Catherine gave us clear directions for meeting her, then accompanied us to show us our home for the week. Beynac is a fairy-tale village built on the cliff alongside the Dordogne with an atmospheric castle overlooking it from the top of the hill.
The ancient house was beautifully restored and furnished with everything that we needed, from comfortable seating, to a well equipped kitchen with dishwasher, a washing machine in the bathroom, and very comfortable beds with plenty of spare bedding should the nights turn cold. Catherine had furnished the rooms really tastefully, with attention paid to both comfort and aesthetics.
We ate our meals on the terrace with its breathtaking views of the river and castle-strewn hills beyond. After a day's sightseeing, it was a joy to relax in the pool while watching the boats glide along the river below and the swallows put on their aerobatic displays above.
We even had our own car parking space near to the house - a rare luxury in these medieval towns with narrow, hilly streets.
Because the town is built on a steep hillside, and the house is on three floors, be prepared for walking. This would not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues.
Other than that, I would not hesitate to give this my highest recommendation.
