“Pleasant - as always”
Reviewed 17 August 2010

3 years running we have broken our journey to SE France, at Le Pan De Bois. The Hotel is one of 2 adjacent family businesses (the other is the adjacent restaurant, which I strongly recommend).

The locality is uninspiring - it is largely a commercial zone, on a main thoroughfare, but it is well-placed for access to/from the A26 and A5, which is a bonus for travellers, and the hotel and restaurant facilities themselves are good value.

The hotel is in two separate buildings: one houses the reception and breakfast room, behind it is the 2 story block of family rooms which we have always used.

Rooms are functional and clean with perfectly adequate en-suite shower and WC. Toiletries and towels are provided,

The free wi-fi signal (ask at reception for the access code) from the main block is strong enough to reach the room 47 - which is the farthest away from the source of the signal.

The restaurant is nicely decorated inside, and diners on the terrace are shielded from the main road by its delightful flower arrangements. Food is very good, and prices are fair - the menu affaires offers a very good deal.

The staff have always been very polite and helpful (I can only imagine that reviewers complaining of rudeness, have themselves been impolite), and we plan to use the hotel again in the future.

If staying on a Sunday, when the restaurant (which is always heavily booked by locals on a Saturday: a very good sign, in our view) - is closed, there are a number of "fast food" joints within walking distance of the Hotel, but we found very decent, well-priced meals are available at Restaumarché, about 2.5km (1.5 miles) from the hotel, at 134 Avenue Michel Baroin, 10800 SAINT JULIEN LES VILLAS near the junction with Rue du Moulin Le Roi, 10800 Saint-Julien-les-Villas (Google Maps will misdirect you if you use only the restaurant address, but this link should show the route from the Pan de Bois :

Sad, tired, dated and somewhat overpriced for the experience. It was at least clean and the bed fairly comfortable but there is little else to commend this place. About 2km out of Breviandes it has a restaurant (closed on the Sunday we visited) so cannot comment on that but the breakfast was rather mediocre with the most unusual tasting orange juice we’ve ever tasted. They must try not passing it through the human urinary tract first. The décor was firmly 1970s and nothing seemed to have been updated since construction. Reasonably welcoming staff (but we had to wait for her to run up mid-afternoon when we arrived). Good for nothing but a night’s sleep, but I wouldn’t even recommend it for that given the alternatives.
