Reviewed 11 August 2013

Hotel Vauban is a basic 2-star hotel with a good price/quality ratio. The hotel has an authentic feel to it.
For around 45 euro we got a small room with garden view. The window made for a breezy room. Although all is very quiet at night in Camaret, you have to be a bit lucky with your neighbours as the walls are quite thin.
The room was clean and serviced well every day. Staff is very friendly.
The hotel is located at the end of the bay, on the dead-end part, which is the quietest part of the bay traffic wise.
Front rooms have a view on the harbour as does the restaurant terrace. So a nice place to enjoy breakfast in the morning sun. We enjoyed several diners in the restaurant and this, too, is good value. Nice sea food dishes.

One very annoying thing is the fact that every time you want to use the wifi you have to go through the logon process. It does not remember you've used it before. On top that, wifi is slow and the connection gets lost regularly.

We have just enjoyed two nights demi-pension at the Hotel Vauban in Camaret-sur-mer. The hotel is well placed at the end of the promenade overlooking the marina and the dyke out towards the Vauban tower - well worth going for the sea views as we slept with the windows wide open to enjoy the sea breeze and clear blue sky in the mornings. The seafood biased restaurant was packed every night and our fish and shellfish meals were excellent. The free WiFi was a bit slow but useable. The rear car park can only take 4-5 cars and we had to park in the municipal car park where someone tried to steal one of our MTBs from the rear-mounted rack - fortunately we had enough chains and locks. C-S-M is a great base for the excellent MTB VTT routes in the Finistere peninsula.

Room Tip: Go for the sea views..

Hotel Vauban provides basic clean accommodation at a good price. The bonus is the view if you secure a room overlooking the harbour. Simple but adequate breakfast. Our hostess was charming and friendly. The hotel also provides for a secured parking area for your vehicle.
We had booked for two nights but left after one, not because of the hotel, but because the town itself lacked charm. Too many pubs catering to the young English drinkers.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view over the harbour when booking.

We stayed here after reading the Trip Advisor reviews and in the main I agree with them. This is a two star hotel - no question of that. The rooms are basic, the bathrooms small, the facilities limited, the breakfast is minimal. Several drunken guests returning from the pub tried to get into our room which was at the top of the stairs, the noise does travel, we didnt have a good nights sleep. The service and welcome was wonderful. The owner is very friendly and chatted away to us. The parking is free and secure. The view across the harbour is one of the best. If you are on a budget this is a cheap and friendly place to stay. Free WIFI too!

Camaret is a lovely little fishing town and remarkably unspoiled. The Hotel Vauban is almost at the end of the seafront, so benefits from a great view across the harbour while being a little more secluded than further along the road. You can't park outside the front, but carry on past, put your car in the free car park a bit further down, check in and the very nice owners will show you how to get to the car park round the back.
The rooms are pretty small and very simple and it has to be said that the bathroom could hardly be much smaller and still be functional without a re-write of the laws of physics. But a) the room is clean; b) the bed was exceptionally comfortable; c) a posh room is not what it's about anyway - it's all about the view. Get a sea view and you won't be looking at the room very much.
There is some noise intrusion from the cafe below, but it's not loud, thumpy music and it stopped at a very reasonable hour (and we were there Friday and Saturday). There's also the inevitable sound of the odd door banging. But I am hyper-sensitive to noise at night and had no problem getting a good night's sleep.
Breakfast is an extra 6.50 Eur and was....OK. Not much choice: orange juice, rolls and croissants, two types of jam, kiwi fruit, tea/coffee...that's it. It was fine.
But the price of rooms is very reasonable indeed and the best deal of all is demi-pension: for an extra 19 Eur, you get breakfast and a three course set dinner. Again, no choice, but we weren't complaining: a whole crab to start; beef with a judicious selection of nicely cooked veg; fuit salad to finish - all enjoyed with a fine sea view.
There are probably fancier places, but this one is honest, unpretentious and good value. Recommended.

Room Tip: Definitely pay a few Euros more for a sea-facing view.

a simple, very friendly hotel with plain rooms, great view over the harbor. They now have a website www.hotelvauban-camaret.fr and e-mail: contact@hotelvauban-camaret.fr. Their prices (like all French hotels) are plainly posted at the entrance to the hotel. Free parking is around back. No reservations needed in the shoulder season. Great seaside walks on the Crozon peninsula and a small grocery store just down the block along with usual boulongeries and cafes. Their restaurant was closed in October except for breakfast a reasonable 6.50 euros.
