My husband and I have just returned from a long weekend in Appledore North Devon, we have never been before and were pleasantly surprised. We stayed at The Seagate Hotel and had a warm welcome from Jan and Phil the proprietors, showed to our room which had the most fantastic view of the sea and across the water. The room was a lovely size with the largest bed, and a beautiful immaculately clean bathroom.

We had breakfast, which there was more than enough to choose from and had evening meals all three evenings, which we couldn't fault . The staff were amazing, so friendly and attentive, nothing was too much trouble.

The hotel had a nice relaxed family friendly feel, beautifully decorated with comfortable bar areas and restaurant. The weather was fabulous, so we made the most of sitting outside in the gorgeous patio area, and when it cooled off the heaters were popped on and the awning came out.

All in all 10 out of 10, and we look forward to returning again soon.

Room Tip: We stayed in room one, it was at the front of the hotel, was a beautiful room and fantastic view

We had two night at Seagate, in a front room. Although Seagate has been renovated the rooms are on the small side but still comfortable and very clean. Unfortunately the noise from the smokers outside was intrusive but at least 11pm is close down time. The breakfast was extremely large and of a very good quality. The evening menu though was good, but a little on the expensive side for what was being offered. Remember you are in North Devon and not many restaurants are open all day. The staff were very kind and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The position was very good and we would stay again, perhaps in a quieter room at the back.

Room Tip: Remember this is a Pub Hotel on the quay and therefore there is lots of activity going on outside.

Went for a Friday night out and wow! Newly refurbished, the place was light and airy yet cosy. There are several areas to sit and have a drink or eat and lovely outlook to the estuary. The staff are friendly but not in your face and the service was prompt. I had sea bass served on wilted spinach with sauté new potatoes and a white wine sauce. I must admit it was cooked to perfection and some of the best sea bass I have tasted. My husband had steak which he thoroughly enjoyed. I should imagine high season it will be very busy but still worth a visit. We will be back!

We stayed in Appledore a small seaside village in Devon. The Seagate is in a prime spot on the harbour front. We had lunch and evening meals in there over our weeks stay. The welcome is very friendly and muddy boots and dogs are welcome with muddy paws. The food is excellent standard. The bar / restaurant has been recently renovated to a high standard and very fitting as a sea side hotel. The only negative I have is that they only do food till about 2.30pm although they are open all day for drinks. I found this a bit dated with most pubs open all day for food. However, the food is all freshly cooked so maybe an all day menu would compromise the quality.
Great place to eat, drink and relax.

Appledore is a gem in North Devon and the Seagate is the perfect place to stay and explore this pretty fishing village. It has recently been renovated to a high standard with a seasidey nautical theme. The rooms are lovely and the food is good, especially the local seafood. Front rooms a bit noisy if you have the windows open! Best location in the village.

The Seagate has been completely modernised to create a superb open space inside, on different levels and 2 outside terraces. They have a great chef, the crab linguini is great , also the ravioli. Or just go for the fish and chips which you wont find bettered anywhere.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, most of whom are family and who obviously take great pride in what they have created there. A perfect blend of an old pub and a modern restaurant.

Room Tip: Sorry , I only went for dinner.
