“Lovely country house outside of Dozza in Emilia Romagna”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2014 for a stay in May 2014

This is a lovely place, the photos are accurate, the place is clean and well-maintained and has everything you need for a vacation. It is close to the autostrada as well as a train station and perfect for day trips (need a car here). Franco, the owner, lives on the property and is consistently around for help and good advice. Dozza is very near by and is a charming town with good restaurants.

“Well-equipped apartment in beautiful countryside just outside quaint town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 October 2013 for a stay in October 2013

We spent five days in October and were very pleased with the apartment. Franco was very welcoming and pleasant, and provided good information about nearby restaurants and outings (as well as a bottle of wine in fridge). It's a quiet, rural setting and the apartment was not fancy, but the kitchen was complete and there is even a washing machine for laundry (as well as a dishwasher, which we didn't use). The town is about a km. away, and has a very interesting "Rocca" (fortress) from medieval times and at least four good restaurants, fairly reasonably priced. We loved being outside the big city of Bologna. We had a car, which I'd recommend, but there is a local bus stop. We used this for a home base while visiting Ravenna and Padua as well as Bologna.

“Everything done right”

We stayed in Apartment Antonio and found it excellent in all respects. The old character of the villa has been maintained, and marries well with the mod cons which are of high quality. Everything is super clean including a lovely well maintained outdoor area which is huge. Franco has down everything right and is very friendly and helpful. A car is a good idea as the taxi has to come from Imola and they change you for the trip to Dozza and then the cost of the fare. (Around 20 euros). We had a great 5 days.

“Best apartment holiday venue ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2013 for a stay in August 2013

This is such a great little place. Pre arrival arrangements excellent and great reception from Franco on arrival with local bottle of wine in fridge (most welcome). The apartments are first rate and so well equipped in all areas. It is the perfect place for a self catering holiday in a region famous for the food.
We have just arrived and could not have been happier. Had to post this review immediately as we are so pleased with the venue.

“Owesom, cozy and welcoming”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 April 2013 for a stay in April 2013

We spent 4 nights in the self catering apartment. It's a beautiful old style renovated apartment that gives you the feel of a farm house. The kids where thrilled to feed the goats and ducks. The owner was attending and welcoming. It's a great location to tour central Italy. Fully equipped garden apartment and kitchen. We had all we needed for a comfortable stay. The beds are great and comfortable the rooms are large and specious.
Most recommended.

“Outstanding Italian experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 March 2013 for a stay in November 2011

We didn't want to leave! The cooking class and shared meal at Villa Calanco are must-dos. Although a car is recommended to travel to this quiet countryside location, commuting by train to Bologna and Reggio Emilia was easy.

The accommodation was of a very high standard and the hospitality of the family was outstanding. We stayed in a two bedroom apartment, as our party comprised my husband and myself as well as a friend. The apartment was well-appointed and tastefully decorated.

“Perfect location, apartments and hosts!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 March 2013 for a stay in February 2013

Our stay at Villa Calanco was far too short! We only stayed 4 nights this trip. This was unavoidable unfortunately and we will return in the future.
Franco and Teresa have done an amazing job of restoring a long held family property.
The apartments are very comfortable and decorated in a traditional Italian style.
The location is not only picture perfect but was also ideal for my daughters, mother and I who are passionate about Italian food. The Emilia Romagna region is our food heaven! Bologna, Modena and Parma are all an easy drive away.
The village of Dozza is beautiful and an easy walk from the Villa but we only had time to explore there one morning and didn't have the chance to try the restaurants. We did visit the bakery and bought some lovely bread for breakfast.
We took the opportunity to do a cooking lesson with Teresa and Antonio. While we were already quite well practiced in pasta making, it was wonderful to have your abilities confirmed by a master but I am humbled by their hand rolling of the pasta! I will attempt it one day Teresa! Making piadina was new to me and I will be trying it at home this week. What I loved the most was the conversation during and dining with the family afterwards, a great cultural experience, that's what travelling is all about!!
I whole heartedly recommend Villa Calanco. Great accommodations, beautiful location and such a lovely family.
