Chateau D'Ermenonville
Reviewed 2 April 2014

Like living in a fairy tale, this chateau is exquisite. We had a magical time and can't wait for our return. Close to CDG, I'd recommend a night here to or from a trip to Paris. There aren't many restaurants, shops, etc., but go and get lost in the history of this magnificent property and its grounds.

This hotel is ideally located east of Charles de Gaulle airport, yet in it's own parkland. It is a beautiful setting for a lovely chateau. Some of the rooms have still to be updated, and can look a bit tired, but the renovated rooms are excellent. In the older rooms, the plumbing and heating leave a bit to be desired, but it is still very comfortable despite that. For a stopover on way back from Paris, in the middle of the forest, yet just a few minutes from the A1 motorway, it is hard to imagine a nicer place to stop.

Room Tip: Try for a room overlooking the lake

Go stay before it is modernized, updated and the staff put through the empowerment training plan.
We thought it was just as one would have hoped for. The setting is superb. I do not quite understand why the exterior of the building looks so pristine. Inside it would be best too speak French or at least have some understanding. Our room 208 was of largeish size, very comfortable but lacking in any thing remotely connected to Apple or Google..The in house wifi did not quite reach this far from reception but there was a shower that was remarkable in its pressure out put. Dinner was a very serious matter and just as it should be in these surroundings .Very formal and extremely good. The wine list was short but interesting and the menu was similar. All very well presented and not once did any one say "Enjoy". The size of the napkins and the quality of the wine glasses told part of the story.
I hope Hotels like this will continue to be found and available but sadly believe they are a dying breed which is a huge shame...

My wife and I stayed here on two separate occasions in August 2013. We booked the château because it is close to CDG airport in Paris, where we were picking up and dropping off our oldest daughter as part of a two-week summer vacation in Paris, Normandy and Brittany. We preferred not to stay in a hotel airport, thus the château seemed a reasonable choice. Well, the good news is that the château looks great from the outside, its prices are reasonable and the food is quite good (though somewhat on the high end). The bad news: as others have pointed out, is that the rooms desperately need updating. There is no air conditioning, which during our first stay was really necessary. I won't go into great detail but an update to the rooms would vastly improve this place. As for the service, we found everyone accommodating but perhaps because my wife and I speak French we didn't encounter some of the problems that only English-speaking people have had here. In sum, if you are willing to accept so-so rooms, you might find this an option near CDG airport.

Stayed here on an overnight stop whilst in Paris on business.
The Chateau is a typical French style old fashioned Chateau, which isn't a bad thing.
It has a charm about it and is quite imposing as you drive into the hotel. The setting is quite idyllic with a lake and plenty of greenery surrounding the area, so its peaceful and pleasant!
I didn't eat here as I checked in very late (this is a plus as someone is always there!) and left early in the morning, but colleagues who have stayed here say the food is good.
Its not a modern hotel and I don't think it pretends or should be , but the rooms are spacious enough and have all the relevant amenities. Only drawback is the TV only shows french programmes so I couldn't pick up BBC world service to find out whats happening back home which could be a disadvantage for business travellers.
Overall a satisfactory stay

The chateau is just wonderful as well as the surrounding. It takes your breath away when seeing it from the road. The lake is wonderful and I have a room with view over the lack, I was enchanted. The rooms needs some upgrading. The food was really good.

I read reviews from fellow trip advisor contributors and I think they get it right. Depending on what you expect the place will either get a 1 or a 4 star....this is old style France, you get to like it eventually. As you read in other reviews, the recently repainted Chateau simply looks stunning. the drive from the motorway to the chateau would have already prepared you for something rural and genuine. As you walk in, it is true that both the quality of the welcome (non-existent) or the rooms (big but very dated - some have been redone but still look dated) will make you feel that the 120-200 euros price tag is anything but a bargain. But once you go past that first impression and you take a step back from it all, you will like the food, the old-style service at the restaurant, the squeaky parquet floors and the very beautiful parc all around. Take it easy is my advice and step back in time. It is a relaxing retreat. In fact it is our 3rd time there.
