We recently (August 2014) stayed at this beautiful family run hotel and can honestly say we will definitely return! Peaceful location with absolutely stunning views of the Ionian Sea and the mountains.
The pebbled beach in front of the hotel is literally 3 steps down and gets the sun till mid afternoon and we always managed to get a lounger and parasol. To the left of the jetty, which is in front of the hotel, is a gorgeous sand beach which even in peak season wasn't too busy apart from at the weekend when a lot of local Greek people come down. The water is shallow for quite a distance which makes it safe for little ones. You will not believe the colours of the sea, so many different shades, stunning!
At breakfast there was a good variety of fresh fruit, yoghurt, honey, cereals, greek cake, white and brown bread, juice, coffee and tea daily with alternating days of pancakes, scrambled eggs, poached eggs, beans and sausages to name a few!
We would highly recommend dining in the restaurant also. They offer a range of light snacks and main meals. The food is of a very high standard and very tasty as well as being very good value. The waiting staff are very polite and cannot do enough for you.
Our room was a side sea view room on the third floor, initially we would have preferred a front sea view but as the hotel faces North you don't get the sun on your balcony which we did in the side room in the afternoon.
The room was very clean with comfortable beds and was very spacious, a bit limited on wardrobe space but that's down to me packing too much! The bathroom again was a generous size with a shower over the bath which was heaven! Obviously you cannot flush toilet paper down, its Greece! The room was cleaned daily with clean towels and bedding every couple of days.
Alykes is a lovely quiet village with lots of quiet bars, shops and restaurants. It is very flat so good for people with mobility issues or pushchairs.
Alkynes is the next resort down, it is livelier than Alykes, it is a short walk or alternatively you can hire a horse and carriage to take you for about 10 euros. This is where you will find the water sports too.
The family who own and run the hotel are very welcoming and friendly, they simply cannot do enough to ensure the needs of their guests are met and you can tell how passionate they are about their business.
If you are after a quiet, relaxing holiday on the beach then I would highly recommend the Astoria, we fell in love with the hotel and resort and cannot wait to return!
Thank you so much, one of the best holidays we've had!

We arrived at the Astoria on the 25th June which we then stayed until the 5th july. We were made to feel very welcome by the family that run the bisiness, nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was lovely and my daughteris a fussy eater and they accomidated her with what ever she liked. The rooms we stayed in were clean. ed daily but the decor was just a little dated.we had a sea view it was fantastic getting up in the morning and looking out onto the view .we've been going to alykes now over 25 years its so relaxing and we never want to come back home as a family we will be returning back to the as

Room Tip: We had room 303 and 305 they had sea view

This holiday was one of the best we have had. Right from the start the Hotel was welcoming. I have not been to many in the World where staff AND clients are on 1st name terms. The food was incredible value for money, with a great choice from the menu, or the daily specials.Breakfast was good, with the best Greek Yogurt ever. From Hotel to beach in under 2 minutes worked for us. Fabulous views too. The rooms were clean and spacious. If you use the little beach next to the hotel, the snack bar owner does not charge for sunbeds if you buy a drink from him, so great value. Some people have complained it was a quiet town...that's why we chose it. Our 10 days was simply not long enough, and the amount of repeat visitors this hotel gets proves they are doing SOMETHING right. We'll be back!

Room Tip: Try to get a sea view, and you can get a through draught so air con not needed

Having spent many years visiting Greece this was our first trip to Zakynthos. The Astoria Hotel was our choice because of its location on the beach. We have just had one of the best holidays we have had for a long time. The hotel was very comfortable, the owners and staff very helpful and friendly and we were made to feel very welcome by the numerous regulars who had been going there for many years. The food was some of the best we have eaten in Greece at a very reasonable price. The position was perfect and we were sorry when our short week came to an end. Thank you Maria, Rena, Harry and all the rest of the staff - We'll be back!

Just returned from the Astoria Hotel in Alykes. A very mixed review on this one as there were some good and bad points, The Hotel itself although quite comfortable was very tired and dated. It appears to be run by a family and there were several members of the family on duty most of the time. The food was very uninspiring even though there was a different choice every day on some courses. Whatever meat was served was very generous and well cooked but vegetables seemed to be in scarce supply as we saw very little of them. The breakfast was the worst as there was a very poor choice and usually consisted of rubbery pancakes, undercooked boiled eggs or soggy French toast.
The dining area was superb as it overlooked the beach and the sea, amazing views especially when there was a beautiful sunset. Made up for the food to some extent.
I have never been to such a quiet resort, it was like a ghost town especially during the day.
We asked about bars with live music but it seems that the local council doesn't allow this but having spoken to a few people I think it is more likely that some of the Hotels have raised this as a potential issue and have put a stop to it.
Alykes is a lovely little Town but there is very little to do there. We managed a boat trip to see the Turtles, a visit to Zakynthos ( a joke due to incorrect information from the Reception staff at the Hotel), a local train ride to visit a museum and Taverna, and not forgetting the superb Horse Riding with Lucky Luke. He is a great guy and really loves his horses which made for a great afternoon for two very inexperienced ladies.
We found a cocktail bar close to our Hotel, the Virago where the hosts, Vicky and Spiros created a great atmosphere with their fun personalities, and good range of drinks and cocktails.

There wasn't much of a beach outside the Hotel and there was a charge even to residents of 5 Euros a day, but for children it was very safe as the water wasn't very deep for quite a long way out, and one of the clearest and cleanest looking seas that I have seen.

Room Tip: We had room 403 which was on the third floor, (two lifts). It was very adequate and comfortable alth...

Having just returned from the Astoria today, will give my own personal view, good and not so good. First the negatives out of the way. The breakfast was uninspiring every day. The evening meals arrived 4 out of seven days cold or luke warm. The choice of 3 desserts each night were, cold rice pudding, cold jelly (sometimes a different colour) and one other different cold choice. from the set evening menu. One of the waitresses dropped some crockery and it smashed. we were then all treated to a very embarrassing yelling outrage from the Manager John and the elder mother, it lasted quite some time and left a very nasty atmosphere for everyone who were trying to eat breakfast. Not very professional. We were left standing for an hour in mega hot temperatures outside the hotel waiting for a bus that would never come, because the reception staff forgot it was Saturday and the times change. There was only a very small patch of beach right outside the hotel where they charged 5 euros a day for the umbrella's and sunbeds. Air con is extra. On the positive side the view from the dining area out to the sea, was to die for and I miss it and would never tire of seeing it each day truly AMAZING. If you have children the beach itself was very safe and it was very shallow, about a foot deep for quite a long way out and very clear waters, The staff, all so friendly and nothing ever too much trouble. The room, was clean and comfortable albeit it little dated. Towels changed whenever we put them in the bath. If you turned left on the beach side on the hotel head towards the last hotel on the left called the Paradise Pool bar which was FREE use of sunbeds and umbrella's and their swimming pool all day. Go out of the hotel and turn right and head towards the lovely cocktail bar called Virago, where lovely Vicky and Spiros served excellent cocktails with great music and atmosphere. Also out the front of the hotel opposite to the left, there is pony and horse riding advertised. we did the horse riding lead by a great guy called Andreas who was so patient and considerate and passionate about his animals. Great pony rides for little one too. Then there is the little train rides good value and the boat trips to the caves and the turtles. but the shipwreck seemed more of a con, just beware. Apart from that, we had a great time and finally the mosquitos are alive and well and living off the tourists, go prepared, they are out all day and night. hope this was helpful. if you have any questions, please ask. All of this is just my opinion.

Room Tip: third floor sea view, excellent
