On my way back from Ronda, we stopped off for a tapa 'pitutapa' or two to refresh! What a great spirit the village has for leaving their houses 'smurf blue' - original! Not too much to do here, but an hour or two to wander around and a few pictures with the smurfs made my journey back to Malaga from Ronda eventful and fun! I am sure kids would be mesmerised!

Juzcar is a cute little village to visit on your way to Ronda. You can take a few pictures with larger than life size Smurf statues. The color of the once white washed buildings are a beautiful Smurf Blue. Lots of opportunites for pictures with statues and mushrooms. Do you research to see why Sony chose this village. Pretty neat! I hope the village will continue to thrive. My only complaint pertains to the bathrooms. You have to pay to use them...pretty standard in Europe. I would like to see clean bathrooms. Perfect place to stop to or from a trip to Ronda.

When going from Ronda on very narrow windy mountain road (got fun even driving Fiat Panda :-)) after 3 or 4 typical white villages nested here and there on the slopes you suddenly find yourself in the same type of village but painted in nice rich blue color. It's really small and 1-2 hours is enough if you don't intend to spend some time for coffee or lunch (though the village is so small that there are 1 or 2 places only)

This village has to be seen to be believed. Tucked away in rural Spain is a small village which was used to film the Smurf Movie. Permission was granted to paint the normally traditional white Spanish houses the vivid Smurf blue. After the film was concluded the village decided to retain the blue houses and the result has been instead of a few hundred visitors a year they now get thousands and are now a prosperous village. Definitely worth a visit to see it.

Dubbed "Pueblo Pitufo" (or Smurftown), a pretty little village high up on the mountains, 20 minutes drive from Ronda, was painted blue to host the worldwide premiere of "The Smurfs" in 2011, and villagers voted for it to stay blue, after the publicity event. Have a blue lemonade at the charming Hotel Bandolero. Fun and captivating.
