Stayed in the eurocamp safari tent the one to go for nice deck and comfy beds. The showers and toilet block are cleanest I've seen. Pool is nice for swim and slides for kids. Bar area provides great coffee, ice cream and beer. Take away pizza and chips quick and easy. Beach short walk shallow water for kids when tide is out and great bodyboarding for dads when going in. Would recommend

( we do other holidays as well we are not totally sad!!) but if you find something that works for summer! We first visited when the kids were small,(1.4.6) good pool for them, great playground, small safe site.A rest for us- felt like a relief We kept comming back as it works- now they are all older they still wanted to go which says a lot. Small site, very green, immaculatly kept. owners very visible, they have sorted the bar area and added a small soft kids play area. Reviewers mention having to pay for wifi- I understand this but I quite like the fact that the kids have to do without. I asked the owners and they said it was more the fact that they are not on ADSL or fibre so there is very limited capacity. I did a speed test on my mobile and they are right very slow speeds!. Ok- they have added a lot of new site owned vans and frankly forget the operators and book direct you will save a lot of money and the accomodation will be as good if not better. However they dont do bookings until the new year- hoowever email them and get a placeholder in. They used to have only 2 3 bed site vans plus the 2 chalets - now there are more. Most site vans have decking if this is a clincher for you. The site do run a kids club but its more french- but the girls that do it do have some english.Fine for younger ones. Once the kids were older no point going with eurocamp etc. Book directI would say that the deeper into the park you are the better. The key camp vans right by the front i wouldnt fancy, little green. by the entrance, by the small washing machine area and by the club house. Very familiy focuses with something on each night- sometimes noisey by over at a sensible time. More aimed at younger kids.Park is broadly quiet after 2230-2300.Lots of returnees over the years, very good mix of nationalities very nice atmosphere. The pools open at either 10 or 1030 cant even remember!! feels a bit too late when your children are young fells about right when they are teenagers!!! Beach is over the road and across the dunes and is superb- as are the beachs along the whole coast. Trips Planet sauvage- great safaris park, go early. Atlantic toboggan water park up the road- not cheap and limited options for the younger ones for the older ones its ace! if you go after 1600 its a bit cheaper (4 euros). Pony and hoorse rids close by in forest, good for bikes. Whooe coast in very holiday focissed so lots on. Driveable in one day from calais 420 miles approx we stop over going home.Weather you get some mixed days on the vendee coast, it can be quite over cast in the morning but warm and then bingo lunchtime mr sun pops out and thats it! and vice versa. if you want relentless blue sky and 35C go to the south.if you see rain dont panic in 2 hours it wil be gone. teenagers seem pleased with this years tan lines!!!!!.

We've just got back from our weeks camping trip at Les Ecureuils, what a fantastic week we had.

We booked a camping pitch direct using their online booking system and it was so easy. Each pitch is in a set of four but bordered with hedges so giving some privacy, each pitch had its own water supply and electricity.

We were in a little plot of four other camping pitches with all English families. I was happy for my 7 year old to go off on his own around the site and to the park on his own it was such as safe environment. Both children (also have 3 yr old) loved the pool, park and the soft play in the bar area. We didn't attend any of the entertainment or the childrens activities we were too busy exploring the area.

We took the bikes 'just in case' we could use them and it was the right decision. Their are some fantastic bike paths to use, really safe and the french drivers were very considerate of those on a bike. We biked to the local HyperU (6k each way) which was fine with two children very safe, all bike paths or wide pavements all the way.

We found some great places to go on days out either on the bikes or in the Camper, lots of interesting coastline and only 4.5 hours drive from Caen so perfect.

We stayed at Les Ecureuils in late July for 13 nights. We had the best holiday in years. We have one daughter who is 2.5 and she loved the pool complex and the soft play area in the bar. If she was happy then so were we. We spent most of our time at the pool up and down the slides, teaching her to swim, playing in the toddler pool and generally having a great time. The beach is near by and a short walk but when the tide is out it is a bit boring but lovely when in and lots to play with and nice sandy areas.

The bar is great, good service, friendly staff and the soft play area is great if the weather isn't hot or you want a break from the sun for a while. The indoor pool was nice but we didn't use it. The slides and the lazy river were great and well maintained and safe. The pool area had plenty of sun loungers and chairs, we clean and well looked after.

Toilet blocks were clean and again, well maintained. The plots were perfect size. We stayed with Eurocamp with a deck and this was great, good size, nice deck with a gate so the little one can't escape, quiet at night and busy during the day.

We had good weather most of the time but there are plenty of things to do if the weather is a tad overcast. The super U is about 2 miles down the road, well stocked but on the expensive side but then all food in France is, we spent most of our money on food but that is part and parcel of a holiday. The pizzas on site were yummy and daughter loved them, the shop has all the basics, friendly staff and great bread and croissants in the morning.

To be honest this was such a great holiday we have already booked again for 2014 and the grandparents are coming with us!

We have just returned from the Les Ecrureuils campsite.
We booked through Eurocamp Independent was we have our own caravan. The pitches were 110 sqm with each pitch having their own water and waste and each pitch is hedged for privacy, all pitches were very well kept.
The site itself is the cleanist we have stopped at in all our time camping / caravanning.
The facilities are all excellent and with the local amenities all close at hand there is no need to drive the car once here.

My only critisium is that WIFI is only available in the bar area and at a cost. I would recommend that the site buts the prices up and includes WIFI for all pitches.

I travelled with my family (wife + kids 13, 10 and 6) July/August 2013 and stayed in a Eurocamp Horizon with a deck for 10 days. We all really enjoyed the trip, the site and all activities.

The site was smaller than some we looked at this year (200ish pitches) and was nestled in between larger sites which was fine with us as we were not looking for something too lively/noisy. If you want noise, try the Siblu site down the road - drunken Karaoke every night I think (but you could only hear it when the wind blew the wrong direction).

Majority of staff spoke good or excellent English and were happy to help with any questions you had about the surrounding area. The site seemed a good mix of UK, Irish, Dutch and French families both in static caravans and camping.

Eurocamp accommodation was great - all beds comfy, caravan clean and well appointed, and the deck was a good size (enough for all 5 to eat at the table only taking half the space). Take a couple of UK plug adapters or 1 plus a 4 gang extension though for charging phones etc. Pitches were not massive but were pretty private down our cul-de-sac (ask for pitches in the 90's for peace and quiet).

The onsite pool was very good but did get busy on the very hot days - we simply went to the beach or other activities during peak times, so not bothered about that. The Lazy River and the slides were particular favourites for the kids.

The onsite facilities were very good - good bar (reasonably priced but not cheap), great takeaway (pizzas and paella were excellent) and a very good restaurant (Moulles a la Crème were about the best I've ever had, and portion sizes were generous to say the least!). 'Entertainment' was a bit hit & miss and on one night a little risqué but fine for a small site - I'm not one to sit and watch this kind of thing anyway so probably a little harsh as there were plenty of people there the nights we went.

The beach was across the road and through some dunes - 200 yards - and was fabulous. It had waves enough to body board on and shelved shallow enough for very young children to paddle without too much worry for parents. The beach was very long and never got busy enough to have people on top of you but it was windy so I was glad to have a beach 'tent' so we could get out of the sun & wind.

We went to Les Sables D'olonne (another great beach, good shopping and a much bigger town if you want somewhere to look around), St Jean de Monts (the market was good but didn't see anything else of the town due to the torrential downpours!) and the Feeling forest (the eldest and I went on the high ropes and the young'uns went on the min-golf/play area) which was brilliant - well run and reasonably priced, and a bonus (for me anyway) was that everyone there spoke excellent English and was spared my pigeon French.

We drove from the west country via the Eurotunnel as the ferries were so expensive and it was a very easy 6½hr drive from Calais to the site - I say easy as there were lots of very straight well kept roads with no traffic jams or hold ups.

Finally, we all agreed that we'd go back to the same site again as we all enjoyed it so much.

Room Tip: Pitches in the 90s (91 - 99) are down a cul-de-sac and away from the tennis court and play park, so...
