“Great location, lovely walk into Kaiteri”
Reviewed 21 December 2011

Not cheap, but good rooms with balconies and facilities. The walk into town is great (lots of steps!). This is a wonderful base to take a water taxi and have a tramp in the Able Tasman Park - my favourite place. Ever.

We stayed here 2 nights on our tour, having been offered a box in the centre of kaiteriteri this huge high ceilinged room was a nice surprise, though at 180 dollars a night it should be ! The sea view was a bit distant but a very pleasant outlook nonetheless. The space was very nicely presented with a full hob in the well equipped kitchen area and a washing machine. The bathroom was large with a great shower. It is just a 5 minute stroll to the lovely beach with a shorcut through to the main part of the town to catch the boats etc.
Maybe a little pricey, but very nice.

We stayed here for the second time in 9 years, and found it had been taken over by the adult children of the previous owners. They had worked hard to continue the excellent service we experienced last time. We used this accommodation for 2 weeks during the height of the summer season, to enable us to walk the Abel Tasman Way. The small town of Kaiteriteri was very busy but the motel had good free parking and was quiet during the day and night.

The only issue we had was the price of the wifi internet provided by a third party. As we had been away for over 2 months we used skype regularly to keep in touch with elderly parents and grand children. Skype is free to use, but the service provider charged per Mb used, and this meant we ended up with a very heavy internet bill after 2 weeks.

There are few restaurants in the immediate neighbourhood so be prepared to either self cater or eat in the local tavern.

We had such a wonderful stay at this motel. The hosts were friendly but not imposing and the units are really quite wonderful. They are really well appointed with lovely gardens and our unit had a great balcony with a sea view. Superb.
We would definitely love to come back here to this slice of paradise.

We stayed at the Torlesse Motel at Christmas time. Given local holidays it was difficult to find an accomodation. The Motel is just 5min from the lovely beach of little Kaiteriteri, which is perfect for swimming and sunbathing. The neighbouring beach can be reached via a short walk and you can catch boats and tours to Able Tasman from there.
The motel rooms were a little old and a bit dark. Its all a big room with a bed and a sitting table on the side. You can also sit on the terrace but quite narrow and not great for eating outdoors. For a couple of days it was alright.
Pls. be aware that restaurants are closed on Christmas Eve, however most shops and restos open on 26 Dec.

On a positive note the motel is in a great location and the rooms are of a good size and have lovely views. However, we felt that the rooms were in need of redecoration and modernisation especially the bathroom and the kitchen area. Paying $170 per night you expect a certain standard of accomodation and perhaps a bit of luxury, but you do not get that here. Definitely over priced.

Very rarely do I write a bad review but we found this place very disappointing. The host was most unwelcoming bordering on being rude. We found the units to be very overpriced. We stayed one night then transferred to the spa resort Kimi Ora. We paid less there for a superb room, gorgeous surroundings - with top rate swimming pools -and a delicious breakfast included. We were also made welcome, went for 2 nights and stayed for 6. No comparison!
