Just returned from a 6 day break based at the Hotel Drago. Nice hotel, clean, decent rooms and staff all friendly most of whom spoke passable English, which was good as my Italian is very limited.
The location and views from the front of the Hotel were wonderful, but as we had a ground floor room in the annexe, there was some road noise from the traffic, especially the numerous motorbikes which seem to go past 24 hrs a day.
We had a half board package and food was plentiful and varied at breakfast, but an extra toaster in the dining room would help with queues of british tourists in the morning. Evening meal selection was fine with good soups and pasta dishes every evening, a selection of antipasta, salads and desserts. Main courses a little boring for my taste but if you are catering for varied nationalities and tastes this can only be expected.
One little niggle was the lack of A/C in the rooms, which appeared to be installed but not switched on in the guest rooms, this meant that on the days which were sunny the rooms were very warm and stayed that way well into the evening as if windows were opened, the traffic noise obviously became louder and made sleeping difficult.
But overall a good base for touring the area with easy access by foot to local villages and amenities, and by coach to Venice and Verona.

Room Tip: Front of Hotel rooms have good views over lake but are subject to road noise. Our room 101 in annex...

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. A top floor room right on the corner so absolutely stunning views across the lake. Fantastic! The room was clean and bright. No kettle, which is common abroad but always a disappointment. To offset this there was a minibar so we had somewhere cold to put our drinks. Prices were reasonable if you wanted to drink theirs too. Bathroom was a little dated but everything worked, the size was ok (just a shower though, not a bath) and nothing to complain about. Nice flat screen tv in the room. Rubbish programmes of course, but who goes away to watch the TV? Lovely balcony, big enough for a couple of chairs and a table, and it was the width of the room with sliding glass doors which also made the most of the views. The traffic could be heard but I didn't find it at all intrusive, and I live on a quiet road at home. The only time it was noisy was when the bar over the road had something on, on the Friday night til midnight-ish. They were quiet again on the Saturday night. We went in May so maybe it gets noisier in high season. This is a a quiet resort so not the place to go if you are looking for nightlife! The road was directly outside the hotel but there was a crossing and a lovely path alongside the lake, separated from the road, which was delightful for evening strolls. If you turn left from the hotel along this lakeside path, the next resort is only about 15 mins walk away, with some nice looking restaurants. If you turn right you can get a bus to Malcesice (but buses stop at 7pm, and taxis are expensive!!!). Again, if you want nightlife this is probably not the place for you. The hotel has a nice pool and lots of loungers around it and a sun terrace. Sadly, we did not get much sun on our holiday but we did on one day and even went into the pool for a swim (very cold, they don't hear it!). The hotel was absolutely lovely, as were the staff. Good range of food and plenty of it for both breakfast and dinner. Buffet style eating, which I prefer, although waiting staff served drinks at the table - and cleared the tables very promptly. I would defy anyone to go hungry here, you were positively encouraged to go and get second helpings. I love Italian food anyway, and we were not disappointed. They even had vegetarian options, which is not always the case in other countries. Wifi was a bit flaky for the first couple of days because they had a big storm on the first night - and it costs £5pp per week for wifi - I do think it should be freely available in this day and age. There was nearly always free wifi when we were out and about. We were travelling with Newmarket, so were visiting other places most days. All in all a marvellous holiday (can't think what 'opinionated244' was expecting. I thought the hotel was of a high standard).

Room Tip: Room 309, top floor. Breathtaking views!

It was so below standard expected it was impossible to believe. There is a very very busy road outside the rooms overlooking the lake, so unless you have a hammer to knock yourself out with it is impossible to sleep, there is absolutely nothing to do anywhere nearby unless you can hang around for an endless time for a bus!, the food, whilst having a 'great selection' was so inedible i could not feed my animal with it, 2 of the staff were so rude I could not believe they were Italian, we love Italians, but not these 2, the room was clean, a bonus, the beds are so low it was almost a futon, sheets not changed all week, balcony very small, top floor room despite asking to be lower down etc., etc, would definitely not recommend.

Room Tip: Be prepared to go to a restaurant to get good food. The lake view rooms are overlooking the main ro...

Dear Mr./Mrs.
I don't know your name and I cannot check which room you have had. The hotel is situated on the main road - Gardesana - the rooms with frontal lake view are directly on the road. So sorry if you aspected one small hotel in a quite corner, maybe in the center of the town.
Our Hotel is in Assenza di Brenzone, very small village, but in all the description you can find information about this.
Just today we received the certificate excellence tripadvisor 2014. So sorry that you didn't enjoy your Holiday and so sorry that you consider our food not good.

Just returned from an eight day trip to Lake Garda with Newmarket Holidays staying at The Drago. Lovely clean hotel, good choice of food at breakfast and dinner, friendly helpful staff and a great base for sightseeing. The views of the Lake are stunning. Would recommend.

Room Tip: We had a room at the front on the first floor (106) with a see view. I am convinced the room was de...

I stayed at this hotel with my husband for a short break and it was wonderful. We had a lake view and it was stunning. We went b&b which was a continental breakfast, but there was plenty to choose from. The hotel was very clean and the maids came in everyday. The staff are brilliant. They are very helpful and friendly too. I could not fault this hotel at all. The 3* rating seems a little harsh, I would say it's more like a 4*. I would definitely stay here again.

Spent a very good week at the Drago Hotel,Staff were always helpful and would definitely recommend to others wishing to explore around Lake Garda. Traveled with Newmarket Holidays and the staff worked round the trips as regarding breakfast and evening meal. Beautiful views of the mountains and the lakes . Everything was very clean, Food excellent:- good variety and well presented. Grateful thanks to all concerned . The temperature of the pool was invigorating and restored aching muscles after a hard days site seeing!!! Shirley and Honor .

We looked at so many hotels in the Lake Garda and surrounding areas and were worried we had not booked the best hotel. Well we certainly needn't have worried. The hotel was beautiful. The hotel is kept spotless the staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was lovely and a really good menu each day. Our son who is a picky eater ate well every morning and evening !! The pool and surrounding area and gardens were spotless. The view from our hotel was absolutely breathtaking. When we arrived on the coach (booked with Newmarket Travel who were excellent) two couples geting off with us for the Drago said they had been there before which was a good sign and we realised why. We would definitely go back again. I have not stopped telling our family and friends about the Drago. Would definitely recommend it and really, really hope to go back there again for another fantastic holiday.
