“Excellent hotel, great value and stylish too!”
Reviewed 1 April 2014

My husband and I selected this hotel partly because of the reviews on trip advisor but also because it was recommended in our guide book and we were absolutely delighted that we did so. We found the hotel relatively easily and I suppose if you did want to be picky, you can't park outside the hotel to drop off your bags but that wasn't a problem for us. We were greeted by Manuel and were immediately impressed with the interior space. It is a small establishment and we stayed in room 7 which is on the top floor, and as with the rest of the hotel, it was stylish and comfortable with a lovely big bathroom. As you'll notice, Alcoba only has a 2* rating, but don't be fooled by this, it really feels like a very modern boutique establishment that is worthy of a higher rating. Once we'd checked into our room, Manuel accompanied my husband to our car and showed him where to park. The hotel is in a quiet location but literally a 3/4 minute walk from the buzzy centre of Sanlucar. We decided to opt for the full buffet breakfast which was not only amazing value but really delicious. All the items offered were of a high quality and the breakfast room doubles as a mini library with many books to help with your exploration of the area. Manuel recommends local tapas bars and restaurants and all the ones we tried were indeed excellent. I cannot recommend this establishment more highly and I would most definitely stay there again if I return to Sanlucar.

I spent hours searching the internet for a small hotel near the beach so we could spend a few days chilling out in the middle of visiting the towns and cities of Andalusia - the Trip Advisor reviews eventually brought us to Alcoba - we were not disappointed, we had a really great stay. Initially we drove around the block a couple of times to find the parking but once found it was very convenient to be able to have secure parking nearby. We arrived on a sleepy Sunday, Miguel met us with his excellent English and made us feel very welcome , we loved the architecture of the building and style of the rooms. We had room No 7 which was at the end of the corridor, Miguel was very helpful and told us the best tapas bars in the square, best fish restaurants by the estuary, best beach to drive to and arranged a trip to the Donana National Park for us. We walked the few minutes and the sleepy little place suddenly turned into a vibrant town square, the tapas were very good and we loved sitting outside watching Spanish life. The fish restaurants were also within walking distance, and very good we tried 3 of them and enjoyed the meals sitting outside by the sea. The Alcoba 6 Euro breakfast was excellent, loved the fresh orange juice which Manuel provided every morning, and lots of choice of fresh local ingredients. We stayed for 5 days and would highly recommend the Alcoba.

Room Tip: Room 7 - you could hear the school children going to school in the morning - but it wasn't reall...

It is a very good world indeed where a subtly cool hotel owned and run by effortlessly charming people can become so popular. From the fresh tomato for your morning toast to the bikes for hire to the fresh flowers to the 5-star bathrooms, they get it just right.

In the dialogue between new and old in this recently restored building, modernity and freshness are heard clearly; and that is also just rightt in a place as salty and characterful as Sanlucar (where manzanilla doesn't run from the public fountains, but nearly).

This town is a one-off and now we could not consider returning there without staying at the whimsical and delightful Hostal Alcoba.

Last year we stayed at the hotel Barrameda and was very pleased but because of the high score we decided to try the Hostal Alcoba and it was with no regrets. Manuel the owner is a delight just the right balance of friendliness and helpfulness, whilst leaving you free to enjoy your holiday to the full. We stayed in room 6 for 7 nights and we could have stayed longer, everything in the Alcoba is of the highest standard, cleanliness, décor, ambience, breakfast (well worth the 6€ each). I agree with all the other positive reviews and would not hesitate to recommend the Hostal Alcoba to anyone who is discerning.

Room Tip: I don`t think there are any bad ones

This place really is exceptional, and it is due to two things that you would not expect at the price we paid (approx €50/nite):
1. The design and finish of the hotel is absolutely top notch. The attention to detail is top notch and everything works beautifully and is fantastically designed.
2. The service provided by the wonderful Miguel and his family is second to none. From when we arrived and he showed us to the car park. Then in the hotel he showed us two rooms and invited us to choose which one we wanted. He sat down with us on our first day and showed us all the best places to eat and visit in Sanlucar and then did the same when we went to Cadiz.
So, in summary: a wonderful place that you really could not beat for twice the price. I promise you you won't be disappointed.

I chose this hotel for a weekend getaway, we live in a town nearby. We wanted a place close to the center of town so we could park and walk and not worry about driving to explore more than the market which we visit often for fresh fruit, veggies and seafood. If you go to Sanlucar this is a must see attraction.
The owner's son greeted us at the door and directed me to their parking spaces just up the narrow street. His English was excellent and tolerated my Spanish with grace.
The hotel is divided into two sections. The first half contains reception and the breakfast area plus the owner's quarters. The other half contains all guest rooms. Walking from the lobby to the rooms you cross a lovely courtyard which has an inviting pool, deck area for sunning, furniture for lounging and a hammock for just hanging out and they featured an art display from a local artist throughout the hotel.
The sleeping area of the room was small but clean and very modern. The bathroom was large with a grand shower stall. WiFi is available everywhere in the hotel. The amenities were sufficient and of good quality. The bed firm and very comfortable.
Breakfast, 3,00€ for the continental and 6,00€ for the full buffet, was very good and contained the typical Spanish offerings, meat, cheeses, breads fruit, cereal etc. The full buffet included freshly squeezed OJ which makes the extra cost worth it.
The best way for me to rate this establishment is to ask would I return and recommend it, without a doubt, YES.

A couple from the UK, we stayed at Hostal Alcoba in late July of this year and it was absolutely lovely. Slightly hidden away down a small side street, on approach it doesn't look like anything special at all. However, inside it is beautiful, modern yet warm and has bags of modern Spanish arty-style. The rooms are modern and clean, with a great walk in shower and free bath products, v.comfortable bathrobe and slippers.
The family who run the hotel are very friendly and accommodating, and are always around to help in any way. Would highly recommend Hostal Alcoba, it is a fantastic place to stay, not to mention very reasonably priced. It is also very close to the main square of Sanlucar (but far away to not be noisy), and prob around 10-15 mins walk to the beach.
Sanlucar itself was a delight, a pretty small town, where most people gather in the main square in the evenings. The tapas were amazing, with seafood obviously taking centre stage: would especially recommend the langoustines and tortillitas de camarones, which is like a little shrimp fritter/omelette and is delicious. There are lots of Spanish tourists there, but it is still very authentically Spanish: In the whole time we were there I didn't hear anyone else speaking English, which we liked.

The only thing which could have improved the Hostal Alcoba for us would be if the rooms had had a safe, as we prefer to be able to lock away our passports and money. But that was literally the only thing we missed during our stay.
