“No High Standards at High Post...”
Reviewed 15 September 2009

I stayed here for one night with a party of 18. On arrival the "manager" handed our keys to another guest in our party so that they could show them where our room was situated. The manager seemed totally disinterested - no welcome, no information about the hotel...no communication at all. (He spent most of the day sitting at the bar). He wouldn't have had a clue which guests were in which rooms as the keys for the party were just left in a bundle with no records kept as to the occupants.
Our room was on the first floor. It was clean(ish) but they seem to like to keep their spiders in full time occupation. The room looked out to fields on one side and an ugly patio area on the other side. The window in the bathroom looked out to the "patio" - we didn't use the shower as we did not want to display our all and sundries to anyone sad enough to want to sit out there.
The whole place is tired and unwelcoming. It does have a huge (mostly empty) car park.
On the plus side and a saving grace, the buffet food and breakfast tasted fresh and was enjoyable.

Really a pretty grim, grimey and uninspiring place. Needs completely gutting and rethinking. The service is not totally unfriendly but hardly professional (is it usually such a surprise to be asked for tea and toast with your breakfast?) Decor is hideous and just a mish mash of odds and ends, every light in our room was broken (we had one small bedside light on an extension lead) shower was useless, bathroom looked 25-30 years old. Breakfast wasn't too bad, to be fair, but this place is really ugly and the atmosphere is just odd. When you consider it's more expensive than a Travel Inn which might be dull but they are clean and everything works........

We were meant to be staying at Travelodge but no water in room when we arrived so we were sent to this place. On the plus side, we got a good breakfast at no charge and I thought the staff were nice enough. The 2 rooms we had though were terrible, they absolutely stank, there were hairs on the tea tray and there were spiders and cobwebs. The worst thing was there were no curtains or blinds up at the windows in the above-bath showers in both rooms. One looked out onto the outdoor smoking area so that when my husband was showering someone knocked on the window and shouted general banter as you can imagine. In the room I shared with my daughter the window looked out into some sort of staff corridor, very odd. We did not use the shower! Avoid rooms 305 & 306!!!

When we couldn't find a hotel closer to Stonehenge, we opted for this one. Access to the wing with our room involved carting our luggage through the restaurant and past several freezers.

There was an odd odor in the room which they attempted to mask with some sort of deodorizer. The carpets were very old and it might have been some sort of mustiness related to the carpet.

Fixtures were dated, but the room was clean. The bath/shower worked fine.

Morning breakfast was OK. They offered items cooked to order and also had breads, cereals, etc.

As others have noted, this was probably a nice hotel in the 70s or 80s. There hasn't been a lot of upkeep since.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The price was reasnoable.

Urm .... slightly strange Hotel. Was probably Ok when it was first built.
Reception service was somewhat stern.

Told resturant was closed although we'd rung ahead to check.

Room large but had no hot water ... water pressure too low for it to reach the shower head.

Breakfast (Good) at last we'd found something, just as we were leaving.

I won't be returning .... No Thanks.

I've just looked at some of the reviews and can't believe it's still in the same state as when we went in 2006.
The room was on the ground floor, was dated, smelly and unpleasant.
The food was actually quite nice on the Friday night, but on the Saturday night we only had the same choice as the night before (2 main courses) and it must have been the cooks night off because it didn't look anything like the previous nights food.
Breakfasts were pretty good.
The pool was ok but really dated and the gym area was all a bit spit and sawdust.
Luckily it was very handy for Salidbury so we didn't have to spend too much time there.

I've stayed here before (re article : better than travel lodge) and once again made a quick stop on my way over and back from Cornwall. Just wanted to add that the rooms on the first floor are by far superior to the ground floor ones. All rooms on the ground floor basically smell musty/damp etc... and you can't leave your window open to clear the smell as the windows are only "knee high" and anyone could climb through. Avoid these rooms if poss. However I requested a room upstairs on my way back and it was fine (even got a queen size bed at the same price)...no bad smells and no damp on the walls. Must add that there is a new owner and am told (by charming barmaid) that he intends to redecorate and refurbish all rooms in due course....watch this space......
