We booked to stay at HSL after reading many reviews of hotels in the area. We only required accommodation for one night, as we were just passing through en route from England, via France, to Germany. Our room was of good size and very comfortable. HSL is set back from the road, in a quiet village, and has a lovely garden to the front, where drinks can be served.
The staff were friendly, helpful and very efficient.
The restaurant is excellent!!!!! Had it been open on Sunday evenings, we would have booked the HSL for our return journey.
HSL is an excellent choice for short stays, travelling to and from the continent, but would also make a good base for exploring the whole region and for people wishing to visit the battlefields and war graves of Belgium and Northern France.
I would certainly stay there again!!!!!

Room Tip: Just ask for what you require. The hotel is run by the owners and they will do their best to please...

Very much enjoyed our stay here. The staff were wonderful, meals excellent with an extensive menu and room was comfortable and clean - handy heated towel rail for drying clothes!. What more could you ask for - happy to recommend.

Auberge St Louis is one of the hotels that we come back to each year – its location is good as a “Launchpad” for driving from the Channel ports to the south / east of France, Switzerland, etc., and the welcome is always genuine.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, equipped with tea/coffee making equipment (important for Mrs D!) and wifi.

The restaurant is excellent, even on a Monday evening when a limited menu is offered there is sufficient choice to suit most tastes.

The breakfast (buffet style) is generous – fresh fruit, cheese, cold meats, eggs, cereals & patisseries – our only unfulfilled wish is that they would offer freshly squeezed fruit juice rather than bottled orange / grapefruit – otherwise its good value for money and remains on our regular itineraries.

We'd not stayed at St Louis for a while but the atmosphere and accommodation remain as good as ever, and if anything the food has improved, especially the inventive 'amuse bouches'. Took a friend for her first experience and she was very impressed. We will be returning.

We have just returned from our fourth stay at the Saint Louis. As before the welcome, staff attention to detail, quiet location and facilities have been excellent. From the large parking area in the hotel`s attractive grounds to the superb meal which a very talented group of chefs consistently provide the whole experience is restful and rewarding. We will return to this gem.

This is my third visit to this hotel and the standards of food are of the same excellent quality. The room I occupied in the Beaujolis section Bouilly was spacious and comfortable. The shower was powerful and large. There is plenty of parking (avoid under the trees used by birds with the inevitable to paint work). It is very quiet and fairly rural with good access to both Calais and Dunkirk ie D11 at the end of the road then left or right respectively or elsewhere. A satnav for elsewhere with the radar deactivated would be of use. The penalty for use of radar detectors is draconian, you can loose your car.

To get to Ypres is about 50 minutes with all the surrounding battlefields. Take a tour and buy a guide which I would suggest be "Before Endeavours Fade by Rose Coombes". With the book you can do it yourself.

My advice is to give it a try. You will not be disappointed

Room Tip: pay a bit more for a room
