“Disappointing after a good start”
Reviewed 2 January 2013

We have visited this place a few times for lunch, the restaurant being part of a large hotel complex just outside Zuheros. Our first visit was very promising, with good food and good service. Our further visits have been disappointing, once we even had to leave as we could find no one anywhere near the restaurant area (which was open). Our last visit (an invitation by some friends left them so disappointed, they repeated the invite somewhere else).

“Wonderful setting”
Reviewed 26 September 2012

The Hacienda Minerva is a wonderful building and a great setting for a special meal. The food is good and the wine excellent. Not many vegetarian options but if you ask in advance they are happy to do something for you.

“Very nice place, restaurant is "OK" but not great”
Reviewed 10 April 2012

This is a review solely of the restaurant. I suspect other five-star reviews are influenced by the hotel accommodation which we did not see, and the very nice public rooms which we did see - some having spectacular views and being really very nice rooms. One lunch may not be a fair basis on which to judge the place, but we found it perfectly pleasant: the dining room is nicely designed and food perfectly nice but in no way outstanding. Several things were unavailable, including ice-cream which was a fundamental part of some puddings which were served without the ice-cream but at full price. There is a tendency towards "Ryanair pricing" with expensive mineral water and very moderate bread (in an area where bread should be very good) at €1.50 for a half slice. A starter lacked one of the advertised ingredients, and again no explanation. Main courses were liked and rated well. Service pleasant and fine. They should include some half-bottles of wine (though wines were generally fairly priced). On the basis of our visit, I suspect you visit this place for the 'hotel' side rather than the 'restaurant' side, though I certainly have no specific complaints. It is "OK".

“Beautiful setting for a magnificent meal”
Reviewed 8 January 2012

Our last day in the area, we decided to enjoy a special meal at Hacienda Minerva. First, the hacienda is absolutely beautifully restored. Situated in an olive farm, the setting couldn't be more beautiful.

After a short tour of the library and the taverna, we were led to the dining room. Amazing! The service was excellent as was the food. We had a beet root appetizer, bacalao and some Moroccan pasty that was out of this world. We each had different entrees ranging from lamb, to beef and seafood. All was expertly cooked and delicious. The desserts were equally wonderful. We had the chocolate torte with a warm center and a flan.

A must for good food in a special setting.
