“Good regional food”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

During a week's walking holiday in the Cevennes, this was actually one of the best meals I had - The food was well prepared and with a regional accent. I had both a starter and main course with salted cod (I don't eat meat, so the choice was limited), and both were very tasty. The terrace is very pleasant too. I also ate at Les Bellugues, which was pleasant enough, but I would recommend L'Oronge.

“I loved it!”
Reviewed 3 January 2014

we went there in the late summer on a Saturday without a reservation so were very lucky to get a table. The resteraunt itself is beautiful with flowers everywhere and such a lovely setting. The place was packed but even so I can't say the service was slow. I take it the waiters had been working there for ages and were excellent running about everywhere and were great fun with it. As for the food well you just couldn't fault it! Even the price was reasonable with different set menu's for every ones budget. A truly lovely place.

“Nice in rain, nicer in sunshine!”
Reviewed 11 October 2013

This little hotel in the middle of town is dependable for pretty good food and service. Sometimesif it gets crowded, service will slow, but the staff is good natured and all will go well. The waiter has worked there for years. The patio, amid roses and umbrellas, is a charming place for lunch after market day while you chat about your purchases. The interior is spacious, and the menu is broad enough for carnivores and vegetarians both. The fish has been uniformly good in my several visits. There is parking nearby in the public lot by the PT and sometimes on the street. I don't know if there's a handicapped entrance; the front involves stairs. The rest rooms are clean. The quaint steam train depot is just up the street, and the plane trees offer shade on hot days. Across the street is a mosaic fountain of Robert Louis Stevenson and his mule from days of travel in the picturesque Cevennes mountains. Orange is a good stop, comfortable and moderately priced.

“good table in small village”
Reviewed 9 September 2012

Located very centrally in a 17th century former stagecoach inn (the huge arched doors into the courtyard are still there), the restaurant and its terrace can only be reached by climbing a few steep steps, which makes it obviously difficult for anyone in a wheelchair or carrying a pram.
They have three menus (3 courses for EUR18.50, 4 courses for 26.50 and 36.50) as well as a delicious sounding menu for groups and fairly extensive and inventive à la carte choices, mostly based on local products, with such specialities as salt cod raito (a Provençal dilated word for a spicy tomato and garlic sauce), duck foie gras with apricot chutney, tuna carpaccio with pesto and rocket, cold cream of zucchini with coriander and whipped cream... the food is very good, and the local organic wines are too. I'd particularly recommend the summer plate starter: aubergine caviar, melon and ham, diced tomato with fresh goat cheese in a glass, grilled bell pepper slices rolled around a salt cod cream filling, and mixed young greens salad with balsamic dressing.
What brings my rating down to average is the fact that, perhaps because many of the diners are older couples staying at the hotel (2-star), by 10 pm we were the last table lingering over pudding and the waiter, noisily setting up the tables around us for breakfast, made it clear that the sooner we left, the better. The moment we started for the stairs he switched off the terrace light, making the descent of the stairs with baby and pram even more unpleasant.
To be fair, on an earlier visit my friends and I were the last table at midnight and weren't made to feel under pressure to leave, so perhaps this was a one-off. Service during the meal was fine, not especially warm but attentive and efficient enough.
We'll definitely go back for the food, and hope the service gets better.
