“Needs lots of TLC”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

The hotel looked ok in the brochure but reality was very different! Oh dear, this is a place that is crying out for a lot of TLC, with investment. We stayed for 3 nights as we took our aging in laws or a tour of the D Day landings.
The location and building acade is very special, however everything about the hotel, service, atmosphere, decor, maintenance, food is all very poor. It could be something very special but currently I would never go back or recommend it.
The location is a little too far north to make it worth the 40 or so mile drive to the eastern beaches although it is close to Omaha.
The breakfasts were simple beyond belief and the coffee....................!!!
It is a shame as the grounds could be made very special and a place that one would want to return to, however until a professional team with some cash take it on, I certainlt wont.

Scenic, peaceful location for our WWII & D-Day Normandy Landing Beaches base. Warmly welcomed by Reception. Stayed in the original building with a breath-taking garden view. Our room was spotlessly clean. Room style was dated with distinctly French 'vintage' décor; good hot water supply for bath; all in keeping with staying in an historic building. It was like a going back in time; the dining room for breakfast (simple continental, no fancy extras) was like a scene from Disney's Beauty & the Beast which amused us and added to the atmosphere of our visit. It helped to know some basic travel/holiday French for this area of Normandy and remember that most shops and garages are closed on Sundays.

Room Tip: A garden-view room in the main building was pleasant but the room style will be more old-fashioned t...

Chateau de Quineville may be one of the most peaceful places on earth, which is a little ironic considering its historical location. The grounds are elegant and bucolic, and you can look out over them from their nice dining room, where the food is terrific (particularly the salmon). I stayed in a newer room which was a little quirky; the bathtub was triangular in shape, with a hand-held showerhead that deposited more water on the floor, I fear, than on its intended target, but nevertheless, the bathroom was modern. Beds were fairly comfortable, and the room was very clean.

If you're looking for a unique, quiet, and historic spot to spend a few days, it would be hard to beat Chateau de Quineville.

Rooms were cold but weren't too bad- hot water and a place to sleep, though you couldn't lock the door from the inside which was a bit odd!

I think we were the only guests there at the time, the place was dead and the small towns around it were pretty much all shut up- no restaurants, no bars- nothing. If you want to genuinely enjoy France and the Normandy Coast, go somewhere closer to civilisation like Caen or even Arromanches or Bayeux. Good wasn't hard to find in these parts!

We were excited about the prospect of staying in a real Chateau with swimming pool and everything looked good on the photos. However,m the reality is a little different. The service was basic although the breakfast was OK and sufficient. As it is an old building, the plumbing left something to be desired. No real complaints however but perhaps a good place to stay for a couple of days before exploring the rest of the Normandy coast.

Room Tip: If you want to stay in the actual chateau ask for a room nearer the stairs otherwise the hot water h...

There are a variety of rooms in this once great Chateau, and sadly some of them are small enough to go with the old joke, "even the mice were hunchbacked." Some of the out-buildings have rooms that do not have windows.
The hotel has not had an upgrade since Kennedy was President.
On the positive side the restaurant is nice, and the meals were fair.
It should be redone

Room Tip: Wish I could tell you the rooms some of the other reviewers were in- didn't see one like them

Beautifully restored outside, unfortunately the rooms in the Chateau still need to be done: worn-out, thin-walled, very small.
Nice restaurant.
