Picked this hotel on the strength of other positive reviews, and was very glad to have done so. We needed an overnight stop near the Channel Tunnel to recharge our batteries after a 600+ mile drive from the Alps and this met all our requirements perfectly: good location (about 30 minutes' drive to the tunnel the following morning), peaceful and picturesque village setting, a building with character, a warm welcome, clean comfortable well-appointed rooms, superb dinner (with exceptionally good wine list) and an excellent breakfast buffet. We'll certainly be back.

(For those unable or reluctant to speak French the staff speak excellent English and need no encouragement to do so!)

Forget about staying in city/town hotels they are not a patch on this excellent hotel. From the very start of making email contact to the end of our stay the owners and staff were most welcoming and helpful. Situated between St-Omer and Dunkerque in a tiny village it's a good location from which to explore the surrounding towns and countryside. Rest and peacefulness is pretty much assured here due to being set back from a road which sees few cars. While the rooms are not 5 star they are clean with comfortable beds and pillows, nice linen and good towels. The superior rooms are worth the extra and if there is spare availability you can change rooms. As has been mentioned before the eating experience is not to be missed, the quality and presentation of the food is much above the average and should not be missed, for those with a sweet tooth the sweet trolley is like going to heaven and back. Highly recommended

Room Tip: The superior rooms are worth the extra

Stayed here recently with a group of ten Managers as it is located near one of our plants. The group, used to large chain hotels were slightly underwhelmed by their rooms although all agreed they were clean and comfortable. They were won over by pleasant, friendly staff and an excellent dinner. Recommended.

Recently visited Hostellerie Saint Louis and was more than impressed from our initial welcome until the time we departed. It was unfortunate that we had only booked for one night as this was certainly a wonderful stay. The Hotel was charming with first class helpful and attentive staff. Our room was certainly very clean, well decorated and had a comfortable feel.
The highlight, as others have indicated, was the restaurant. The staff again were helpful and happy to share in cheerful 'banter' [in superb English]. Their advice was sound and the dishes that were brought to our table were excellent, probably the best all round meal that I have experienced in many years of travelling in France and all at a very affordable price.
I would certainly look to make a detour to stay again on any journey via Calais. A really first class experience

Room Tip: Booked an upgraded room at an extra 10 euros which we found to be large, well decorated and very cle...

There are times when the food at the restaurant of this hotel is nudging a Michelin star. I think anything they serve would prove memorable and my only comment would be the way in which the menu is heavily fish biased.

When I explained my difficulty is locating a non fish starter (I am allergic to fish) they returned shortly to say they had found a carrot soup for me. It might sound ordinary but here is was quite an experience. Breakfast is a good average with the usual joke hotel toaster. You can also prepare you own boiled egg - timer provided.

The hotel itself is a large chateau-like establishment with idiosyncratic gardens and acres of free parking. The welcome is very friendly and delivered in English whether you invite it or not. The rooms are spotlessly clean but decorated in suburban French style. The walls are apparently made of matchwood making sex and heavy snoring a distraction for several rooms around. And the floors creak mercilessly turning the passage of a couple of people into a stampede of elephants.

Everyone is very welcoming and friendly and as Michelin would put it the place is definitely "worth a detour."

Room Tip: The location is deadly quiet at night so any room would be much like another.

This was our second visit to the bright and welcoming Hostellerie Saint Louis and our memories of this logis as a first class overnight stop were entirely underlined. It is slightly out of the way but only 20 minutes or so from Calais and well worth a short detour.

The warmth of Madame's welcome and her attention to detail cheered us at the end of a long day's drive and the entire establishment is run with an eye for detail and friendly efficiency. Our room was booked at the last minute on a busy Saturday night and only a standard was available. It was far more spacious than most, entirely comfortable, spotlessly clean and represented excellent value for money.

Dinner was delicious and interesting and the service friendly and impeccable despite a full restaurant and a couple of private functions. One minor quibble is perhaps that, if you don't particularly fancy the more limited choice on the daily menu de jour (27 euros) the next option is a far pricier 35 euros. Having said that, our meal was delicious although the size of the turbot (with a 2 euro supplement) was perhaps a little on the small side. The quality of the food however was such that I suspect that we would have enjoyed anything that we chose, including any of the items on the cheaper menu. The sweet trolley was memorable and a allocation of three puds per person (!) meant that noone need feel deprived or go to bed hungry.

Breakfast was equally impressive with an excellent self service selection of meats and cheeses and unlimited coffee.

We look forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: We were pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness of our standard room which represented excellent va...

Another good stay at our preferred hotel in northern France. The stand-out reason for coming here continues to be the restaurant; hotel-wise it is rather more ordinary but we do know which the best room is and ensure that we always get it. The village has none of the charm or interest of, say, Cassel, but this hotel is reason enough to come here. Minor niggles are the cumbersome and often slow Wi-Fi which requires continual re-registration (although this is still a vast improvement on the previous Wi-Fi offering) and the small TVs in the rooms. But these are trivial set against the delights of the restaurant.
