“Brilliant- Lovely staff, Great food and Lovely rooms”
Reviewed 15 February 2013

I came to the Limes to see some of the live entertainment that they have every month, It was fantastic! I had met some friends who I hadn't seen since school for a nice upmarket meal! I have to say I was not disappointed! The presentation and flavours of the food were some of the best I have ever tasted outside of London. The staff were second to none and really attentive- For the business of the night all you had to do was get the attention and they were with you right away! We stayed in a few rooms each and have to say that they were also nice- Modern, airy and warm... For the price we paid I was pleased as the staff seemed really atttentive and considerate of the fact that we were guests staying there after a few too many glasses of wine. One fo the satff even speaks 8 languages! I shall definitley be returning to sample more of the food and great atmosphere that this beautiful country retreat not far from Birmingham!!
After reading some previous reviews I find it hard to believe- but looking at the date maybe this was due to them not being open long or they have looked at the comments and improved training? This is going on my list of hotels to return to :)) WELL DONE

Room Tip: Ask a member of staff for anything and they will always help! room 5 was lovely

We always like to try out new restaurants for Sunday lunch so this was an opportune occasion to see what was on the table as they say. One of my sons girlfriends has booked "The Limes" for her 30th Birthday in August so we thought we would give it a bash. Excellent to say the least. Good food, fine selection of vegetables and I imagine a wonderful place in the Summer, if we ever get another one.
David Morris, "the Governor" has a pride in the place and really gets involved. Rare in this day and age. Look forward to our next visit on the 10th Feb with friends where I might even give the piano a tinkling. Good friendly and efficient staff too. One small point. Cheese and bickies would be a welcome addition to the menu for lunch. Roll on Feb 10th. Lord BASNETT

I recently visited the hotel with friends for a "Live at The Limes" evening of live music & fine dining. We had a fabulous time! The food was superb, the entertainment was excellent, a tribute to Frank Sinatra. The entertainer had a brilliant voice & none of us needed much persuasion to get on the dance floor! I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for real value for money and excellent atmosphere. I am about to book up for one of their Chrismas Party Nights which will start my Christmas celebrations off a treat!

This is one of the very bad hotels out there, keep well away the wc and bathrooms are very poor on and not clean at all, keep well way the bar is only open 3 days Friday Saturday and Sunday rest of week you need to go out around 5 miles to get any food. You will not speep unless you like sleeping on the most uncomfortable bed ever.

Room Tip: have stayed in more than one of the rooms and have found the all the same all very poor on the clean...

I had my civil wedding service and wedding reception at the Limes Country Lodge in October 2012.

My experience is a bit mixed, so I shall try to give a fair and comprehensive review.

Firstly, the positives. The hotel grounds are lovely, and is by far the best thing about the Limes. The outside space is very large, and is well maintained. The licenced wedding lodge is great for having an "outside" civil wedding service. The outside Caribbean bar is really nice, with a good selection of drinks. The inside space is good: they used it as a multi-purpose space, so is not exactly "set-up" for weddings, but it was successfully rearranged for the wedding, and we spruced it up with our own decorations, and it was fine. The food was excellent: the wedding breakfast was very good, and plenty of it. Several of our guests said they liked the food. The house wine is ok, at £15 per bottle, and the beers were £3.50 a pint, which is resonable for a hotel bar. The house DJ, a guy called "Bob" did a cracking job, and everyone was up dancing at the end of the night. The hotel rooms are good, if a bit "tired".

Now for the negatives. The main issue we have with the Limes is their disorganized, amateurish and frankly shameful approach to organising our wedding. We had to constantly chase them for everything. We supposedly had a "wedding planner" to do the hard work for us, but they had three changes of staff within the one year between our booking and wedding, and didn't both to tell us, so each time we contacted them, we had to repeat what we wanted to the "new" person. They took ages to reply to e-mails and phone calls, and never seemed to have answers to basic questions, and generally made us feel like we were "harassing" them whenever we contacted them.

At the outset, they gave us a payment schedule, which they didn't seem to be bothered about! We had to pester them each time our money was due so we could pay them the next installment! It was as though they didn't care whether we paid them or not. Whenever we hinted to them that we would like "more contact" from them, they just said "don't worry, we run several weddings a week, it will be fine". They must have thought this would reassure us, but actually it made us feel like we were just "another function", and that they didn't appreciate our business. We did not feel "special" at all, even though it was our wedding.

The worst thing is that we had zero contact with them running up to the wedding. The day before our wedding we still hadn't had any proper contact from them, and had no idea what the order and timings of things were. This was the last straw, and we had to demand a meeting with the wedding planner on the afternoon before our wedding, which they grudgingly gave us. They acted like it was odd to want to speak to them the day before our wedding.

The other thing that was a bit annoying was the tendancy of the owner, a guy called David, to exaggerate and "spin" things. He is a nice enough fella, but definitely has the "gift of the gab", and he told us a few porkies to get out booking in the beginning. Several things turned out later to be not quite correct or true. He told us we could decorate the wedding room the night before, but actually they have a restaurant in that room, so could only set up the room on the morning of the wedding, which was a bit stressful. The first time we met him, he also told us the 8 hotel rooms were "included" in the wedding package (which we thought meant they were included in the total price of the wedding package). The first wedding planner "Michelle" then told us that Dave must have meant they were "reserverd" for the wedding party, as they definitely needed to be paid for seperately. Also, we were told that extras, like the table menus and the cake stand would be included, which were actually not, and we had to sort this out ourselves at the last minute.

In summary, our actual wedding day was great, and they delivered an excellent wedding reception. You can tell they do lots of weddings, because they are well rehersed and it went very smoothly. I can't fault the food, or the waiting staff, and the party afterwards was great. But the run up to the wedding was the most stressful thing I have ever had to do. Considering they are not "cheap", and that weddings are there main source of income, they really need to take them more seriously. Considering they were booked up every weekend of the 2012 wedding season, they really need to be more organised and less amateurish to deal with all this business.

If you do decide to book the Limes for your wedding, then make sure you are proactive and kick them up the backside.
