“Great spa on a beautiful location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2014

Nice rooms, with plenty of natural light. Excellent breakfast buffet and a more than adequate dinner buffet too. I found the spa a real pleasure, probably because it was very quiet. I went to the dated gym just above the mail indoor pool area the following morning and the spa was bursting with visitors, losing the idea of tranquility I had from the previous day. The quality of the treatments, a mixed of muddy salty waters was really good. The island itself is nice, you can't miss a walk around the pine wood just a minute away from the hotel, and also a lovely stroll over the bridge to the nearby town of O Grove, with plenty of seafood restaurants to choose from.

Oh dear, here we go again.

We were given a double room with half board. The room is basic but with a large king size bed. Room is clean and ok. The bathroom very basic but all fine.

However, as with most people we booked this hotel on the assumption that the spar part of the hotel would be fun.

The spar time is for 3 hrs. When we arrived we were made to buy a €2 hat each.. Which was fine,
How ever the spar itself is not up to scratch. Nothing is very good or works very well. The water is dirty and stinks of chlorine. It was over crowded with old aged people 65 yrs plus plus...

The food Is buffet choice. All very dull and mediocre.

The whole place was ruined many years ago when they demolished the old palace and built the ugly 1980s ugly towers.

Avoid at all costs as it's quite depressing!!

We stayed three nights at this hotel in the end of August 2013 and in general we were quite happy with our stay even though we have a few points to make as advice to other travellers:
1) The hándicap friendliness is not as great as we expected when booking. Even though there are no áreas imposible to access with reduced mobility, there was no direct access to the exterior pool área without asking for assistance for the hotel staff to open a passage through the kids' área. The third floor doubles with sea view had a fixed shower screen in the bathtub which made it imposible for a tall disabled person to get into the shower using a seat. This meant we had to change romos to the second floor without a panoramic view to be able to shower. Breakfast was quite good but the bar/restaurant did not offer much that tempted us to eat in the hotel instead of going to O Grove.

Room Tip: If you need to use some handicap-accessories, make sure to check the details with the hotel beforeha...

My wife and I wanted a week away from it all with the option to do nothing if we so chose, and as we knew Galicia to be a beautiful part of Spain the Hesperia seemed to fit the bill notwithstanding its rather stark appearance. Although La Toja seems very much an attractive destination for day trippers the hotel itself was reasonably quiet and it was a pleasure to relax on loungers around the clean and welcoming outdoor pool, soak up some sun and enjoy a good read. Poolside facilities generally were quite limited though- no bar for snacks or drinks, just an inconsistent coin operated vending machine for soft drinks and help yourself selection of umbrellas, albeit a pair of nice, clean toilets. The hotel advertises its spa facilities extensively and my wife enjoyed two massages at not unreasonable prices, our limited Spanish being quite good enough to convey what was required. We did not really fancy being trapped in the rest of the slightly claustrophobic, occasionally noisey and excessively humid spa facilities however, especially as even if we could have been bothered to make head or tail of the variety of confusing offers with which we were initially assailed they would have cost a lot more on top of the already not inexpensive rate we were paying for our bed and breakfast. Our room was large, impeccably clean, with a very large and comfortable bed with nice linen and a variety of pillow options, excellent en suite, lovely sea view, efficient and not intrusive air conditioning, complimentary toiletries and robes, fluffy towels, safe, TV, hair drier, mini bar (limited contents- all 3E a pop) and inquisitive sea gull tapping the window "on the cadge". Disappointingly non of the rooms seem to have balconies which is a shame- it would have been lovely to sit outside and watch the sun go down with a glass of something cold. I was also irritated by a door stop protruding from the floor in the bathroom on which I kept stubbing my toe. Breakfasts were all you can eat buffets, generously available until 11am, with a wide range of good quality food and drink, although some of the hot food seemed to run out closer to the end of the sitting. The extent of the breakfasts meant we did not really need any lunch, although we did have the odd snack elsewhere when exploring the rest of the O Grove area (including some lovely secluded and quiet coves all to ourselves a little bit further from the beaten track). Evening meals were either buffet (reasonably priced, but we did not try them) or a la carte in the nicer atmosphere of the adjoining Aqueducto restaurant, part of the hotel. Very nice regional specialities, attentive staff (especially Eduardo) and a wide range of excellent albarinos! Bar facilities in the hotel very limited and not really conducive to relaxation. Staff generally helpful but not that many of them and no porterage. Not worth paying extra to park the hire car in the garage under the hotel- plenty of free, apparently safe on street parking outside. Interior common parts of the hotel are rather bland and lacking character. Nothwithstanding the minor gripes we enjoyed our stay and returned home feeling our batteries had been recharged as we had hoped, although there is just an undercurrent that this is more a good 3 star rather than a 4 star establishment.

Room Tip: worth paying a bit extra for sea view

This hotel has a lovely location at Isla de la Toxa. It is a wonderful property for a famíly staying. Food is great and serviço too! A perfect value for the money. SPA is very good and the swimming-pool of salted water is just perfect.! Our famíly totally recomends this hotel.

Room Tip: Higher floor and rooms toward casino have the best view.

We booked one night, stay three nights more. The Spa is good and the price is worth. Everything is working well and clean. The room and the bed is of good quality. Staff is friendly and professional. You have a rich variety for breakfast. Parking is free. The hotel location on the isla de la Toja is a good and fine location. From the outside, the hotel doesn't look very friendly. We didn't find a better hotel in the area. The nearby Grand Hotel is too expensive and unfriendly. The Luxo not the same quality and hotels in O Grove doesn't have thermal water.

We purchased a 4 day rate which was half board and included access to the Spa.

The hotel room was very spacious, ours had a sea view, well decorated with comfortable beds.

It was August and we had no problem obtaining sun loungers and umbrellas in addition the spa seemed very quiet.

The bar facilities in the hotel were non existant with only a vending machine by the pool and a bar outside the main hotel entrance.

Our only negative was the variety of food served by the buffet during the evening meal.
