Quirky, charming place close to Grosmont station. Arty mix of vintage and new decor, sofas and chairs for sale. Helpful and friendly staff, good old Northern charm.Well worth the visit!

“Freshly made with fresh ingredients, combined with the skill of an alchemist!”
Reviewed 18 September 2012

Having discovered that the bistro section of this delightful gallery had been taken over by a rare being - someone who is passionate about food, can really cook, believes in using fresh ingredients and preparing them in a healthful manner, but with great flavours - we decided to visit on a "quiet Monday".
Obviously, the word has got around and we were one of the last to hear about this great place! Despite the place being full, Jane (who appears to prepare food with an almost yogic calm) soon delivered a plate of steaming risotto for my husband (beautifully garnished with a generous portion of home-made coleslaw and a salad with a sizeable pot of Parmesan cheese) and my amazing sandwich, likewise garnished.
You are able to design your own sandwich from a huge list of ingredients and mine consisted of falafel, avocado and hummus on wholemeal but I was also tempted by the fantastic looking pie - aubergine, squash and black-eyed beans (for those who like meat, there was a corned beef and potato) and feta cheese and vegetable quiche.
Feeling truly fortified, we then embarked upon the Rail-trail Walk to Goathland, but could not resist calling in for coffee and cakes upon our return. I had orange and ginger and my husband had fresh fig. Absolutely wonderful! Believing I make pretty good cakes myself, I am very critical of cakes and confess that I rarely rave about bought ones, but these proved the exception. Obviously made with good quality ingredients, they were light and delicious and good value for the obvious high quality.
If you want well-flavoured food, made with a passion, using quality ingredients, great value for money and maybe something a little different - beat a track to The Geall Gallery poste haste!

“Marvellous food, marvellous art”
Reviewed 28 August 2012

We chose to visit on a rainy day, and had been meaning to visit for some time. The artwork on display is fantastic and we spent a long time viewing the work, mostly of local landscapes and scenes. The cafe is relaxing, light and airy and there is plenty of room even for our pushchair. Our baby son was fascinated by the colourful artwork on display. The interior is lovely with mis-matched vintage furniture, and we found a clean high chair for baby. We chose tea and a scone and a mocha coffee. The scone was divine - home made with olives and feta cheese, with a sliver of real butter. Tea and coffee were super. Service was excellent and we were amazed at having change from £5! A lovely spot, we will definitely be calling in for lunch, as the sandwiches looked lovely, and baby was well entertained. We bought some postcards of the artworks on display and will be back for more.
