“Another amazing French vacation”
Reviewed 29 July 2012

We stayed at the Moulin for the third time in April with our two boys. Again we had a great time and enjoyed having such a lovely home base for our expeditions. We enjoyed being able to come home and cook ourselves up a French meal. I think my favourite part was my early morning stroll to the bakery for our daily supplies. It was lovely and peaceful with everyone and everything waking up around me. It was nice being able to do some washing as well, as this is very difficult for a family on tour!

Guy and Gabby are wonderful hosts and we enjoyed the tour of the mill. Our boys loved this as well and were in awe of the old machines. My husband loved to run through the park next door and keeps saying he wishes he had that at home. The boys loved the trampolines and kicking a ball around on the grass outside. We even played badminton.

Although we have stayed there three times we had not ran out of things to do. We visited some of the same locations and a few new ones. We really enjoyed Le Beaux and the boys did especially. I would recommend this as a day trip. We also went to Rousillon again and this time went on the walk through the red rock.

Noves is a great place to base yourself and easy to get there from Paris on the TGV direct to Avignon.

In June, friends and I stayed at Moulin de la Roque for a week. Beautiful outdoor spaces, including the green sward of lawn, a terrain for boules and especially a superb swimming pool where we could all relax; equally beautiful indoor spaces where we all felt so much at home! Everyone's bedroom was excellent; bathroom facilities were somewhat shared, but also excellent, kitchen and dining room all very well equipped for enjoying ourselves.
We loved Gaby and Guy's hospitality, especially when Gaby was able to sit down with us and talk to us about the renovations of the historic accommodation, and Guy took us on a tour of the whole site. We also enjoyed the cocktail party, meeting the other guests. We also had a very successful art class with a local artist; Gaby helped to organise this, and as for her suggestion that we eat at Mas du Capoun; Mollegès: the best meal we had! We'll be back next year!

We have just spent our second week at Moulin de la Roque and are booking again for next year. We have 3 young children and it is not easy finding holiday destinations that tick all the boxes, but this one really does. La Bergerie is perfect for families as the children can just tumble off the terrace onto the huge lawn and run around to their hearts content. This freedom for the children made the holiday much more relaxing for us parents. The location in Provence is also fantastic as there are so many beautiful villages with fantastic markets, wines and restaurants to visit. We are already dreaming of next year's holiday there. Thank you Gaby and Guy.

Room Tip: Houses with direct access to the large lawn are ideal for families with young children.

My wife and I have spent most of our working life in the leisure industry and recognise when an establishment has been created with love,The most impressive aspect was that the web site was fantastic but the reality was even better, Guy and Gaby have a winning formula,

It was that kind of vacation to remember the whole life. The light, the smell, the air, the taste...
everything was different. But the most beautiful thing was that we did not felt
like home but transported into a fairytale or in a daydream. Exactly what we
were looking for!
Maybe not all the guest are fond of the history of the mill but for us it was
absolutely great! In this way we felt surrounded by history, family atmosphere
and living somebody's life...So nice!
In all true honesty we think that this is the first time when we want to return in
the same place..we want to continue our daydreaming...

Room Tip: Just listen to the owner and you will get the best fit.

Moulin de la Roque provides a perfect venue for touring Provence. The location is convenient, the accommodations themselves are lovely and comfortable and the hosts hospitable and helpful.
Moulin de la Roque lies just south of Avignon, a few miles off the A-7, the major route in the area. Within a half hour you can be in Avignon, the hill towns of the Luberon, St. Remy de Provence, Les Baux de Provence. Just slightly farther afield are Arles, Aix-en-Provence, Orange and Nimes.
The accommodations themselves are well thought out. We felt like we were walking through a travel brochure. Independent units range from one to three bedrooms. We stayed in Le Petit Moulin, a two-bedroom unit up one flight of stairs and right next to the owner’s living accommodations. There was a comfortable living room with a tv (if you speak French), a nicely outfitted kitchen with lots of dishes and pots and pans, etc., and even a dishwasher. The two bedrooms were large with comfortable beds. There were two bathrooms as well. One was very small but had a great shower; the other was large with a tub and hand-held shower as well as a washing machine. There was a separate WC. Everything worked extremely well --- plumbing, electricity, etc. There was a wonderful “guide” book written by the owners that provided information on the property itself as well as information on the surrounding area. The only downside to this unit was that the “terrace” was located down the stairs and across a graveled area, making it inconvenient for eating. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. The pool was crystal clear and many guests enjoyed the cool water daily. There were also trampolines and other games available as well as walking trails. When we were there, there were many families and all the children enjoyed the pool and games. It was very easy to walk in to the nearby town of Noves where you can buy wonderful bread at one of three bakeries, stock up on other groceries or have a pastis at Le Rex right near City Hall (Hotel de Ville). And the town of Noves itself is quite charming and worth looking around for a few hours. Upon arrival, a good map is provided that shows the ways in to Noves but we still had some trouble with directions as there are no signs for Moulin de la Roque. Also be prepared for an unpaved lane in to the property.
The hosts, Guy and Gaby, were fabulous. Both speak English; in fact, Gaby is American by birth. We learned rather quickly to rely on them for great restaurant suggestions, best routes to wherever we were headed, and suggestions for places to visit slightly off the beaten track. If you tire of local, Provencal cuisine, ask Gaby for the menu for the great take-out pizza place in Noves.

Room Tip: Read the description of the various apartments carefully and you won't be disappointed.

What a week. Guy and Gaby are the perfect hosts, the setting is beautiful, accomodations top shelf and the Provence experience is all around you. Minutes walk into Noves for everything you need. Don't miss Guy's tour of the mill! I couldn't have written a script any better than how our week turned out for our family and friends who joined us. We will be back. Thanks for the candles for our evening meals Gaby!! JW
