The Barrett family have been coming annually to Glaschoile for the last 20 years. From the moment you step on the Western Isles ferry from Mallaig you feel totally relaxed. It is truly a magical place. The house is very comfortable. Aga in the kitchen, log fire with endless wood supply to sit around playing board games and cards, drinking a dram. Loads of hot water to soak in baths after a long days walking. The children spend hours on the beach whilst the adults sit on the lawn eating afternoon tea. I would highly recommend Glaschoile to anyone who loves to chill with friends and family and who want to escape the hustle and stress of every day life.
Spent 2 lovely holidays at this warm and comfortable lodge in an unsurpassed location on Knoydart. We enjoyed the plentiful hot water, cosy kitchen and elegant sitting room with an open fire. It is perfect for any watersport enthusiast - we loved kayaking along the shoreline, although some of us relished a more challenging windsurfing expedition. There are also excellent opportunities for gathering all kinds of shellfish at low tide. Brilliant fun biking along the (almost) car-free road towards the Sound of Sleat and Skye. Spectacular!
We have been to Glaschoille at various times of year, and it is always different and beautiful. The house has plenty of character. There is the stuffed head of a stag in the stairwell, and oil paintings of the family ancestors, and masses of other interesting things on the walls, and lots of books, some of which are relevant to Knoydart, and several board games to play. There is a huge kitchen with a lovely warm rayburn, and a big living room with an open fire and unlimited supplies of firewood, as well as the dining room - also large. The setting is absolutely fantastic. You can look out of the kitchen window and see seals in the sea outside,
Our group of friends had a lovely week doing all sort of different activities (munro bashing, boat trips or gentle strolls for example) on the Knoydart peninsula and meeting up in the evening for dinner. We used Bridget on Knoydart to supply one or two meals, we cooked our own on other nights and we went to the restaurant at Doune on one night. So a variety of culinary experiences.
The house lends itself to a group of friends or a large family staying and if the weather and midges allows you can enjoy sitting outside, eating, drinking and watching the boats and the world going by!
