“If it wasn't for the annex”
Reviewed 24 May 2008

We arrived after trouble free travel to find that we had been allocated rooms in the annex that was at the other side of a field and a quite long walk to and from the main building. As my brother is disabled this meant that he was not going to be able to walk to and from with any ease if at all. We told the owner's son who seemed not to care and who only wanted to get the luggage into the rooms. Eventually we were promised by Nikos that we would be able to move on the Sunday (this was Thursday). We accepted this as there seemed no option and settled in to what we came to know as 'the barn' for a few days - not too bad with the extra blankets to block the draughts!. Sunday came,we moved - discovered that the rooms in the main building were not only more convenient but better furnished and not so draughty as well (the weather wasn't brilliant). The room was cleaned most days and beds changed 3 times in the fortnight but we had to ask for clean towels though some told us that they'd had them every day!
Nikos Studios is set in what can only be described as an out of the way, fairly agricultural, area. Good if you like pretty scenery not good if the sound of farm machinery annoys you! Once we ironed out the problems we liked it. It cost 6 euros for a taxi to or from the resort centre (if you can get hold of one) but we found that once the locals found that one of our party had mobility problems they were offering lifts all the time. Nikos is a great bloke and his dad's lovely even if he doesn't speak English very well. All really friendly and helpful. Not really suitable for people with mobility problems unless you intend to hire a car for the length of your stay. We found it much easier once we did.

  • Liked — Nothing really
  • Disliked — Too far from resort centre, shower room not easy to use and very messy, pool too deep for non swimmers.

What a gorgeous resort!! Zante is beautiful and we can't wait to go back.
We stayed at the Nikos Studios in Alykes and we had a great time. There are pros and cons to this place, but nothing really bad at all.
The apartments are on the small side, with a double and a single bed, very small kitchen, small (though quite big for Greece) bathroom. There's not much room but we only slept there! The balcony is nice and big with enough room for your lilos and a table and chairs. We were on the ground floor in the main building, perfect! However there is another building a few minutes walk away where some people are located and not happy as it's not advertised in the brochure (see photo). The building is clean, the pool is fairly big, but very deep even the shallow end. The food is plentiful and cheap and loads of choice. The Greek night is well worth 10 euros, the food really is fabulous, though the owners kids do the traditional entetainment, so this saves him some cash, but they were very good. The owners elderly parents work there, and some people think they are rude. They are NOT, they just don't speak much English, but bless them, they will help you with anything they can if you ask. The studios are a 5 minute walk from the beach, 10 mins into centre of Alykes. The beach is clean - contrary to other reports i have read. The water is as warm near the shore as any Carribbean beach i have been to and as clear too. The town is not full of 18-30's and is perfect for a relaxing holiday. Plenty of bars (one stays open as a nightclub) and restaurants, though don't reccomend the Chinese/Indian, frozen, processed rubbish and the most expensive (though still not expensive) meal we had. Basically this resort is best for people who have done their share of partying til all hours, and are ready to chill out on holiday. I am 30, my boyfriend is 36, and we are booking for next year too. Hire a jeep and get out and about, the whole island is gorgeous. By the way, we were there in June and it wasn't below 40 degrees any day. You'll need the aircon!!
