“A wonderful B&B”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Old Parsonage House is a stunning building in itself, but the owners have made it into an incredibly pleasing B&B. It's hard to know what to mention first really, so I'll start at the beginning where we had to email to ask if it was okay to check in later than specified on the website, and received a very prompt reply which was very accommodating. We booked the last available room and I am so glad we did manage to book it.

The building is gorgeous, from the heavy wooden front door to the windows, some small circular windows and some - including the window in our room - huge and offering amazing views of the area.

We were shown to our room (Room 1) by the owner, Tim, and I did a double take as we walked in as the room was much bigger than I expected, beautifully decorated and as mentioned above the window was enormous. Just in front of the window was a table and two chairs, which we definitely enjoyed using during our stay.

I have to mention the bathroom as well; the shower is unlike anything I have seen at a B&B or even most hotels, there was a beauitful rainfall effect shower set in the ceiling and then a lower "normal" style showerhead in the same walk-in cubicle. It seemed like a real luxury, and a decent shower definitely makes a difference to my stay.

The breakfast was absolutely delightful with fresh fruit salads, yoghurt, home made plum compote which was delicious, and mini pastries and cereals as well as cooked breakfast on offer. Throughout the whole stay I noticed lots of nice finishing touches and also was pleased to see the food was locally sourced and all of the refreshments in the room were fair trade.

Old Parsonage House is a wonderful place to stay and we will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Room 1 was gorgeous with beautiful views from a large window. Shower was luxurious.

The Old Parsonage is a tastefully conserved noteworthy building in a remarkable old Somerset Village where superb bed and breakfast and a warm welcome awaits from hosts Tim and Jo.

We discovered it by a stroke of good luck having found accommodation fully booked at the local pub whilst searching for somewhere to stay in order to play a few rounds at the excellent nearby Orchardleigh Golf Club and were glad that we did. It was a wonderfully quiet location, the bedroom was spacious and comfortable and the full English breakfast a treat to set you up for the day.

In the evening there are two nearby hostelries to refresh the thirsty traveller within easy walk of the house. On the first night we tried The Foresters, reached by a pleasant footpath through the churchyard and through a couple of fields, the last bit being along the road. Excellent local beers, a friendly welcome and good food (an extensive menu from which I was more than pleased with the liver and bacon), although I am a little mystified as to why English pubs, revered and copied all over the World, have in the last few years opted for the bare minimalistic look, I’ll bet that a few years ago this was a good old cosy red-flocked wallpaper local. Nevertheless we enjoyed our evening chatting in there.

The following night was time then to try The Woolpack, a mere two minutes stroll from The Parsonage. A pleasing pub inside, although we found not with the same hale and hearty welcome, where the till came first as opposed to the customer – borne out by the fact that their house wine was about the most expensive on their list. Nevertheless the Butcombe bitter was beautifully kept and went down well. After a few of those I plumped for the beef and ale pie, described as a house favourite – tasty although more pastry than meat while potatoes were obviously harder to come by at that end of the Village!

I think the fact that after dinner our feet took us quite by chance to The Foresters for another pint demonstrated our preference, however please don’t let me sway you – try them both.

Overall staying at The Old Parsonage was a great couple of days; we were well looked after and the golf was splendid. Maybe we should make it a regular event on the sporting calendar….

This was our second visit to the Old Parsonage in Beckington and it has lost none of its appeal.
It really is an ideal place to stay for visiting the lovely city of Bath and various other attractive locations nearby. These include Stourhead (National Trust) - a superb property where we spent a complete day enjoying the lovely scenery. There are many other places to visit including Laycock , where there is a Museum of Photography and a wonderful Abbey, Wells Cathedral, Bradford on Avon etc.
The proprietors of the Old Parsonage were as welcoming as ever, nothing too much trouble and the large rooms are extremely comfortable with everything provided.
The breakfast is excellent ,beautifully presented and appetising.
The house has nice views of the countryside and the attractive village church. There is also a very large car park so parking is easy.
The two local inns nearby provide excellent meals and there is also a splendid café adjoining a farm shop nearby.
Visiting Bath is easy, either by Park and Ride or by using the local bus service, which is excellent.
Altogether a super place to stay in a lovely area.

We have just spent two nights at this excellent B&B. We were given a very warm welcome by the owners, who have done a wonderful job sympathetically restoring this beautiful old parsonage. The rooms are clean, peaceful, comfortable and generously sized with luxurious en-suites. Our bed was very comfortable and we slept well. Rooms 3, 4 and 5 are all at the top of the house so there are lots of stairs to negotiate but Tim helped us with our luggage. There are lovely rural views from the windows and car parking is good. The breakfasts were delicious. There are two pubs in the village providing food and we particularly enjoyed the 5-minute stroll across a meadow path to The Foresters where we were rewarded with an excellent meal at a reasonable price. We can certainly recommend The Old Parsonage as a great place to stay and it is very convenient for Longleat.

We have just returned from a two day stay at Old Parsonage House. What a beautiful house!
We have had a very relaxing time, and although we did not know the area, there is so much to keep you occupied in the locality. Unfortunately for us the weather was not kind, two wet drizzly days were disappionting. But our choice of Bed and Breakfast was wonderful. Spacious, comfortable, very clean room, a super king size bed that was a bliss. Tim and Jo are such friendly hosts making you feel at home and welcome from the beginning. The best eggs for breakfast were a delight! Hope to return later in the year and see the sunshine!
