This is my sort of hotel. I can’t bear the pretentious and flash hotels anymore.
The rooms were immaculately clean; the bathroom was excellent with a large shower head to wallow in.
When you got to the restaurant / bar it was comfort all the way. This is the place I would love to be stuck in the middle of winter, in a snow storm. A real “ brides head revisited” or “alo alo” feeling with many, many pictures and photographs, plants, candles and artefacts of all kinds.

The food was really excellent, with a delicious sorbet in between the starter and main course. The staff were all friendly and courteous and we really enjoyed our stay here.
The view from the window was of rolling hills and lovely countryside.

The only one small micro criticism was the bedroom was a bit small.
We will definitely be back!!

We were just back for our third stay at the Trooper Inn and were not let down. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend eating dinner at the pub. The food was outstanding and is worth a trip on its own merit. Breakfast was also top notch. Looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have some noise from the road but good views.

The staff and the setting make The Trooper Inn. All staff were friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived. We'd asked in advance to store our bikes somewhere safe and were offered their garage, they opened it up when we got there and made arrangements for us to get them back out very early on our day of departure. The room we stayed in (Oakshot) was great, bed was comfy, nice and clean, bathroom was ample (although far too warm). Free wifi, always a bonus! The breakfast was lovely and plenty of choice. The bar was cosy and good for a few drinks after a day exploring the area, we didn't get chance to eat in there though - more's the pity as the food looked great! Set in beautiful, peaceful surroundings, if we were ever in the area again we wouldn't hesitate to stay at The Trooper Inn again.

Just stayed one night here to get away from things and do some walking. Very pleasant atmosphere and staff. Room (Selbourne) a bit on the small side but very clean, comfortable bed, wonderful view, big bath and very powerful shower.
Evening meal was very good with locally sourced produce - fairly expensive but with good quality service and a fair choice. Very filling full English breakfast included in the price.

Would recommend for a short stay - probably a longer one if some of the other rooms are bigger.

Room Tip: Good website with clear details on all rooms.

My wife and i spent one night at The Trooper on a golf trip. I can't come up with one negative about the stay other than the room was a bit small but that was a small price to pay for the rest of the package. From the time we arrived the service was excellent. The room itself was comfortable, very nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. Whilst the bedroom was a bit small the bathroom was large. Dinner was fantastic in a bar area that had great atmosphere and the food excellent. To finish off our stay, our breakfast was first class. Obviously we were pleased with our stay and will definitely be visiting again.

We ate here for breakfast and the food was terrible in spite of the expensive price- cheap sausages and bacon and tesco value style bread for toast. The marmalade was almost black and crystallised with sugar- the jar was half empty and must have been opened for months. The "fresh fruit" was a small bowl of tinned prunes and a bowl containing two oranges and a shrivelled apple!

Service was slow. The experience is not to be repeated!!

I'll start by saying this is my boyriend's and my favourite restaurant in the area. We have only visited to dine, but I couldn't find a restaurant listing for it, so have put it under the 'hotel'. The food is superb, and we have had some of the best meals we have ever eaten here. We visited last week, and, as usual, it did not disappoint. Both of our meals were delicious, and my boyfriend's pork was outstanding. All their meat is local, everything is fresh and there is precise attention to detail. Desserts are handmade locally and it really shows. Service is friendly and they are very happy to help you choose suitable wines and discuss ingredients. We can see why it has food awards. They are also quite attentive and leave just the right amount of time between courses.

It is fairly pricey by ub standards - we paid £65 for a shared starter, mains, desserts and a couple of drinks. Even though it's a bit more expensive than a run of the mill pub meal it is worth every penny - the quality speaks for itself. To top it off, it's in a beautiful location surrounded by countryside. Try it and you won't regret it.
