small but modern and the bed was very comfortable. This is good for one couple in my opinion. Be aware that the residence is quite a climb up a fairly steep hill, and we learned to carry any goods we bought in stages as one cannot drive to the door. People in the village were lovely and friendly and we have almost no French.

Judith ,
Delighted that you have chosen our house for your stay in Perigord.
Beynac is a medieval village on a rocky promontory and the town is steep but it is also its charm.
The worries to open the gas cylinder was quickly apprehended.
We will keep very good memories of your stay.
Sincerely
Frederique

“Atmosphere, beautiful views but oh, the climb!”

Beynac is a lovely small town set on the hillside and overlooking the Dordogne. We were there for 6 days and found plenty of interesting things to do with a number of castles (don't miss Josephine Baker's), caves, walks and places to relax. Only 20 minutes from Sarlat for serious shopping but there is a small general store in Beynac.

The house is spacious, clean and comfortable, although not modern and has wide views across the town, river and into the countryside. The bed was very comfortable and although small the bathroom was adequate. It is worth noting the patio pictured is at the rear of the property and has no view to enjoy.

The extraordinary Martine took us to the house and although unable to speak English (my French is worse) managed to explain everything necessary. She was very attentive to the few issues we had and was quick to respond. If you need to contact her, go to the Tourist Bureau who will call her and translate for you - thank heavens. The town wasn't too busy and offered some really scenic walks and strolling through the streets and up to the castle is an absolute delight. The town was fairly busy - even in early May - so perhaps summer might be a little bit overcrowded (at least for us) although the nights and mornings were very peaceful.

We loved exploring the area and the town itself and really had only 2 issues which concerned us. Firstly, payment was only via bank transfer - costing an additional AUD 100 and this was not just the Australian bank. Secondly (and very importantly) the parking is mainly at river level and the cobbled street to the house is EXTREMELY steep. Hard work even without suitcases or shopping. If you have any breathing or heart issues, I would suggest somewhere else. All in all the beauty of the surroundings won our hearts
