We stayed here at the end of May 2013 in the 1 bed cottage. This was our 1st holiday in 3 years and our 1st holiday with the new arrival (22 month old daughter).

We booked through Rustical Travel, who I must say are an excellent company. They provided us with lots of information and confirmed cot and high chair promptly. As well as detailed information on how to locate the cottage.

We flew from Liverpool to Girona and hired a car from Hertz at the airport. Following a recommendation we telephoned the Hertz call centre to specifically request a full-to-full fuel policy to avoid the ridiculously expensive fuel charge. They were happy to do this without argument and faxed the confirmation to us. I later discovered that this saved us over 100 euros!

The drive from the airport to the holiday home is scenic and simple; the roads are main roads and appear brand new. Light traffic and easy to navigate. The travel company provide a picture of the dirt track that leads to the holiday home from the main road, without this we probably would have driven straight past it, it isn't signposted.

The track is fine; we managed it in a Seat Ibiza on several occasions, once without waking the little one!

On arrival we were greeted by the charming Lluisa and her family. Her English is excellent, certainly much better than my Catalan. Lluisa has that fantastic ability to be amazingly helpful without becoming overbearing. Our hosts could not do enough for us, this included providing us with medicine (we brought flu on holiday with us) and freshly picked mushrooms from the estate (best mushrooms ever) as well as lots of recommendations about where to eat, local festivals on during our stay and the best beaches and towns.

The pictures of the 1 bed cottage do not do it justice, it is much more spacious than it appears. The furniture is lovely hand crafted wood (no MDF in sight); there is a TV, DVD player, and satellite box in the living room. An ample kitchen with big dining table. A large bathroom with bath shower mixer. And the bedroom has a huge bed, massive wardrobe and two bedside tables. All this and still plenty of room for the excellent cot which also contained child bedding which was a nice touch.

The grounds are amazing; this is what you are going for. It is just so peaceful. it reminds me of the Lake District, but sunny. It is a small working farm; they have sheep, a horse and two dogs (Patti and Coco). And there are woodland walks that start from the farm. You are so far from the main road that you will only hear birds, crickets and the bells tied to the sheep. Of a night, when the sun goes down you can't see your hand in front of your face. No danger of light pollution here.

The nearest town is Arbuciers, this is a short 5-minute drive away, this has many places to eat, as well as a butcher, bakers and possibly a candlestick makers. And just before entering the town you will find a good-sized supermarket. What I loved about this place was that everything is so much cheaper than back home. This is what you get when you don't go to a tourist trap.

We ate out at "Mams" on the recommendation of our host. The food was modern and tasty; the three of us ate two courses, plus two beers, a bottle of water and a bottle of wine to take home for a staggeringly low 30 euros! How is that even possible?

You are 30 minutes from the several excellent beaches, same again to Girona and many other towns.

We also sampled the lamb from the farm, delicious. Although I was concerned when Patti decided to get up on her two back legs to have a look at the food on the table, that dog is huge! Fortunately she didn't eat my dinner and had a little sleep under the table instead, must have dissaproved of my cooking.

This is a wonderful place to stay; our little one absolutely loved it and is still asking to see Patti and Coco. There is so much to do, and the hosts are on hand to make sure you see everything worth seeing.

The only negative... the English flu that followed us!

Lluisa and family, thank you for making our holiday so special.

Colin, Amanda and Esmee.

How glad we are that we found El Moli de Can Aulet, its beauty, tranquility

How happy we are that we have found this haven. It has everything one could want for a wonderful holiday - beautiful scenery, a babbling brook, lots of trees, swimming pool, barbecues and a very convenient computer room. Having stayed in both cottages I can honestly say they are first class, spotlessly clean, well equipped with every attention to detail. We loved wakening up in the morning to the sound of sheep bells and watching them pass by followed of course by the beautiful white horse and the gorgeous dog Patti. Ernest and Lluisa
are fabulous people, always cheerful and helpful, nothing too much trouble. One of our favourite times was in the evening, sitting with our feet in the stream and watching the sun go down, with of course our favourite glass of red! Can't wait to go back. P & R, Ireland

We stayed in El Molí de Can Aulet's one bedroom cottage - El Cirerer, in October 2012. It was absolute heaven; everything we hoped it would be and more. The cottage is set amongst beautiful scenery and trails, with private areas for relaxing and eating outside. The cottage is stylishly decorated and really well-equipped; we felt at home immediately. Lluisa and Ernest are so welcoming and cheerful (as was Patti - their friendly dog who adopted us immediately) - happy to provide all the information you could need whilst leaving you to relax in peace. Arbucies is a nice village - some lovely restaurants (ask Lluisa for her excellent recommendations), although our favourite meal was El Moli's lamb cooked on our cottage's BBQ. Like other reviewers, we'd planned to do more day trips, but were too relaxed and happy to leave! Having said that - Girona, Barcelona, the beach and the Pyrenees are all very do-able and enjoyable day trips. We had the most perfect time, and were genuinely sad to leave. Would love to return - one of the best places we've ever stayed.

We spent a glorious week in the one bedroom cottage which was extremely well equipped and very comfortable. We had plans to visit Barcelona and Andorra during the week but became so chilled that we just stayed put and sunbathed around the pool (which we had to ourselves for the majority of our stay) and read books. The nearby local supermarket is well stocked and we used the BBQ several evenings and sat out in our secluded patio area with drinks every night just looking at the wonderful landscape with grazing sheep and a horse which always accompanied them, even on the grass terraces, which was magical. The access could be a bit tricky for some cars (we were on motorbikes) as a bit rutted in places, but wasn't a problem for us. The owners Lluisa and Ernest were lovely people and spoke good english and knew the area very well. Visitors had access to a lobby area with a laptop and unlimited free use which linked us to the real world! Not sure if that was a good or bad thing!

After two busy days in Barcelona, we wanted to spend four days in the quiet country side but not too far away from the city. I found El Moli de Can Aulet, located near Girona, by accident on the internet and it was the one of a number of Catalan self-catering places that answered very promptly in English. Our hosts, Ernest and LLoisa, were very welcoming and throughout our stay always open for questions. Both speak enough English to make more complex conversations possible, such like the way the farm is run or information about mushrooms or the area and its culture and customs. Throughout our whole stay, Ernest and Lloisa were always open for a conversation but also never intruded into our privacy. My partner and I rented the 2-bedroom apartment L'Estada (there is a second self-catering apartment on the farm:El Cirerer). This apartment is part of the former restored mill but offers lots of privacy, looking out over the small river and farm meadows. There is a cosy terrace with a table for breakfast in the sun, as well as a public barbecue area (open also to the people in the other apartment) and a play area for children. The apartment itself was well equipped, with good-quality beds and a kitchen catering for our needs. Whilst the central heating system worked well, we used the fireplace every night for its cosy atmosphere, wood was provided by our hosts. There is also a swimming pool but we were too late in the season to use it. The national park of Montseny is close by and the area is full of walking routes - Lloisa lend us a detailed walking map. There are also a couple of short walks starting right at the mill. There is a room available for the free use of all guests with a small laptop and internet connection. All in all, we had a really lovely time and, should we come back to this area, would stay here again. The only difficulty was the access road: it was quite rutted after heavy rains and a bit tricky to find from the main road, so drive slowly :-). For more pictures and information, have a look at the mill's website (both video and photos are realistic reflections of what is there): http://www.elmolidecanaulet.com/
