“Brian and Anthea are vert knowledgeable”
Reviewed 22 March 2014

Bellbird Lodge is a beautiful place for a couple to stay. During our three night stay, our hosts Brian and Anthea told us things to do that we'd never have known about, including seeing 15 or so seal pups at low tie at Wharariki Beach.

Anthea's cooking and service was exceptional.

Room Tip: Try to get the room with a spa bath!

We have spent 3 nights at the Bellbird lodge and Brian and Anthea are truly very impressive hosts. They have raised the bar on b&b hospitality and have become now our measuring stick when comparing others!

We had the Rosewood suite which has a lovely cozy powder room where you can linger on the sofa with a book and tea. Bathroom has a spa and the beds are really lovely to sleep in.

Every night at 6.30PM they offer a drink with nibbles on the sun terrace.
Breakfast is also a real treat with every day a different hot breakfast offering or a continental version with homemade muesli, bread, croissant, marmelade,...

After a long day in the car, we made our way up a winding road to a magical place that gradually came into view. Bellbird Lodge was the first of nine Bed and Breakfasts we stayed in on the South Island. Although we liked each one, the first was easily our favorite. One expects a lot if the word "luxury" is used. And Brian and Anthea Harvey went so far above and beyond that i cannot think of enough superlatives. After showing us our lovely suite, i noticed the bedding and window treatments and how elegantly unique they were. Yes, Anthea made them. One of her earlier careers was a costume designer and seamstress in England. It is impossible to miss her love of flowers - they are everywhere.
Wait until you sample the special treats placed on your pillow at bedtime. And breakfast is first displayed attractively as a buffet followed by a special hot dish created by Anthea and served by Brian.
Their home has so many special touches, you must go there and see for yourself.
i am not overselling this property. It is really above five stars!!

Room Tip: There are two large suites. You can't go wrong with either.

My wife and I enjoyed our first two days of our honeymoon at Bellbird Lodge, and truthfully it was the best of our 3 week adventure! The level of comfort, the personal service and care, the incredible room, the magnificent surrounding views, the proximity to everything in Abel Tasman, their knowledge of the area and NZ, the most incredible breakfast and afternoon snacks you could EVER imagine, is just a taste of what you will find at Bellbird Lodge with Brian and Anthea! Our friends stayed at Bellbird the year before, and said we had to as well. It was by far the best recommendation, we got the whole trip. If you are planning on visiting the general area, there is no better place to stay!!!

A fabulous B&B, great views, homemade food and lovely attentive Anthea and Brian.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 3day stay and would recommend it to anyone. It's close to the beaches at Kaiteriteri and just ' over the hill' from Golden Bay. Special !

Anthea and Brian have put a lot of thought into making this into what is undoubtedly one of the best places to stay in New Zealand. Helpful, kindly, considerate and thoughtful is just the start. Great breakfast Anthea and thanks for the picnic lunch on the day you arranged the water taxi for us to go walking in the Abel Tasman national park. Just as good as it gets. That is if you can get a booking. Have a great season at Bellbird Lodge.

We had a wonderful stay at Bellbird Lodge! It was my first night in New Zealand after a 40-hour-flight, and it was so relaxing that the next morning I felt like having spent two weeks of holiday already. A very warm Welcome, a very nicely decorated very tidy room, a nice and clean bathroom with homemade soap, and certainly the best breakfast available in New Zealand!!! Anthea and Brian are such lovely hosts, and soooooo helpful. House, garden and terrace are amazing. We highly recommend this little paradise to anyone seeking something special.
