As a local I tend to avoid Kaiteriteri Beach in the busy (summer) season. It has a lot of cars, people, boats, and water taxi boats coming and going. BUT the setting is divine....golden golden unbelievable golden sands, blue skies, great swimming (stay out of the boat lanes, though). The windy road there is being upgraded, so there are a few roadworks, but a wonderful cycle path is being built too. It is very close to Abel Tasman national Park and a good place to take a boat ride (taxi) to the park. The boats go right to the beach so you walk on and off.
