“Amazing place to go...IGNORE BAD REVIEWS”
Reviewed 16 January 2013

This place is amazing. We arrived in the afternoon, we were greeted straight away by Jimmy, then checked in by soula to our very beautiful and spacious rooms on the ground floor. we soon got to know the fantastic family who go out of their way to make you happy and enjoy your holiday. The pool area is fantastic, never had any problems getting a sunbed and there was 5 of us. The bar run by Katarina and George was fab service, both katerina and george also make you feel very welcome...and they remember all the names of their guests which is impressive, they greet you every morning. The food was delicious, not a huge choice to choose from but lovely food.
It is about a 10 minute walk to the beach and this is where the restaurants bar are etc, some lovely restaurants, you can get a horse taxi back if you dont feel like walking back.
We didnt really go anywhere else apart from the complex and down to the beach but after talking to someone who had been coming back year after year, you can venture into alykanas and they have some nice bars and restuarants.
The beach is amazing, the people selling stuff to you can get annoying but they dont hassle you if you say no. If you sit under the blue umbrellas you get beach service and he is hilarious, he wears motif t-shirts and changes them throughout the day.
Prices at he apartments are reasonable, they have a mini mart literally 5 steps away from the pool with a few things in.
I read bad reviews from people saying that there are cockrells and ants...WELL YES...you get this in hot countries, the cockrells never bothered me or my family at all, you hardly notice them after a day or so, and we found it amusing when the crowed at unusual times....as for ants, I saw 1..so those people are being picky, this is the best greek holiday I have been on with my family and will be returning.
we love it there......Joe, Natalie and the sisters :) xxx

Read lots of reviews and decided to stay here for our Honeymoon, absolutely lovely place and people, the only reason i have given it 4 stars is that there are a couple of things not quite right. One was the fact that the beds in the room where we stayed were not very comfortable. The rooms were lovely apart from that, a little hob, fridge, kettle and toaster. The other niggle was that the breakfast (as we had booked for B&B) were to say the least not very good. The bacon when my husband got it was a little tiny piece and overcooked but the toast was either rock hard or just disintegrated into dust (you are better paying for self-catering). We did have a burger when we first arrived and that was nice. It was a 10 min walk downhill to get to the beach and the town, if you wanted a lift back you could get a horse taxi for 10 euros which was also well worth it. The town was a small place and was not noisy nor full of young adults so a great place to take young children. The sea is very shallow for a long way out so also good for children. There are plenty of places to eat and very reasonable prices. The boat excursions are also very well priced and would recommend, you can book them in the town as there are plenty of places to do this. Overall a really nice place to visit and would go again but self catering and Jimmi (the owner) will do anything to help when i had a migraine he ran my husband up to the next village to go to the pharmacy to get me some tablets... when you arrive go straight to the bar area near the pool as that is where you will be able to check-in as everyone does try to go to the part that looks like the reception, but isnt. (just saves you from walking around, dragging your case everywhere)..

my friends and i stayed here for about 2 weeks(in 2008) and we had a great holiday. The location is excellent, with mountain views, and the atmosphere generated by the small buildings is also delightful.
The offer we bought had only the breakfast,it was served on the small terrace, near the pool area.
The Sellini rooms were spacious and more modern than Soulas suites, but for a youth group that doesn't matter. The island is divided into several areas: for exemple Alykes is great for families, couples, everything beeing very romantic and calm. Laganas is lively, which is specifiic for young people.
I dearly recommend this hotel and hope the pictures will help in making the best choice.

Enjoy your holiday!

i don`t want to do a review, it`s my secret, because everyone will come, but thats not fair to Jimmy and all the family, they put so much effort in making your stay there just great, the personal touch is always there, help and advice to hand, we arrived mid september, all is quiet, how we like it and Jimmy and the family made us feel very wecome, we became friends with people who go there time and time again, and i can`t blame them, not saying any more, go there, hear the cock crow, the dogs bark, this is greek culture at it`s best, will be going back next year, see you there...oooops, no, don`t go, it`s our secret....!!

We had an end of season break at the Alykes Garden Village, and it was a superb holiday, and amazing value for money. The studio apartment and balcony were very spacious and adequately equipped - even a mosquito net over the bed, which is unusual in Europe. A couple of cats came to visit our ground floor corner studio, but we enjoyed having them and gave them little titbits and milk. We hired a car for the week, and enjoyed seeing the northern part of the island : St Nicolas is a lovely place to spend the day. The round the island boat trip is also worth doing - lots of stops for swimming in fabulous clear blue water. The sun shone for 7 days and the temperature was around 30 deg. C. You can't really ask for any more.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked lawns and olive trees, and was very calm

You can only give this place 5 it is not an option to mark it down at all & saw recently the 1 that someone gave it is hard to believe they were at the same place as we were ? anyway, putting that to the side and not wanting to dilute my praise for this lovely little place.

Situated 800M from the beach, on a quiet road, with fabulous views of the mountains it was perfect. The perfect walk, morning and night to shed those extra pounds the Tzatsiki & Moussaka may have added !

Yes the many cockerals & doggies living near by did not seem to understand night and day but so what, it did not disturb me or cause us any sleepless nights.

The family are as described, lovely, nothing too much trouble. Think we were very low maintenance tho as we never made it to the bar at night, always too tired and bed by 10 ish & ate local melon and meats in our room for breakfast.

Rooms large, airy & with balcony overlooking the lovely mountains and houses and the pool and other rooms and builidings. Clean & tidy, minimal but adequate.

Only thing I would change would be up grading with some new sheets and pillow cases, a bit thin and not too bright looking & some new and fluffier towels. Just a bit tired the linen.

Great place to stay for relaxing, inexpensive 10 night trip, great value for money, great hospitality & thank you Alykes Garden Family for hosting a lovely place for us to have a well earned break from work.

Room Tip: 3 rd floor looking at mountains is great view

Stayed at the Alykes Garden for two weeks mid August. Before we even arrived in the country Jimmy had been very helpful sorting out taxis for us. When we arrived at the airport the taxis were waiting and then Jimmy just stopped by on his way back from shopping to check all was OK. What treatment! You would never get that in a big Thompson Holiday resort. In fact all the staff were friendly and so helpful, making you feel as if nothing was too much trouble. Jimmy sorted out travel to the water park, Quad bike and boat hire and return taxis to the airport.
Our two bed apartment was very clean and a good size. Yes we had to pay extra for the air con and safe, but that is pretty standard. My only comment re the air con (as I told Jimmy) was that because it was positioned in the kitchen / hall, the only way you could really feel the effect at night was to sleep with the bedroom doors open. Fine for us as a family but may not suit if you are travelling with another couple! The room was cleaned every day and fresh bed linen and towel about every three days. Having read previous reviews I had packed my ear plugs in case of noisy dogs and chickens, but can honestly say I never heard them. We did have a room overlooking the pool so maybe that helped.
The town of Alykes was just lovely. Not too busy, but with plenty of bars and restaurants to last two weeks. In fact we never had a bad meal. The beach was lovely, (despite the nibbling fish) and very reasonable at 5 Euros for two sunbeds and an umbrella. And drinks service if you wanted it.
We hired a couple of self drive day launches and headed off up the coast to visit the blue caves. Personally I found them a little disappointing, but the other bays with caves and the little beach we stopped at for our picnic lunch (made for us by Chris) were fabulous. I would definitely recommend this rather than one of the big organised trips.
We also hired Quad bikes. Just for a day and if I went back I would have them for longer because they were so much fun, although I would suggest getting the slightly more powerful ones, as with two of us on it, sometimes I didn't think we would make it up the hills!!
As yo can probably tell, we really enjoyed our holiday and would definitely go back.
Thank you Jimmy, Soula and Chris for a fabulous time.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool are probably quieter
