We only managed to stay one night

The only room available was a Corner Suite which was huge and expensive. Expensive in relation to what you get. The suite is not badly designed but what was striking was how badly it needs to be refurbished. The floor needs to be resurfaced - this is so 90s... the bathroom needs to be refitted ... again so 90s... not what you get for the same price in newer properties. How long can this property live on its laurels before it becomes its wreaths?

The public areas are fantastic. The proper has muttered beautifully. Service is outstanding. Food is average

Its the rooms... they need to be made anew!

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished one

Perfect location. Had a lovely time here on our 10th anniversary it was an idyllic and a very romantic location. The staff are a credit to the hotel they really make you feel welcome and address you personally each time...how do you rememeber all our names :). food was of a very high standard, was soooo delicious. I've never rated a hotel but felt that I had to for the datai as it was just AMAZING! Osman the resident nature guy was very informative and I was in awe of his knowledge of the rainforest..I learnt loads on our night and day tour. It was a great rainforest re-treat and I definetly had the best time in this secluded taste of paradise on earth. Thank you again for a gorgeous holiday!!

We have just stayed here. What can we say? Fantastic service. The people make the whole trip. Beautiful secluded beach, lovely villa but overall it is the warmth of the welcome that stays with you. The staff clearly love what they do and it shows. Being with them is not like staying in your average hotel. There is no indifference here. If you want fantastic food, a relaxed holiday and somewhere that you feel looked after and welcome you cannot go past the Datai in Langkawi.

Room Tip: Choose a villa. Totally worth it. You feel like you are in your own private world.

If you’ve read the hotel’s official website, everything it says is true.

There are rooms in the central building and there are villas peppered across the surrounding rainforest. If you get a beach villa, you’ll be delightfully sandwiched between Datai Bay (Andaman Sea) in front and rainforest behind. If not a beach villa, you could still be walking distance (a minute or two) from the beach; some villas even have private Jacuzzi pools. Otherwise, just call the bell desk for a buggy that’ll transport you to the beach, to the main reception lobby, to the restaurants…..and I’m sure they’ll even send one for a quick round of the rainforest within which the resort nestles. Staying in one of the villas is a true rainforest experience.

The service of course is magnificent.

They have four or five dining options in addition to room service but the Gulai House (for Malaysian and Indian cuisine) is a must try.

There’s an on-call naturalist who really knows his stuff and its worth taking time off to go for a morning or evening walk with him. They’ll also organise your excursions; the two that are really worth trying are the Langkawi cable car and the Mangroves tour.

...the perfect rainforest retreat.

Room Tip: Get a villa with a pool and a quick walk away from the beach
