Even though there was a power black out, which meant no electricity and no water, it was charming and cute. The supermarket and restaurants had little candles lit, which made the small town of Santa Catalina even more cute. The water and electricity went on again after an hour, so that wasn´t really inconvenient, and no electricity gave us the opportunity to sit and relax on our balcony and be amazed by all the stars.
The supermarket is opened till late in the evening, and covers the basics: beer, water, sunscreen lotion and some other necessities one might need.
The town and its people were so friendly and welcoming. We had a great couple of days in Santa Catalina, with diving and snorkeling. Unfortunately, we didn´t had enough time and energy to go surfing too, but all together it was an unforgettable experience.
The hotel Santa Catalina inn was great! it is run by a very friendly couple, and a receptionist (sorry I forgot your names) that went out of her way to help. Calling the dive schools to see if there was availability to go on a dive the next day. Unfortunately they were fully booked, but she managed to arrange a very cool snorkeling trip, where we encountered a white tip reef shark and many other beautiful fish as well as coral reefs. The next day our luck turned and we could go diving too!
The room itself was charming and roomy, with a good sized bathroom, big shower with room to hang a wetsuit/swimming trunks etc., hot and cold water, air conditioning, ceiling fan, a big balcony, a good sized bed with a comfy mattress. It was simple, but everything was clean and more than enough. A big plus was that Santa Catalina inn was conveniently located within walking distance of everything. (dive schools, the beach, shops, the delicious french bakery and the restaurants.)
All restaurants in Santa Catalina, at least the ones we´ve been to, were very good. Delicious fresh food, nothing over pretentious, and fresh fish that tasted divine, freshly cleaned by the owner minutes before ending up on a plate.
The last night we ate in the restaurant of the hotel, a great and easy pizza place with great pizzas. There is nothing above a pizza, beer and the great company of the owners, receptionist and some other locals. We really enjoyed our stay, and we will definitely return to Santa Catalina inn next time! Thank you for our lovely stay!
