Quaint and very pretty location, reminiscent of the Wye valley, this hotel is rather tired and sad. 'Seen better days' is very apt. That said, our room was clean (-ish) and comfortable and overlooked the canoeing efforts on the Sarthe. Tired decor and a very musty smell made it less appealing. Large room though, with a small balcony - if you go there, ask for room 26. We weren't very inspired to eat there, but having checked out the other 3 eateries on offer in the small and very picturesque town, we bravely decided to eat in the hotel restaurant. The cheapest menu formule offered the best choice and that actually was very tasty: I had a goats' cheese toastie with salad that was quite pleasant, followed by a roast duck that was excellent. Rob had the more expensive menu: rabbit pate (you don't want it, all fat and gristle) followed by grilled salmon - not at all tasty. The wine choice however was excellent, which more than made up for other shortcomings! And if you have children, there's a heated pool and a fantastic games room, including pool and pinball - very entertaining! Les Alpes Mancelles is a pretty region and if it's a one-nighter you're after, this will do ok.
