A traditional looking hotel in the centre of this small village of Chitenay. A pleasant welcome on arrival by the staff on reception. Shown to room 25 on the second floor at the rear of the hotel overlooking the rear garden. Pkenty of on dite parking for cars an cycles.
Room was spacious and the ensuite had large bath with shower. Double bed was very comfortable and selection of pillows in the cupboard. Airconditioning kept the room cool but was not needed over night.
We stayed on a half board basis. The breakfast was great with a selection of fruits, cereals, fruit juices and all normal continental breads and croissants. Some was even produced locally. Set us up for the day ahead. Evening meals offered wide selection of menus. Great care and attention given to presenting the food.
Generally the staff were all pleasant and looked after us very well. The addition of the pool in the rear garden made the stsy even more enjoyable. Plenty of nooks and crannies in the garden to find a space to chill out. Would recommend a stay.

This hotel is a little gem in a small rural village. The welcome was extremely friendly and that level of service was maintained throughout by a young and enthusiastic team. We booked the day before and managed to get one of the last available rooms, which was very clean and comfortable, although quite small. The heated swimming pool is new and a reasonable size. The garden is well kept and is well used by guests - many of whom are bicycle tourists. Best of all was the food. You can eat outside on the terrace but we ate in the very agreeable dining room. There were three menus ranging in price from about 25 to 52 €. The food was beautifully prepared and excellent, but not overly pretentious; we had ris de veau with kidney and mushrooms, and duck breast with kumquat. There is a good wine list with lots of local wines.

We had a wonderful couple of days at the Auberge du Centre. The atmosphere of this family-run hotel is friendly, informal, welcoming and cheerful. Nothing is too much trouble - the staff are enthusiastic, positive and generous. The rooms are unpretentious but nicely furnished and comfortable. Chitenay is a good base to explore the chateaux of the Loire, and the cycle routes are particularly rewarding. The food is first rate - elegantly served, imaginative and delicious. The garden is very pretty; the pool charming. We look forward to coming back!

It was a very nice stay in the hotel.
The people was very friendly, the eat was very good, the service excellent. The bicyclesroutes were correct en when we had a problem with a bicycle, they need to help us.
There was a lovely garden and a nice swimmingpool. It was very agreable to eat each evening in the garden. They had a grand select of regional wines also other wines. Also the animation was good and it was very pleasure.

Everybody has an idea of what a perfect French country hotel should be: In a pretty village, friendly welcome, spotlessly clean, a terrace/pool area for outdoor dining etc. Auberge is all of the above plus a terrific restaurant and wine list. The owners are keen walkers and cyclists and happy to suggest routes. Their route to Chateau Cheverny (well worth a visit) was wonderful. We booked an upgrade to a Balneo room-well worth the extra for the space and hydro bath. We loved it. Chitenay was the birthplace of Denis Papin (inventor of the steam engine). There was a celebration weekend when we were there-steam cars, engines etc from all round the world-which was great fun

Room Tip: Choose a Balneo room

We stayed as part of a cycling holiday as a group of eight. The exterior is typical of a rural French hotel. The rooms are functional and relatively basic even when upgraded. The food is good and plentiful. The village itself is small and very quiet but pretty. Worth a stay but not luxurious.

We last visited this hotel 20 years ago and made our booking with high expectations. Rather than a 'superior' room we upgraded to a 'Balneo' with wellness centre access.
The room was dirty in places. Cobwebs on the ceiling, hair and dust in drawers, the hydro bath pumped out black dirt and had the impression of not being used for some time. The Wellness centre was closed and no mention made of this facility.
Dinner was excellent but having opted for half board we rather felt as though we were less important than full a la carte diners - there was a marvellous cheese board going round but our selection of cheese for desert was met with three modest pieces of cheese delivered on a plate - no choice from the board.
Having had happy memories of the Auberge, which we believe to be in the same family ownership as our last visit, we expected better, but probably most disappointing was the lack of care afterwards. We left feedback in the room and invited them to follow up with us. Having heard nothing we e-mailed to seek their comments but again no follow up or care.
Location for the Loire is great, the breakfast was great and the quality of the food was excellent.

Room Tip: Don't choose the Balneo
