“Lovely, clean campsite with friendly staff.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2013 via mobile

Booked through Al Fresco to stay in a mobile home at Esterel campsite, Agay, France.
The campsite is set on the side of a mountain with most of the mobile homes situated in relatively private plots. Parking can be a bit tricky as space is limited. The site offers an entertainment programme that includes exercise classes, pool games for kids and adults, evening shows. These wont appeal to everyone but the staff involved are a talented bunch and although we didn't partake in the games it was fun to watch! The pool area is busy but we were always able to secure sun beds, there isn't much shade and no food is permitted poolside which I feel helped to keep the area clean -the lay out made it easy to keep an eye on the kids-men are not permitted to use the pool if they are wearing loose swim/beach shorts, the teenage boys seemed most perturbed by this rule! The site was very clean and security good. Some play/sports areas are looking a bit tired and worn out but on the whole the place seems well run and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.

We travelled to Esterel at the end of June 2013 for a two week stay. On arrival we found the staff very helpful and friendly. You could tell they were well trained and seemed to genuinely care you had a good experience there. On the first day there I had a problem with my rental car and the girl at reception went the extra mile to help me arranged a replacement car with the less-than helpful rental company.

The site itself is set in the woodland of the Esterel Park which makes for fabulous scenery but also add a little bit of shelter from the sun on hot afternoons. The mobile homes were clean, spacious and well designed with large decking area and air conditioning.

On the down side, some of the parking was ridiculous, if you have anything larger than a small family car you simply cannot fit the car into the space provided. And if the road you are on is full of parked cars it almost feels like a severe test of driving skill trying negotiating a car in or out.

The facilities at the site were very good, the kids love the pool area and the entertainment put on there. The Kids Club and nightly entertainment was also very good. The on site bar, and shop was very handy for essential food and drink. However I felt the standard of food in the restaurant was not was not good at all.

The tennis courts could do with an upgrade, but if you're just playing for fun they do the job. I saw some complaints about it being noisy, but that depends where you are pitched in the site and the nightly entertainment finishes up at about mid-nite.

If the on site shop is not for you, there are a couple of supermarkets a short drive away in Saint Raphael. You can also stock up on fresh food at some of the local markets.

The site itself is only 3kms from Agay which is one of the less built up areas of the Cote D'Azur. There are a number of beautiful hidden beaches and coves nearby which are great for families, but you do have to get there early to get a good spot. You can hire a bike or walk in to the Esterel Park and enjoy the scenery.

If you're looking for trips further afield Saint Tropez and Cannes are an hours coastal drive away, although be warned the traffic gets very heavy at around midday. If you fancy a inland trip, Lac De St Cassien is a lovely spot to spend an afternoon.

So overall a very good camp site for families with genuinely helpful and friendly staff, set in a very beautiful part of the Cote D'Azur

HOW MANY TRAVELLED - family of 4, kids aged 7 and 10.
WHEN - 20th July 2013 for 1 week
WITH - Thomson Alfresco , caravan Vivaldi LUX ( largest caravan )
WEATHER - hit 40c on 3 days the rest around 35-37c
LOCATION- Agay beach- Beautiful, long beach depth around 25 foot. Car ride around 5 mins to beach. the location couldnt be better!!
CARAVAN- The caravan was lovely, clean and very large, air con is a must, no bbq's allowed on this park mind you so you will need to cook or eat out, staff at thomson where excellent , Jordan especially excellent as my wife had an ambulance emergency to hospital, jordan arranged a further 2 days caravan free of charge as my wife could not fly. Thank you thomson / Jordan and team you were amazing , we will be using you again and for the same resort.
RESORT----- RESTAURANT on site, the staff NATALIE and CHLOE are just a delight to deal with, they where so attentive , fantastic service girls thank you so much for everything we will be back- king family. The restaurant is a lovely intimate outside restaurant with seating indoors as well, the menu is full of fish and different other meals, duck, steak , etc etc you name it its here,
only one issue here is the food and drinks are expensive so get saving, main meal adult is around 18e and childs 12e, beer is 6e and vodka and coke is 6e, so i guess a meal for family of 4 is roughly 120Euro. They have a shop on site, again a bit expensive, they have fresh croissants and baguets baked daily morning and lunch time. everything you need is in this shop and again the cashier is helpful. The resort has a takeaway facility, pizza's to mussels, all are fantastic and you can eat them in courtyard bit where bar is, again the staff are excellent and happy to serve! they also have a couple of swimming/ women nic nac shops in courtyard which sell well swim ware, beach bags and other bits, looks quite nice. The swimming pools - there are 3 and a little slide for the little ones, these are just outside where restaurant over looks them again beautiful, slush puppy will set you back 3 euros again a bit pricey. There is also an inside for the little ones " up to say 6 year of age " little pool complex attached is a ice cream shop and toilet, newly done so at present very nice, you can sunbathe and the kids can play in here with no issues it seems! My youngest is 7 but special needs so a little unbalanced on his feet but again its safe in here while i could relax on a lounger just 5 feet away! THE BAR- again the staff here are just excellent i mean seriously everyone is so nice, VICTOR is very funny us and made the bar area feel very personal and friendly, thank you VICTOR! The park is set on the mountains and therefore has steep hills , if you have wheelchair you may want to re-think, our youngest is walking at 7 special needs but it was hard for him in areas.
I HAVE one more thing to say, i don't know what people are expecting that ask for a tent place next to entertainment area and then moan about the noise, one word idiots spring to mind! the staff here are excellent, i have a business in England and I would employ any of them in mine, thanks again everyone, we will be back soon!

Room Tip: There have been some comments about the loudness of the parc, if this is an issue simply ask for a c...

We are an Irish family living in Alscace in france so decided to try out the south of france. Got in our car at 5am with our dog tippi to avoid traffic at the border, drove for 3 hours and decided to have a quick nap 1 and half hour later got going again ... got to st raphael with no problem but then our sat nav lady decided to have a laugh by sending us everywhere except to the campsite , luckily we had written directions from the campsite so got there eventually.first impression looked really well kept , we went to the reception and were greeted with very friendly and efficent service which really helps after a long drive .we drove to our mobile which was at the end of a road ,perfect for the dog as we had a small garden .After sorting ourselves out we went for a wander around the site firstly the bar " OF COURSE "which was one if not the nicest bar we have been to on a campsite we were also delighted to find it was happy hour so dinks were half price now that really Hit The Spot . Went to the restaurant which had a good menu and food was good .pool area was really maintained with plenty of space but don't forget your speedos as shorts are not allowed for swimming !!!! Shop was well stocked but could do with staying open a bit longer.Over the next week we explored the area Antibes is really worth a visit lovely old town. If we had one complaint that was finding a beach that would allow dogs we were told there was only one which was beside a naturist area we couldn't find it but then again maybe somethings are better not seen !!!! Anyway to wrap up super holiday in a super site we are hoping to return sometime with our 4 year old grandson as he would have a ball in the play and pool area. Cheers.

Room Tip: Try get a spot in the hills views are beautiful.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2013

We went for a week with Keycamp in May 2013 as part of a multi trip holiday. After spending the day travelling from Switzerland, we arrived late afternoon and went to reception to book in. This was quite slow and a bit frustrating but I suspect it was because they had not long been open and were training new staff. After booking in, we went to the Keycamp reception to book in there! but as we were late afternoon, there were no reps to meet us, but our arrivals pack had been left for us.
We went to find our mobile home, which was not an easier task as the site, although not huge, is not clearly signposted and not easy to follow on their map. Eventually, we got to our home, which was very impressive, a Vista model. It was very clean, pretty spacious and well stocked, a good start. We opted for the model with deck and air con, a must when it was hot!!
The homes did seem rather squeezed in though, there was very little room between each mobile and parking was not easy.
The weather was a bit mixed for the first couple of days, so we took advantage of the indoor pool/splash area, which was great for our young son, he loved it! and stocked up at one of the many good supermarkets in the area.
We decided to try the restaurant on our first night and it was really good, not cheap but very good, friendly service, good food, an enjoyable meal, so worth giving it a go.
We had a good explore into the Esterel forest, which I would expect is good for cycling as well and is right next to the campsite.
As the weather improved, we took advantage of the outdoor pools, which were great, our son loved the little slide into the smaller pool, but it was not heated, so too cold for swimming!! (maybe better in July/August). A couple of the pools were heated, and were very pleasant. As we were there before peak, there were always plenty of sunbeds and the pool was not crowded, however, as with anywhere, it would probably be too busy for us during peak times.
Next to the pool was a childrens playground, again, great for our son.
Also on site was a small shop, which was well stocked and quite reasonable, a gift shop, again, well stocked, and takeaway (which we didn't use).
There were numerous sport facilities on site, but we didn't use them, however, they did look like there were in need of some refurbishment.
The surrounding area was very picturesque, Agay beach was very nice, and the Esterel massif was beautiful, however, traffic was very slow pretty much everytime we went anyway. Coast roads, town roads and the A8 were always busy. We found trips out would take much longer than planned as it was so busy, and this was May, I would expect it to be clogged up during July/August and we would not visit at this time of year.
Having said that, there is so much to do, we visited Monaco twice, once for sightseeing, once for F1 practice and I would highly recommend a day trip, Nice was great (lots of building work going on) aswell.
I would definitely recommend Esterel campsite, as we enjoyed our holiday, thought the campsite was ideal for using as a base to visit places but also to spend time on aswell, with a great pool area and restaurant.

Room Tip: Opt for a decking area and air con!

A great relaxing holiday. We were there in June so it was fairly quiet, but the advantage to this was that you could do what you wanted, when you wanted. Reception was friendly & helpful and pool complex was just what we were looking for - somewhere to relax and have the occasional swim. I would recommend to anyone, but you will have to bear in mind that it is built on a hill so there are some steeper parts within the campsite.

We stayed here for the 3rd time this year and it lived up to it's expectations as usual. It has a great location for exploring the South coast and great facilities. We stayed from the end of June until mid July and there were plenty of sunbeds at the pool and activities for the children.

Happy hour in the evening was a bit too early if it was 8 to 9 they would probably have the bar packed out for the rest of the evening.

Only downside is the onsite fast food bar that sell pizzas, chips are fine but the pizzas are not too pleasant.
