Quaint and very pretty location, reminiscent of the Wye valley, this hotel is rather tired and sad. 'Seen better days' is very apt. That said, our room was clean (-ish) and comfortable and overlooked the canoeing efforts on the Sarthe. Tired decor and a very musty smell made it less appealing. Large room though, with a small balcony - if you go there, ask for room 26. We weren't very inspired to eat there, but having checked out the other 3 eateries on offer in the small and very picturesque town, we bravely decided to eat in the hotel restaurant. The cheapest menu formule offered the best choice and that actually was very tasty: I had a goats' cheese toastie with salad that was quite pleasant, followed by a roast duck that was excellent. Rob had the more expensive menu: rabbit pate (you don't want it, all fat and gristle) followed by grilled salmon - not at all tasty. The wine choice however was excellent, which more than made up for other shortcomings! And if you have children, there's a heated pool and a fantastic games room, including pool and pinball - very entertaining! Les Alpes Mancelles is a pretty region and if it's a one-nighter you're after, this will do ok.

We booked this through booking.com. This hotel is a bit old world but the kindness and attention of staff were wonderful. Very easy going. We went for half board. Breakfast was baguette, croissant, some yoghurt, juice, hot drinks. So forget cereal, bacon sausage. They have an indoor pool and the village is small and picturesque. It was quiet, clean and just perfect for a couple. Driving around this area was a pleasure too, being that one is in the Alpes Millenes. The hotel has no end of tourist bumf so there is no excuse not to find something interesting to do, such as canoeing, rock climbing or just having beer in one of the local cafes. Definitely worth a visit. It cost us 330 for three nights half board. Bargain or what?

Room Tip: We didn't think really, once the veranda doors were shut there was no noise.

We stayed at this hotel for one night on 23rd July 2007. The village and riverside setting are fabulous. Ample parking space near entrance. We enjoyed our time in the indoor heated pool as the weather was not great that day. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the accomodation was generous and very comfortable and excellent value. We had the best meal of our holiday in the hotel restaurant at very reasonable cost with spectacular views of the river gorges. The whole atmosphere was very relaxing with plenty of comfortable chairs and space in the bar and lounge areas. We found a ping pong table, a pool table, darts board and even some old exercise equipment.
What we really liked was that the pool was on a lower floor to the reception and the bedrooms were on a higher floor. This meant that you could go from the bedroom to the pool via the lift without having to go through reception like you do in many hotels. Definitely stop here for a night and enjoy a quality meal.

  • Liked — The heated pool, comfortable environment and excellent food.
  • Disliked — Slightly off the beaten track, though close enough to Alencon
