“Excellent Hotel in an Excellent Resort Town”
Reviewed 6 October 2013 via mobile

Its our first time to the spa/health resort town of Bad Goegging, which is just an hour's drive from Munich. We stayed for 2 nights at the Monarch Hotel. Its a huge hotel with its own convention center and many conference rooms, although the hotel was full of vacationers. The reception and service personnel were very efficient and friendly, there was a big Spa, but my son and I just opted for the heated indoor pool. The room was comfortable and well furnished. Our dinner-buffet and breakfast-buffet was in a huge restaurant - actually 2 big adjoining restaurants, the ambience was good as it was very roomy, sunny, airy, and the furnishings classic and comfortable. Buffet boards were on both flanks of the restaurants so there was minimal queing. Next day we went to the Thermal Bath in Bad Goegging, which was only 200 meters away. We had dinner in one of the restaurants nearby. Parking was free c/o the hotel in a big parking place a short walk away, so we opted to park in the limited parking area within the hotel for a minimal charge. The hotel had so charming and lovely bars, although we didnt have the chance to try them. When we checked out on our third day, we headed to Kloster Weltenburg by the Danube, the oldest Monastery in Bavaria, with the oldest Monastery-brewed beer in Germany. We also managed to see the Befrieungshalle in Kelheim, a massive museum on top of a hill giving the best view of the sorrounding town. We had earlier seen the old church and Roman museum in Bad Goegging. There were many more things to see and do in this region of Altmuehltal along the Danube, so we plan to come back and stay at Hotel Monarch once more.

My family and I were in the region for a wedding. Due to a technical problem in the hotel where we originally were booked in, we decided to change our accommodation. By chance we found this very beautiful hotel that was able to accommodate us as a walk-in around midnight. The hotel is obviously a conference hotel but numerous leisure guests enjoyed the facilities during the weekend. Room rates are lower during the weekend. Night-shift staff was helpful and very kind however management should consider additional training in order to enable staff to give information on rooms and room rates more effectively. The hotel itself as well as the rooms are very beautiful. If you come from a non-Euro country, remember to get your Euros before you get there. The hotel adds a 15% transaction charge when changing foreign currency. There is no free wi-fi. Prepaid Internet cards can be purchased at 7 Euros a day.
Wi-fi not very fast. No minibar in the room and bar closes quite early. No 24-hour room service. You may purchase beer and soft drinks at a distributor on another floor. There are endless hallways and unfortunately no in-house phones to call reception to ask any questions. If not in the room your obliged to walk miles and miles to the reception or call them with your private cell phone. For us, as a traveling family, mentioned points were not a problem. It would still have been a pleasure to enjoy a cold beer at a nice bar after a long day driving, instead of having one from a machine like at a gas pump/canteen/gym etc. But as I said, we've liked the hotel, the people were nice and we wouldn't hesitate to going back there. It's a four-star superior hotel with the potential of an excellent five-star hotel (after some slight improvements).

I stayed here in February for a conference. The hotel staff were very friendly and the facilites excellent. My room was well appointed and most comfortable. The food was very good (buffet) taking into consideration the numbers being catered for.
I can recommend this hotel for both business and pleasure - the leisure facilities are also very good although I had little time to enjoy them.

Room Tip: I can imagine that when travelling privately one would not want to visit when a large conference is...

This is truly an excellent hotel - staff, rooms, food -everything about this hotel is outstanding. It is also a great place to relax. Quiet and lot of places to go walking, but at the same time there is easy access to get to bigger ciites. This hotel is now on my list for future visits.

Room Tip: Rooms are big with good sleeping beds.

I discovered this hotel by mistake - when my flight got cancelled and Lufthansa booked me in here. And was quite impressed: apart from the fact that the hotel is far away from the Munich airport, the hotel experience was very good, with enjoyable meals (buffee). The room was very big, we even had a sofa, a big desk and plenty of room around the double bed. The bathroom was also nice and clean, pretty big - and utilated appropriately.
I particularly enjoyed the breakfast buffee, where I could find pretty much everything one could wish for at breakfast time - and also the kindness of the service staff was noticeable.
Good value for the money; the hotel is accessible by car, wouldn't recommend relying on public transportation (if any).

Room Tip: choose a room with balcony

I stayed for a week at The Monarch while attending a conference. The bedroom was very comfortable, even if the furniture was a little dated, and many of the rooms have balconies. There is a flat screen television in each room and there is also a desk, and a spacious area with a couch and coffee table which I found to be a good area to do work in.

While I enjoyed my stay here overall, there were a few things that could have been improved. The single room I stayed in had a shower but no bath. I also found the pillow on the bed to be extremely uncomfortable and flat, and when I went to reception to ask for a second pillow, they told me that they had none spare! WIFI internet access was also very expensive. It was about €20 for ten hours of access, or about €35 for unlimited access for 30 days. I thought there should have been a better deal on internet access for conference attendees at least! And although there is one computer in the hotel lobby that has free internet access, it is often busy! Finally, the rooms keys are big and bulky - perhaps swipe card room keys would be better!

The food in the restaurant (served as a buffet) was very nice though, especially the delicious mousses for dessert! The spa area was also great, with an outdoor pool as well as an indoor pool with bubbles and massage jets.

While Bad Gogging is a very quiet place, there are many walking/running/cycling trails surrounding the village, and the countryside in the area is very pretty! The Monarch is also situated right next door to the "Limes-Thermes" Roman baths, which seem to be worth a visit!

I would recommend The Monarch hotel as a conference destination or as somewhere to use as a base for exploring the surrounding area. The hotel is comfortable, the staff are excellent and the food is delicious!

Room Tip: Rooms on the 2nd floor are on the same floor as the conference centre and restaurants, which is very...

I have been in Monarch in January 2012. the Hotel is really big, probably too much. You can get lost in rstaurants that are also corridors to get to the rooms. Rooms have really strange forniture. a little bit old, but also not beautiful. Internet is not included, you need to pay additional service for that. Bathroom is a little bit little, towels and soap are not enough.
