“Over the hill, not worth the two stars of the Logis the France”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

We arrived after a long day of walking the Robert Louis Stevenson Way, and we expected the style and standard Logis the France normally guarantees. Boy were we wrong !!! The owner ? did give us the key to the room (we prebooked accomodation) and directed us to a wonky stairway to the hotel. The room itself was tiny, with strange arrangements for the loo, the shower and the toilet, the door of the toilet couldn't be closed and the washbasin was almost falling apart, because the timber had rotted away. But, we had walked an extra mile and a half, so we did not want to try and look for an alternative. We asked for a beer, and the owner stated he could serve on the terrace (it was 11 C outside). Eventually he agreed to serve it inside, but we had to stay for dinner, which was nothing special, warmed up from yesterday. We were the only guests, which in hindsight doesn't surprise me at all. Logis the France needs to re-evaluate this so-called hotel at the earliest opportunity. We will not be going back there, as pricing was way too high for the quality offered.

Arrived to no smiles and very unhelpful chap. One of us was slightly disabled and we received no help with bags. Outside stone stairs to bedrooms are steep and last 3 have no hand rail. No outside light at top of stairs. Rooms very basic. You had to be a contortionist to use the toilet in our room it was so small, could not shut door easily. We were so disappointed that we did not stay to eat. Have had much better breakfast in other Logis. Logis should down grade the rooms, it is not a "2bed" place.

Room Tip: Only saw 2 and grim compared to some other Logis we have stayed in

Typical basic French Auberge. comfortable and clean. Stayed for two evenings and ate each evening - the food which is typical of the region is very good. Recommended. There is not much accommodation easily found in St Jean du Gard but you can have confidence in this place. Not 3 star standard but a comfortable base from which to explore this wonderful area.

This hotel is good if you are looking for a reasonably priced option. Fairly basic bedrooms but clean and staff helpful if you need anything. Interesting history as connected to Robert Louis Stevenson and his travels in the Cevennes with a donkey.

I stayed for one night only at the end of my walk of The Stevenson Trail in July 2011. I struggled to find the hotel initially as it was at the wrong end of town for me but for drivers approaching from the opposite direction, it would be the first place seen on the approach to St Jean du Gard. My room and bathroom were comfortable and clean and I had a decent meal in the evening. Breakfast was an unappetising affair on a tray which was provided the evening before, as I had to be off early for my journey home.
