“Very stylish pub”
Reviewed 8 April 2014

My partner booked 4 nights at the Seagate for my birthday. We stayed in room 5 overlooking the estuary/car park which was very quiet. The décor was of a high standard and the huge bed very comfortable. The owners and staff were friendly but unfortunately completely absorbed by a kitchen refit. So much so that they didn't tell us there would be no evening meals for the first few days. Sylvesters fish and chips across the road is amazing! The breakfasts were ok, my partner especially liked the local sausages. For me the choice was limited as I'm vegetarian but the worse thing for me was there was no marmalade on the first morning, they had run out! The next morning there was no marmalade again and when I asked I was given one tiny pot between the two of us. They did however give my partner a refund of £50 as our room wasn't serviced one day which we thought was very reasonable. Hopefully they will be more focused on their customers once the refurbishments are complete.

Room Tip: Room 5 has good views and there is no pub noise.

Every so often you find a little gem...The Seagate is such a place. We had booked for a 3 day break and were given a lovely little suite overloking the estuary and the sea beyond. Neutral walls, oatmeal carpet...utilitarian furniture painted with a white sheen...spotless bathroom with quality finishes and Duck Island toiletries..it was hard to fault this so I won't. Downstairs there is a comfortable bar where the decor is seaside Farrow & Ball meets country house style furniture. Blocks of statement wallpaper carries through to the restaurant that overlooks the bar and courtyard and offers a good range of meals that were excellent value. Breakfast was very good...all the usual suspects cooked to order. What really sets this place apart is the quality of the management and staff. A couple called Phil & Jan are the owners and together with their Daughter and Son they have turned what was apparently a very dilapidated building into a thriving business by offering excellent levels of customer care and service...STAY THERE!

Room Tip: Suite 5 on the top floor was excellent had great views and was very quiet.

This boutique Hotel is very well situated, maintained to a high standard, produces excellent food, especially breakfast, has comfortable rooms, and the bar/ restaurant areas are tastefully decorated.
Bar food and snacks were available all through the day, which meant you didn't have to eat in the restaurant every time.
A new improved out door area was being constructed whilst we were there and this will be very popular with visitors and locals during those long hot summer days!!
For walkers/bikers/families, its a great place to visit with plenty to do and see. We will be back.

Room Tip: Room 4 for peace and quiet, bunk beds for kids, spacious bathroom.

This hotel is right on the seafront. Beautiful views. The food is excellent. The rooms are really lovely.
The Seagate staff are friendly but very efficient. Nothing is too much trouble. My special diet was easily catered for. Recommended

Had a lovely walk around the Burrows from Westward Ho! Called in for Lunch. Made very welcomed even in walking boots and with Poppy our labrador. The meal was excellent, enjoyed by all four of us. We would certainly recommend it.

We've just returned home from the Seagate and already booked our return trip. Phil, Jan and all the staff made us, and the dog most welcome. Nothing too much trouble, the food was excellent and the rooms very comfortable. Thank you, see you soon.

We had a 2 night break in this lovely hotel, the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. We had the suite which had a view over the estuary, the room was very clean with a nice décor, the bed was a king size so very comfy. Bathroom was also spacious with a big bath and great shower.
The food in the restaurant was fantastic with a good selection of fish and meat and daily specials and the breakfast was one of the best we`ve had with all local sourced ingredients (the bread was delicious, very moreish)
We will certainly recommend this hotel and would go back.
