Description: The Boathouse Restaurant is located on the picturesque Kingairloch Estate, about an hours drive from Fort William. Menus feature produce grown in the estate's walled garden, seafood from local waters and wild venison from the surrounding mountains. It is a perfect place for visiting yachts in the area as there are free moorings. It is advisable to book ahead as the restaurant is an intimate dining experience. Open seasonally, so check opening times.

We popped into the Boathouse for lunch one day whilst staying in one of the cottages on the Kingairloch estate. The Boathouse is lovely, quite small but nicely decorated and with a verandah overlooking the loch. The setting itself is simply stunning, with the drive along the single track road from civilisation quite an experience. The menu is fairly limited but augmented by daily specials on the blackboard. We opted for crab cocktail (£8) and cauliflower soup (£5), followed by saddle of venison (£18) and scallops (£20). Both courses were absolutely lovely. Dessert choice was gooseberry panacotta and home made ice cream - whilst the panacotta was very agreeable with my partner, I felt the ice cram could have benefited from more flavouring.

So overall, the food was absolutely lovely. We just wish the portion size was bigger and the menu a little cheaper to justify more then one visit during our holiday.

It's a bit out of the way, but getting there is half the experience! I had a venison Sunday roast and my wife had blackened cod, while gazing out over the loch. The food was fantastic, perfectly cooked, and the atmosphere was very welcoming after the drive. After lunch we went for a walk around the beautiful estate. If you have the chance while in the area you should definitely check this place out - just be sure to make a reservation as they don't have many tables and it's rightly very popular!

This is a really rather good little restaurant - it is a little out of the way, so you do have to try to get there. However, it is worth the effort. We had lunch here on a sunny but blustery day, so were confined to indoors. The food it of very good quality, locally grown/sourced and cooked very well. The saddle of venison and scallops were both great dishes, and the kids were all catered for with half portions/sauces left out, so everyone was very happy. The service was attentive and friendly. Very much recommended - but beware, as others have noted, only open Thursday to Sunday.
