“Delightful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 September 2013

We stayed at Chateau de l'Hoste in August 2013 for 3 days and were extremely pleased in many ways.
The hotel is very well located : surrounded by beautiful valleys and sunflower fields, it only takes a 10 to 30min by car to get to some of the most charming villages of the area.
To add on to this, the castle is magnificent : brilliantly renovated, you can tell owners really look after it and care for it. The same goes for the garden.
We should also highlight that our room was very clean and comfortable (especially our bed).
On the food side, the restaurant has its own chef and "chef patissier" who cooks very delicate and original dishes made of fresh local products (whenever possible).
Finally, the staff was very friendly, professional and diverse : I found it a really good idea to build up such an international crew.

We would really be keen to go back for another stay.

The best time to visit this enchanting restaurant is when it's possible to dine on the terrace. Having eaten here three times in the last five weeks, we feel confident to suggest the quality of the food and service is of the highest standard. We have also eaten inside where yet again the atmosphere and ambience are first class.
A large percentage of the staff, in summer, are from catering colleges etc., and provide a refreshing experience which should suit most people. All staff are well trained to be helpful in suggestions regarding both food and wine, with a very knowledgable sommelier. All in all a delightful place to while away a couple of hours, with a beautiful setting, excellent food, efficient service. What more could man want ?

Nice little castle in a very quiet location amidst fields of sunflowers and corn. Dinner and brekfast on the terrace, nice pool. Our room was not great, but then again we were very late and it was the only one left. The food was a much better deal. Really great in taste, quality, style and for are very reasonable price.

Room Tip: Don't go for the ground floor!

I wanted to treat my teen aged daughter to her first trip to France, a chance to hone her language and her cooking skills (she is very skilled) and to be able to relax. That meant I wanted to avoid Paris. It is, after all, August in France. The Chateau could not have been a more perfect choice. We did a two day cooking course (what else, we learned fois gras!) The pool was blissfully quiet. The food is exceptional, especially the farm breakfast and our afternoon cafe creme. I can't wait to return, stay longer and explore more than we did of the area.

Room Tip: August will give you field after field of corn and sunflowers. All the rooms are now redone, and lo...

We stayed at Chateau de l'Hoste for 7 nights and have really enjoyed our time there. We booked a 'classic room' including breakfast. Below our opinion on the overall stay.

The positives:
- nice breakfast, freshly baked bread and local produce
- good, attentive service
- friendly, international staff, have loads of tips for things to see and do in the area and speak various languages (French, English, German)
- spacious, quiet rooms
- great swimming pool (good size) with nice lounge chairs and parasols
- dog Barry, very friendly and not begging for food during the meals
- dinner is really very good, the meats are prepared to perfection, the plates look like art, we especially recommend the rabbit ('lapin') and also the desserts are superb
- enough to see and do in the area (towns to visit)
The less positives:
- the rooms get very hot during the day and there is no air conditioning or fan so the sleeping comfort isn't optimal
- no fridge in the room

We would certainly recommend friends and family to stay here.

Room Tip: Bring a cooler for your drinks.

On a recent business trip to the region, with a developer who works for me, I was recommended to this hotel by a local estate agent. There was only one other elderly couple staying there. It was regrettable that my wife was not with me. If that had been the case I would have chosen one of the top suite/rooms, rather than 2 classic rooms. The developer would have remained in a classic room! But the classic rooms were large, immaculately clean, and combined modern conveniences with the classic lines and features of the Chateau.

I had dinner on the Terrace, but prior to that I was invited to the wine room to choose a wine. It was a a gem of a room with a considerable choice of local wines from the Cahors area and regional wines.

After some gastronomic excesses the night before at the Charbonnel Hotel in Brandome, I limited my meal to a main course and a desert. The first was an assembly of seafood. The meal was prepared by the owners daughter who is under chef at the hotel. The presentation was delightful. The fish was cooked to the exact point where it is tender and succulent yet not sashimi. In a shot glass on the plate was a sea food mousse with some green roe incorporated within it. Again it was perfect. On the plate there was a a third assembly which had been prepared in a pot and then inverted to leave a small compressed tower of fish with red peppercorns and fish row. The combination of flavours with the different textures and the crunch of the mild pepper corns worked well for me.

The desert was local seasonal fresh fruit with raspberry dust and sorbet with a thin chocolate sail. A delight to the ice and delicious.

All the staff from the owners who I was able to spend time talking to, to the restaurant and hotel staff were well trained, friendly and efficient. This is a wonderful hotel to take a wife or girlfriend to make them feel special.

Room Tip: Both the Classic rooms and the Suite rooms are very good. For a longer visit I would choose the suit...

This hotel is located in the south of France, but far from the beaten track
Sorrounded by beautiful fields, that you can explore via renting bicycles at the hotel , an experience I fully recommend
The hotel is a country house full of character . It would need some updating , though, as rooms and bathrooms are not very modern , and its decoration is so so .
On the plus side, the location is great, the swimming pool really nice, and the best of all: dinner at the hotel restaurant : fantastic food .
I remember fondly sitting outdoors and watching the sun set among the trees of the hotel park, while sipping champagne .
So if you look for tranquility, a charming place, and great food, while ignoring dated decor, this is your place
