We arrived in Newquay soaking wet, tired after a long walk, and could not find this B&B. On calling the owner to ask for directions, she immediately offered to collect us, which was most kind. She also dried our wet clothes, again very helpful as we had another long walk the next day. The room and bed were large, and very clean. A good choice was offered for breakfast, even kippers or smoked haddock, which is unusual in B&B's. They had a good range of books to browse too - we even learned a bit about Dylan Thomas who used to holiday nearby.
The only downside of this place is that it is a bit far from the town, but this is no problem for those travelling by car.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this B&B. The owner was so friendly! The bedroom was excellent, with a king size double bed. The ensuite bathroom was in excellent condition. There was only a hand held shower but that wasn't a problem for us. The other bathroom is available should you want a fixed shower anyway.
Breakfast was excellent, with cereals plus a wide range of cooked alternatives including full English. You choose and mark a sheet each evening for the following morning. Our only query was the fact that it wasn't served until 9am, which is a bit later than I would have liked, but I went for a walk beforehand each morning instead.
Our dog was fully welcomed and had a sausage each morning! There are a dog and a cat resident, but for us this was a bonus!
The only slight down side was the distance from the harbour area, but we walked it each day and it was easily doable for us. No doubt made us fitter! There was a bus stop nearby but I don't think the buses were very frequent. There is a holiday park on the opposite side of the road but that wasn't a problem.
New Quay is a lovely place and it was wonderful to stand on the jetty and watch the dolphins in the harbour. A rare luxury. And it was also interesting to see the places linked to Dylan Thomas.

We were eager to walk the Dylan Thomas trail, but was finding it difficult to find somewhere that took dogs in too. Then we came across Summat Else and so we booked in for one evening..This place was great...our room was spacious and spotlessly clean and we were made to feel very welcome. It was weird taking our puppy down for breakfast though as it was just like being in someone else's home....
The breakfast was lovely and nothing is too much trouble.
Angela is a very lovely lady and we highly recommend Summat Else to anyone with a dog.
*** Oh and by the way we did the trail in 3 hours...not bad for amateurs !!!

Hi Nikki Thanks for your review - always good to receive an appreciative review. I am glad you did the Dylan Thomas trail and hope that it might inspire you to watch the programmes on his life and works. It was also interesting that we are both involved with the running of youth clubs and agree that there is a place for them in the development of our young people. Come back anytime you will be very welcome.

Our visit was a spur of the moment decision. We wanted to visit our daughter who was volunteering with Cardigan Bay dolphin watch. We needed somewhere that was dog friendly. Angela was lovely. We were shown to a lovely room with plenty of room for the three of us. It was very comfortable. Breakfast was a delight and even Roxie was given her own sausage, which made her a very happy dog. After eating we spent a pleasant hour chatting to Angela who is a very interesting and caring person with a lot of local knowledge.

Thank you so much for your kind review. It was so lovely to talk about the place were I live and be proud of its beauty and history. As for Roxie she is always welcome to stay again - my canine guests can't write a review but they do love their sausage for breakfast.

Booked a last minute stay in the summat else guest house after being recommended by another guest house that no longer operates. Upon arrival we were greeted by Angela who showed us to our room, a beautiful room with a lovely view overlooking the sea. Angela herself is an absolute star, very very welcoming and friendly, always happy to help and a master when it comes to breakfast (I think I could eat her breakfasts every single day) with plenty of selection too. We were about a 10 minute walk from New Quay town itself, and could come and go as we pleased (always enjoyed a bit of banter with Angela before we went anywhere mind you)

If your looking to get away for a quiet few days New Quay is a great seaside town, but I would 100% recommend staying at the summat else guest house as we had a wonderful time.

Angela is a bright witty engaging true Thespian, authoress of the Dylan Thomas guide to Newquay and provides a lovely choice of breakfast that can include local seafood including laverbread. Lots of local advice and knowledge and a pertinent library is on offer. Five stars would have been there but my misses has a thing about cats, and there is a lovely ginger one...so I would have given six stars just for the laugh it gave me as it came to the room to give us the once over and take residence. Lots of choice of drinks in the room with plenty of fresh!!! milk ( not the peel off plasticised rubbish) and goodies. Bathroom was spotless with bath as well as a shower available.
Parking off street is available and walking into town is 10minutes and path to the beaches to the north and parts of the Dylan Thomas Trail adjacent. Great value not only of the monetary type!

Many thanks for your full and thoughtful review. I apologise for Charlotte's intrusion but whereas Dogs live with their owners, owners live with their cats, but if someone is wary of cats we do try and keep Charlotte away. Just to clarify - I cant lay claim to being the author of the Dylan Thomas Trail but part of the Charity that initiated the trail in 2003, David N Thomas the author of books covering Dylan's life provided the text. I appreciate your use of the word Thespian - lets hope you will return for a repeat performance. Thank you.
