“FANTASTIC HOTEL in FANTASTIC LOCATION AN OASIS AWAY FROM THE HORDES”
Reviewed 22 December 2013

We had a short drive from Lucca to this area and arrived to find electronic gates at the top of the narrow coast road. Buzzed through to reception and the gates opened. We continued down a winding drive to the hotel right on a lovely cove beach with excellent views across the Gulf of Poets to Porto Venere. The setting is superb and the gated community of Fiascherino is lovely and friendly.
Check in was very smooth and we were shown around the hotel facilities which are better than Excellent. There is a very large and very clean swimming pool with plenty of poolside chairs and lots of lovely shade. On the beach there is a raised esplanade and we were shown the relaxing chairs that were ours for our stay. They were numbered for each guest and this certainly stops people placing towels on chairs very early in the morning to save a chair for later use. There are good tennis courts too. As this hotel is gated then usually only hotel guests are in the area at any time. The rooms are small but on the second floor they each have an external balcony with views over the sea and there is a communal sun terrace with lounge chairs and umbrellas.
There is a very quiet and calming atmosphere around the hotel and the guest areas are stylish in their furnishings and staff are very pleasant. We had two small double rooms right next to the sun terrace on the second floor. We sat and relaxed on the terrace and the views are just beautiful from this area too.
There are great walks from the hotel to the next coastal village (Tellaro) via stairs, well marked pathways and a safe road to walk on. The beach at the front of the hotel in a small cove is patrolled by a beach guard who also keeps the area clean. In the evenings we walked up the gated road to the top and ate at Hotel Cristallo. What a find for great food and dining. They provide a buffet style of home grown food where you can have 4 courses for 20 euro per person. The menu was different for each of the 2 nights and the diversity of the food and the food itself was excellent. It was an easy walk back after dark as the private roadway to the hotel was well lit.
The owners of Hotel Fiascherino are very good at creating the feeling of seclusion and privacy within their hotel even though you are walking distance to pretty villages and driving a few kilometres to Lerici and La Spezia. On two of the evenings we were there the hotel had a musical evening with lovely Italian music and a guest speaker talking about the books they had written. We found the hotel and the gated community a delight to experience and a world away from the many Italian beach areas with lines and lines of umbrellas and sunbeds.

Room Tip: Rooms are small but the view is better from the second floor and there is a lovely sun terrace.

The coast around here is characterised by hills sloping steeply into successions of small rocky bays. This hotel is basically in its own bay just along the coast from Lerici, so it has beautiful views across the Gulf of Poets (looking straight across at Portovenere), a small beach, shallow water as well as its own swimming pool.
Accessed by a sharp turn, switch-back single track road, it feels secluded before you get there.
The room was superb, with a shuttered window looking out onto the bay good for space, chairs and a small terraced area with table for sitting out. No tub but nice shower.
The staff spoke less English than in some hotels, but were very friendly and communication was no problem.
The hotel has a restaurant advertised in its own right, which was good (a little expensive perhaps), quiet (in early October) and with lovely views over the bay. Breakfasts in the dedicated breakfast room upstairs, where the view is even better - a good range on the buffet and good and friendly service.
We went in Early October and it was very quiet, there were literally dozens of sun loungers by the pool and on the terrace over the beach - all very clean, new and tidy. It was hard to image them all being full even in peak season. They have parking available, which is fairly rare in the area.
Also very much worth a visit is the other restaurant sharing the inlet (The Senatore), which is very much a family place and much recommended (their John Dory was probably our best meal of the holiday).
All in all, very much recommended for a relaxing time - swim in the sea (apparently you can hire boats, etc. in season, but we were happy to be able to swim comfortably in October), admire the view and let your worries go. The sun sets just past Portovenere, then the lights come on, lovely.

Room Tip: We had room 1, which was on the end and had a reasonable view of the sweep of the terrace, rooms fur...

Stayed here with our young family, got a room with sea view.. Staff were really friendly and so helpful, we really needed it after a long day of travel. Easy shuttle bus to Lerici which opens up Cinque Terre by boat. But the sound of the sea lapping on the shore at Fiascherino is more than enough
