excellent place in a wonderful surroundings. Staff very helpful and the place is very beautiful. Good value for money. Too many mirrors but I'm ugly so biased. Food was superb.

Requesting 200 characters would put me off reviews but not the hotel

Room Tip: try and get the balcony side for the view although it is rural all round

Very friendly staff , good restaurant and luxurious breakfast. Very quiet hotel and a superb view on the top of the Kemmelberg. Free WiFi that worked very well.
Room is rather small and should be updated, but the bed was very good.

Situated on the top of a hill Hostellerie Kemmel is a gem of a hotel with excellent and friendly staff. We treated ourselves to a junior suite for two nights, this included; a spa bath, walk in shower, his and her sinks etc, a large comfortable modern room with views stretching across the Flanders Plain. The buffet breakfast was superb.. Do be aware that reserving a table in the restaurant for dinner is highly recommended. We enquired about reserving a table at around 6.45pm on a Tuesday but the last table had just been booked, the restaurants in the local town don't open on a Tue! and a drive out to Ypres was required... We plan to return.

Plus points:
- Very friendly waiter
- Very nice breakfast, very extensive
- We did not eat in the restaurant, but it looked very good!
- Clean room with lovely views of the valley

downsides:
- Room is outdated and should be urgently updated, is still processed an old radio that no longer plays in the nightstand.
- Because we did not know that pets are allowed, we were shocked that there are large dogs allowed inside, and this in to rooms with wall to wall carpeting.
- Very small bathroom

In short: an ideal stopover, and if they update the rooms and would no longer allow dogs, we would even want to take a week's vacation.

Room Tip: take a room with views of the valley

This is a small hotel, almost a restaurant with rooms, on one of the highest points in Flanders with views across the Flanders Plain.

It's a family owned hotel, high levels of personal service, and a very good restaurant. This is just as well as it's too far to walk to another restaurant. This is just the place to go for a quite retreat where you can sit on the terrace in the evening and drive out to 'the sights' during the day.

It is 10Km from Ypres, close to Poperinghe, and within an easy drive of most of the battle fields and war graves of the first world war.

Wi-Fi is free, the wine list is extensive, and it's far enough into the countryside to be utterly silent at night, except, of course, for the owls.

Steps up to the front door, but level access throughout within the hotel. Good car parking.

Room Tip: No advice, top floor maybe. Ask is the best advice.
