“Mystical stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 December 2013

When we arrived it was late afternoon in November 2013 - the mist was rolling in over Heuchin. What a lovely surprise as we drove up the drive way with beautiful trees to the warming and majestic Maison de Plumes. We knocked at the door to be greeted by Richard the owner - no photos can do the hotel justice - it is unique and full of character the spiral staircase amazing as were the rooms. I stayed in the Flamingo room - which was warm and welcoming with a view over the countryside. We enjoyed pre dinner drinks with Richard and Vanessa and an outstanding dinner prepared by Richard - what a fabulous nights stay. Breakfast - what can we say. We were very reluctant to leave after our nights stay. Thank you we arrived as guests and left as friends. Will certainly plan another visit - next time for a week of indulgence.

I always read reviews before choosing a hotel, if you are reading this before making the decision to book at MDP then i hope it helps. In all honesty we have never stayed in such a wonderful hotel and that is after travelling around alot! Richard and Vanessa have created a beautiful, classy and sumptuous oasis away from the tourism of Calais. It really isn't that far to drive and is a perfect stop off on your way to or back from holiday. If a meal is being served that night in the hotel then go for it as dining with the other guests was a brilliant experience. There are also so many small personal touches that make this hotel ideal, the water in the bedrooms, the handmade bath oils and shower gels (which you can also buy), the wine on arrival, the aperitifs with the hosts, the lovely homemade breakfast, the premium beds and the most absolutely stunning décor- Vanessa has an incredible eye for design.
We stayed in the Swan suite and the bath with its mood lighting is amazing but all of the rooms are fabulous, it makes you want to go back time and time again so you can try them all.
If this isn't testament enough we have changed all of our honeymoon plans so that we are stopping off back at Maison de Plumes as we can't think of anywhere else we would rather stay.

T& R x

Room Tip: They all look incedible.

We have stayed at Maison de Plumes a number of times, and have always had a fantastic time. It is about an hour from Calais and the perfect place to go for a weekend. We highly recommend both breakfast and dinner and each of the rooms is very comfortable - we have stayed in the Parakeet, Ostrich and Flamingo. Richard and Vanessa always make us feel welcome.

Room Tip: All are good!

This is more of a guest house than hotel, but one would be forgiven for mistaking it for a 5 star boutique hotel. All be it off the beaten track it is very easy to find and provides access to all surrounding major cities and sights. From first arrival the personal touch is obvious. You are met by Richard & Vanessa who welcome you warmly with a nice glass of wine and invites you to share their home. The décor is sublime and instantly relaxing. We stayed in the Peacock room which had an extremely comfortable bed and we had the best nights sleep in a long time. We were invited to have dinner along with the other guests, which proved to be a fantastic experience. You can not avoid the relaxed ambience that comes with the surroundings, good food quality wine fellow guests and of course the generous hosts. Richard & Vanessa have surpassed are expectations and we will certainly be returning soon. Many thanks for a wonderful stay. x Mark & Rachel

We stayed at Maison de Plumes for our first night in France during our summer holiday and couldn't have hoped for a better start to the trip. After a long day's drive we were warmly welcomed with a glass of wine on the terrace and a long chat with the wonderful hosts, Richard and Vanessa. They renovated this stunning manoir themselves - a labour of love documented in a lovely photo book in the lounge - with Vanessa taking charge of the immaculately-chosen deco interior. We stayed in the Parokeet room with its gorgeous free-standing bath and the most comfortable bed either of us have ever slept in. Although dinner was not served at the house that night, we had an excellent meal at a nearby restaurant, followed by a nightcap chatting with some of the other guests who were regulars at the hotel. As it is so close to Calais there is little reason not to be - we felt so utterly relaxed during our whole short stay that this has to be one of the best places you can get to for a long weekend (or even just a normal weekend!) from the UK. Richard's breakfast (that incredible scrambled egg!) was just perfect and we got back in the car for a long day's driving feeling absolutely refreshed. We will certainly be back.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Parokeet room and it was excellent, but really all of the rooms look excellent so I...

This is a guest house of high standing and highly recommended. Breakfast is ample. There is a good welcome from the owners . One needs to check whether dinner is available when you wish to stay as it is only served on certain nights, otherwise one has to go to a restaurant in the area. This is understandable but it means that extra glass of wine has to be refused for the drive back!
It is within an hour's drive from Calais.

Earlier this week we had the pleasure of staying at Maison de Plumes. Over the years, we have stayed in many hotels, inns and other places in Pas de Calais (which is a very underrated region of France). We have always enjoyed the stays but Maison de Plumes was a serendipitous discovery.

We stayed in the Ostrich room which was comfortable and had everything we needed for a very pleasant stay. A nice touch which I always appreciate was that bottled water is provided in the room. We were lucky to be able to stay on an evening when a meal was available. This was really delicious. The cooking was of the highest quality and we enjoyed it immensely. The breakfast the following morning was equally good, especially the wonderful scrambled eggs.

Richard and Vanessa are perfect hosts. They have the knack of making you feel perfectly at home - in fact, the experience is more like staying with friends.

In all honesty, I cannot think of a single aspect that could be faulted. It really was the perfect stay.
